This place was, well, interesting.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, a friend and I had to abandon previous lodging plans and find a hotel room for a week – fast. Motel 6 offered the best rate in the area with immediate booking. Ended up with a room on the ground floor near the on-site laundromat and ice/vending area, which was very convenient.
The Room: Sheets looked dingy, but mattress had a cover on it and appeared clean. One outlet about mid-chest high on the wall near one bedside table, but no USB ports or other convenient outlets for phone/device charging – super thankful for 6' phone charging cords. Wifi available for a price. Woodgrain vinyl floors (haven't seen that before in a motel). The vinyl floor in the bathroom was beginning to peel up at the seams. The bathroom door looked as if it had been kicked in previously and patched – the bottom half of the door didn't close fully when the top half did. The shower was decent – probably needed re-caulking in a place or two, but it was decently clean. Towel bars shedding chrome coating – not pretty. Nice bowl sink in the vanity area. Water-saving features on the sink and shower (which does not make for the greatest shower experience, but hey – it's keeping costs down).
The first two days, we had a cheap Styrofoam cooler that dripped some ice water onto the floor. We used the towels to mop up the water and they turned GRAY – the floor was filthy. Took the problem to the front desk, and the receptionist called in the manager. The receptionist said that she was responsible for the first floor's housekeeping, and that she would make sure the floor was properly mopped. Came back later that next day and the floor was properly cleaned.
The housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. With exception to days we asked for no housekeeping (to sleep late and get ready without interruptions), room was picked up and trash properly disposed of. If personal items were moved, it was done professionally – everything back where where it had been and nothing missing. Never saw a bug/rodent/creature the entire time there. Used the laundromat at the end of the week to wash laundry before leaving - $2 per wash/dry. One dryer gave you 45 minutes for $2, the other gave you 99 minutes (seriously!). Washers/dryers were clean and effective. Ice machine worked well – didn't use vending machines.
The clientele tended to mill about outside throughout the day and evening, but other than overhearing a couple arguing outside on the floor above, no major disruptions. Even noticed the sheriff's deputy riding through the parking lot a time or two.
The place is conveniently located with easy access off Highway 30 (Arsenal Road) by a side street (Turn onto Toronita St and then onto San Carlos St to enter motel from rear). To one side of the motel there is a restaurant/bar, and there is a small strip on the other side that contains a Qboda and a Starbucks. Across Toronita St from the Starbucks is Round the Clock Diner, and there are a gas station and an Enterprise across Arsenal Rd (Hwy 30).
In the end, it wasn't the best place I've ever stayed, but it wasn't horrendous. Would definitely recommend if you need a budget room in a hurry. Will probably make other plans if I visit in the...
Read moreWe went for a birthday get away for my husband with our Harleys in our truck and trailer. The front of the hotel is not terrible, older but not sketchy. We were assigned a room in the back on the second floor. As soon as we pulled around the back of the hotel we saw a bunch of undesirable people hanging out in the parking lot drinking at 6 pm, kids running around like they have been staying there for a long time and where we parked there were stairs to another parking lot that had abandoned broken into cars with the wheels missing and windows smashed in. There is also a sewer treatment plant behind this parking lot and the smell was terrible. We went to check out the room and were greeted by bags of trash lining the sidewalks to the elevators and once in our room the floor was filthy to the point I would not remove my shoes, the bed had burn marks on the comforter and stains on the sheets as well as cigarette ashes all over the "clean" sheets. There was a full ash tray on the night stand that was so badly damaged by water the side was at a 90 degree angle. The bathroom was dirty and there was only one towel and no shampoo or soap leading us to believe this room was not properly cleaned. When we looked out our window even more undesirable people continued to fill the parking lot and were grilling out like they were regular residents there. Having a lot of valuables in our truck and trailer and the filthy conditions of the room we knew we weren't going to be able to sleep there and truly felt our stuff nor us were not safe. We wouldn't even leave our stuff to walk over to the dinner next door. We decided to go to the desk and let them know our concerns and cancel our reservation. We were told we couldn't because we had been there for a while already (it was literally long enough to park, drag our suit cases to the elevator and look around the room). Finally after arguing about the safety of the location we were given a refund for all but one night which again I do not agree with as the room had not been cleaned and looked as though someone just had left for dinner. I truly believe that this hotel is used as section 8 housing when there are no apartments available. What has me the most upset is the lack of understanding from the the desk staff and when we pointed it out it was like "who cares". She wasn't even shocked when we told her the condition of our room after she looked to see who cleaned it. It was "oh yeah". It was so bad we left without other accomodations and were willing to drive back home if we...
Read moreNothing wrong with wanting an economic hotel, as long as it’s clean. This hotel is super economic. If you choose to stay here you will have 2 options a smoking allowed room and a non smoking room. Honestly, there’s no difference at all the non smoking room, it smells like smoke so don’t pay extra for the non smoking because you’ll still get the smoking allowed experience! After a long trip you’re going to want to freshen up, this motel 6 offers their customers a shower with dirt in the tub as well as hairs decorating the chipped tub! I’m sure you’ll also appreciate the used towels covered in black dirt and mirrors that have never seen windex ever! Motel 6 even gives you the pet friendly experience by allowing insect critters to be in your room. Have fun getting dust getting in your nose because the whole room is filled with it. I’m sure you’re tired by now, it’s time to rest in a bed filled with blood stains because who cares if you run the risk of getting a disease right? Being absolutely real only the 2 male employees in the check in are nice & respectful... But the manager is a doll!! I mean she really truly wants to make sure you have a dirty experience and if you bring up your dirty rooms (plural because I had to have my room switched twice because of how nasty they were) she will look at you annoyed. Look miss manager, if you live like that, that’s on you. At least be a leader and check the room yourself if you don’t believe me, don’t be lazy. The cleaning girl had literally came out of cleaning the second room they gave us and it was still in terrible conditions. She just goes in there blasts her music and then when she feels like she has been in the room long enough to make it look like she cleaned, she’ll leave. She didn’t clean anything. Also if your handicap, you’ll be accommodated with nothing! Elevators don’t work! Lastly, this motel 6 has a 15 minute policy for a refund but manager will make sure she disappears so that when it’s finally your turn to tell them the 2nd room was still terrible she won’t want to refund you and will just tell you she can’t help you and walk away on you. But no worries Lily, your facility didn’t keep my money. A better hotel did because I got my money back and I have photos to back me up but since you didn’t believe me I doubt you’ll care. Customers, have standards and don’t stay here,...
