BED BUG ALERT!!!!!!
This hotel is disgusting. I am reporting them to the health department, but I want to make sure that anyone who is even slightly considering staying here to STAY AWAY if you don't want a horrible experience. Upon arrival, the room smelled old and musty, like mildew. There were pieces of the carpet cut out, there were mysterious brown splatter stains on the ceiling by my bed, it was all gross.
I checked both beds in the room (as I always do, regardless of how nice or fancy the hotel is) by pulling down the comforter and each sheet, layer by layer. There were food crumbs ALL OVER both beds, and dried blood stains on the sheets and pillow cases. There was hair and makeup stains on another pillow case.
At that point I told my brother (who I was there with) not to take his socks off, because this place was clearly so dirty and definitely hadn't been cleaned, I didn't want us getting a fungus or anything from exposed skin. I went over to the phone in the room to call the front desk and ask for fresh sheets, and the phone was COVERED in orange dorito dust and crumbs. I mean COVERED. Piles of orange dust. Anyway, I called. No answer. So I took a bunch of pictures of the mess and walked over to the front desk and showed the front desk person how nasty everything was. The guy at the front was apologetic. I told him I wasn't comfortable sleeping inside of the actual bed, so I asked if he would bring up 4 clean sheets so I could lay them on the beds to sleep on top of. Welp, those sheets were dirty too.
So I went to my car and pulled out my dirty beach blankets that I always keep in my trunk, but they were at least cleaner than the nasty sheets in the hotel room. My brother and I each took a blanket and cocooned ourselves in it, making sure not to have any part of our bodies touching the actual beds.
In the morning we wanted to shower, and to no surprise at all, every single towel was dirty. Even the small hand towels. So I figured I would just use my sleep shirt as a towel. When I got out of the shower and opened the shirt that I had slept in all night, I saw the bed bug crawling around. I smooshed it immediately and got dressed, cautiously checking every article of clothing.
A few days later a bunch of sores started popping up on my body in clusters and lines. I read that bed bugs deposit an anesthetic property into the skin before they bite, and that anesthetic wares off in a few days to a couple weeks, when victims typically see the bites inflaming. I had bites EVERYWHERE. Still do as I'm writing this. (see photos)
I have called the hotel asking to speak with the owner or manager 3 times now, and every time the front desk person tells me that he isn't in but he'll give him the message to call me. Psh. I also emailed them with pictures attached of my bites and the messy room. I finally threatened to contact the health dept, which I am now doing, and the front desk person gave me a refund. I still haven't heard from the HORRIBLE general manager. He should be fired. That fool KNOWS his hotel is nasty and wouldn't pass a health standard check, and he is a COWARD for trying to hide from his customers. Shame, shame. Had he been apologetic, I wouldn't have taken it so far, but I'm concerned for other peoples' safety at this point. So my next review will be to the Monterey Health Dept, and then the local news stations. This place needs to be shut down.
DO NOT STAY HERE. HEALTH HAZARD!! BED BUGS!!!! SAVE...
Read moreI am going to put everything in points to be CLEAR: 1.- I explained to the "manager-receptionist" that I needed a room at the bottom because my mother could not climb stairs and she did the opposite, giving me the 2nd floor... 2 .- When changing rooms, the door does not work, the handle is all broken and the cards are sometimes recognized and sometimes not, the room was not clean in general EVERYTHING was dirty, even other people's underwear was under the bed, it smelled a lot of chlorine because the "cleaning" lady added a lot of chlorine and half mopped the floor with a SUPER DIRTY mop, and when I finished I took out an air freshener and to "mitigate" the smell of chlorine I added too much of the aroma spray. The facilities are terrible, super horrible, in poor condition and its staff is the same as the place, TERRIBLE! 3.- There is no place for you to hang your clothes, the sink and shower faucets are in poor condition and poorly installed. 4.- Disgusting walls and windows. 5.- The dirty sheets and the blankets are worse because they were even stained with who knows what. 6.- I claimed all this and more with the "manager-receptionist" and he promised me a 25% discount that "supposedly" I would receive by email advising that it was done; but it was all a lie. 7.- The toilet had drained urine and puddles behind and to the side of the bathtub. 8.- There is an atmosphere of insecurity in that place, since the handle of the door and the window are broken and it gives the impression that someone could enter the room to steal. 9.- In the Laundry area it looks like a junkyard and the parking lot has old cars full of things (garbage) and with flat tires. 10.- You meet people who take drugs because it even smells like marijuana and you find syringes outside in the parking lot. 11.- They charge as a 3 or 4 star hotel and it is a pigsty. 12.- I read the comments on different sites, and people tell about the terrible experience they had in that place. 13.- I had to carry all my valuables during my stay for fear that they...
Read moreI cannot begin to start saying about how dissatisfied I was with my stay at Monterey Fairgrounds Inn. We were at the beach all day and checked in only at around 7pm. After an exhausting day the only thing we wanted to do was take a shower and rest especially with two small children. To a great disappointment we came into a room of complete disaster. The bedsheets were messy and used. The carpet had food crumbs and needed a deep vacuum. The AC didnt work and when we opened the window there was no net. The lights didnt work and after they said they fixed it it flickered the whole time. No trash no soap no toilet paper. Furniture was all misplaced. Walls had so many screws and whole patches looked like a construction room. The bathtub looked as if it was never washed. And there were a bunch of used towels left. A completely uncleaned room not ready at all. So we decided to leave them to clean it and after returning an hour later they were in no rush to clean it so we waited inside while they cleaned the room and washed our bedspreads. We tried to watch some TV for the kids and even that didnt work. Normally check in is at 3 but we only checked in fully at 10pm. Also the outside had left over beer and wine bottles and trash everywhere on the stairs and cleaning supplies. Unprofessional and rude staff no customer service at all. The cleaning guy was in no rush to help and seemed drunk. Didnt feel safe with the kids. After trying to work with them to get some of our money back from their lack of care they said there was nothing to be done. $200 definitely not worth the stay. Never again. It was a spontaneous last minute trip and this was the only hotel that we found available within our budget. WORSE STAY EVER!! Please check out the pictures...
