Scottish Fairway Inn — Hotel in Monterey

I’m remiss to give this place 1 star. The one thing I loved about this place, was the staff. They were all very kind, patient, and respectful, absolutely nothing bad to say about them. However, the facility itself was abhorrent for me. I had a group of people coming from all over to stay here for a few nights and for starters, no breakfast. That typically isn’t an issue but one reason we booked rooms here was because one of our guests was pregnant and specifically requested a facility that offered a breakfast so we saw this place. She had even gone as far as calling ahead of time to ask if breakfast was offered here to which she was told yes but upon arrival “no sorry we don’t serve breakfast here”. First disappointment. Second, the WiFi was spotty, some of our guests got excellent WiFi, others got basically no WiFi access, it was overall just a hit and miss on connection. Third, the showers. There was legitimately a sign inside the room giving instructions how to turn on the shower because apparently the stoppers don’t work so you had to finagle with the tub spout to get the shower head to work which is ridiculous, not to mention water temperature was horrendous. Trying to find the right temp for a shower was like trying to crack a safe. A millimeter too far one way led to an ice bath, too far the other way was boiling. To top that off once you did find the right temp it was constantly cutting to cold randomly then heating back up, not fun. Fourth, I don’t know know about the tv in the other rooms but the tv in the room I had had half of the screen burnt out like the screen was dying plus had black spots all along the top of the screen as though holes had been punched in the pixels. Fifth, in the 3 days stay we had here, I actually came across bugs in my room, not very settling when you pair that with everything else. In short I personally do not recommend this facility and frankly if I could get a refund I’d take it...

Honestly, this entire stay was SO disappointing. Firstly, we booked a balcony with a suite because of pictures of an ocean view and the ability to "cook" (at least plates & utensils) in our room. When we arrived, our room was downstairs so no view, just a dingy patio with no furniture but ok- fine.||Immediately read a sign posted in the room saying "no cooking" even though there were burners? But the cabinets were bare, no plates, pots nothing. So I called and they said they don't have any plates or utensils to give me but I could cook "if I want..." with what?? I asked for compensation as that's WHY we booked this room to be greeted with "well I don't know how you saw pictures." I got them to give me some plastic knives from their breakroom but that was it.||This aside, I was still hopeful... But BOY was the room DIRTY. I took off my socks and shoes and my feet were BLACK within minutes. I mean, there was literally a cobweb next to the door, it did NOT look at all clean. In fact, the sheets on the pull out bed had sand and black things in it (even though the bed was "made"). It was so gross.||The shower was ridiculously difficult to get to a temperature that wasn't scalding or freezing, but the pressure was fine so-okay. But it does drip alllll day afterwards. The toilet I had to fix myself twice because the chain kept de-attaching from the handle and it wouldn't flush. Oh and the bedroom TV just didn't work at all...||All together, wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
