My wife and I recently secured lodging along with our car club for three nights during the Laguna Seca races in 2015.
We have a Handicapped sticker, but could not park in the designated disabled parking space due to a white Ford SUV parked there. So we parked next to the Handicapped marked space next to the Handicapped parking space.
During the first night there at around 11:00 p.m., the owner/manager began banging on our room door and our room phone began ringing at the same time. Apparently, a late night lodging customer had just arrived and the owner/manager wanted us to move our car over in order for the late arrival to park their other car in the Handicapped blue stripped space next to their white Ford SUV.
We indicated to the manager that our car was parked next to the Handicapped parking space with the painted blue stripes, and that it was illegal to park a car in that area. No matter what we said, the owner/manager was very curt about owning the property and according to her, "she could let anyone park wherever she indicated no matter if they are Handicapped or not".
We then indicated that the police could issue an expensive citation if they observed a car parked illegally within a Handicapped space in violation. Then the car owner got into the discussion about parking in a Handicapped location. I asked him if he had a Handicapped sticker and the response was "no, he did not".
We indicated that we have a Handicapped sticker, but could not park in the Handicapped mark space because his SUV was already illegally parked there.
Then the owner/manager yelled at us to "go to bed and not worry about the situation".
We did and the next morning upon checking out, discovered the second car was not parked on the blue stripes at the Handicapped parking spot, but in the driveway in front of the motel office.
Upon checking out, we told the owner/manager that we did not appreciate being awakened late at night to move our parked car to accomodate a late arriving customer. Then the owner/manager stated "we were lucky she did not call the Police on us last night". Not a very nice person!
I would strongly discourage anyone considering selection of this Super 8 Motel. The owner/manager is very ill informed about Handicapped parking restrictions, extremely rude to customers and basically incapable of any logical reasoning.
I also plan to complain about this owner/manager individual to the Super 8...
Read moreIf I could give this place "0" stars I would! We booked through Priceline and chose this motel because we were trying to be more economical and knew it would not be the best quality but it was described as family friendly and Priceline reported it was pet friendly. In us taking our 20 pound Westie-poo that part was a must. So my husband checked us in and were given the key. We were literally at the point of stepping into the room when a motel staff (an Indian women who I believe may be the owner) came rushing at us (my husband, myself, 3 year old daughter and our dog) demanding that we not go into the room, that dogs were not allowed and we needed to go back to the office. The woman and another staff (possibly her husband) continue to yell as we walked in and as I tried to show her my reservation that specifically said pet friendly. She yelled over me and said that contract stated no pets. Which we did not realize until this interaction. It was clearly an issue between Priceline and the motel but the motel took no responsibility and said we couldn't stay and we needed to contact Priceline directly to get reimbursed. We have never felt so offended in our entire lives. The woman treated myself and our family as if we stole or lied from them, even we tried to explain that we believed we were checking into a pet friendly hotel and further did not provoke such hostility. The woman wouldn't listen told us and rudely told us go to a"super 6" next door, while her employee apologized continuously to us. We had to contact Priceline for our money back, look for a much nicer place to stay and try to get over how offended we had become when we had not provided this interaction. I'd rather spend the extra money then be disrespected like this again. Our trip was almost ruined for something that could just as easily have been recommended with some respect...
Read moreI noticed that this place hasn't been reviewed for almost a year so I wanted to post an update. I've stayed here three times -- once about a year ago, and two time in the last month. Definitely nothing special here, but I would say it's a serviceable motel for a quick business trip for the low-budget traveler.||I think maybe it's changed hands in the last year...not sure. Furnishings and finishes are in good enough shape I suppose, but I wouldn't say it's been renovated recently.||Pros:||Walking distance to a number of fairly good restaurants, including Denny's directly across the street. Unfortunately, thank's to Monterey's idiotic planning people, Fremont St. can't be crossed here, so you have to walk down to the nearest intersection.||Decent clientele. I've seen slightly rough characters here, but not the loser criminal type. Mostly a mix of low-budge tourists and tradesmen looking for an inexpensive stay.||OK TVs, acceptable coffee maker, clean fridge, very spacious tiled bathrooms.||Last but not least: it's literally steps from the Fairgrounds, so if you're going to a concert there, this place would be awesome.|||Cons:||Difficult to walk downtown or to major tourist attractions from here.||The entry from Fremont is awkward at best, perhaps a little dangerous at worst. It's too sharp of a turn, and it's really difficult to find the driveway on your first visit.||The (ONLY) exit puts you onto Fairground Road and is super narrow, squeezed between the building and an autoshop. Visibility is almost zero, so you have to creep out super slowly and hope you don't get wacked by a car doing 45+ mph.||No microwave ovens in room. Huh???????||||Overall this is a great value when you consider the competitive pricing that they usually offer ($69 - $99) and that's why I'm adding a star. Just make sure you're ready for a "no frills"...
