My husband Oscar booked a night here on 08/02 and already upon walking in I knew we should have turned around when I saw the place couldn't even be bothered to put in effort to keep the room doors clean. So many of the doors are filled with stains, smudges, and dirt. Fast forward to a few hours later and we had encountered many roaches in our hotel room. It was clear we had to leave and it was so inconvenient cause we just came off an 8 hour drive, and were beyond exhausted. A couple of roaches were even crawling up the bedskirts!
We went immediately to leave and after showing Tracie the pics, she told us to call Booking.com, and the hotel would approve the refund. We left the hotel, but drove back because my husband discovered he had been charged a $100 deposit, which Tracie later told him would be refunded. Hadn't even planned on leaving any review. Just happy to get a refund and move on...but something very outlandish soon followed that left a really sour taste in our mouths.
At some point while sitting and discussing in the car, I didn't know when we drifted into sleep. It wasn't intentional but makes sense cause we had been driving all day and had been very exhausted.
Sometime later, a lady named Christie Serino who I presume to be in some position of authority, approached the vehicle in a rather brash manner, yelling, "Hey, y'all can't sleep here! Do you have a room here?!" To which I responded, "Yes, we had to check out due to the many roaches in the room." Her response? "Okay, well, y'all can't stay here. Once you checkout, you gotta leave! If you don't have a room here, then you can't be here." She turned to leave then paused and turned to make an offputting, unnecessary and obtuse addition, "and actually y'all need to leave now because if you stayed here all night in your car, it would be unlikely you'd get a refund!" Let the stupidity of that statement sink in. That would be akin to threatening to charge a restaurant patron for the full price of a meal they never had, not for any food provided, but simply for their presence in the restaurant. Imagine threatening to charge someone the cost of one night's accommodation for a room with a bed and a bathroom because they fell asleep in their own car after they had to vacate your dilapidated hotel room due to an infestation of roaches? Shameless. Brash. Illogical and Inane.
I've had an extensive career in customer service and one glaring thing I noticed from both Tracie and Christy S was this sense of nonchalance to the customer's plight. No understanding. No compassion. No putting yourself in the customer's shoes. No hospitality. Not one of them at any point ever even bothered to say, "Wow so many roaches in your room! I'm so sorry that happened to you. Here's what we'll do to fix it." No care. Zero concern. They couldn't even be bothered to feign any interest. That must mean they either could really truly care less in which case, why be in customer service at all? Or they are so used to customers having issues with roaches and bugs everyday so it's just like business as usual for them at this point. More than likely, both statements are true. The energy was: "roaches? Nothing new. Big deal! Next!"
How about: "I'm so sorry you both had to check out of your room in the middle of the night due to the horrible inconvenience that we caused you. I completely understand your plight because I can imagine you must be tired, but due to the liability, security risks and other factors, we don't allow anyone to stay on the property for any period of time in their cars." No such understanding was given. Instead we were met with a mannerless, brash, tactless, inconsiderate, makeshift hotel bouncer cosplaying as a manager who came to offer threats of no refund for being in our car on the property, as if customers pay money while checking in at OYO Hotel for the distinct pleasure of sleeping in their cars.
Then a few days later, a Booking.com rep informed us the hotel refused to issue a refund. We're disputing with our bank! Avoid this creepy, scamming place...
Read moreI've read the reviews and they're ridiculous. You can't beat the Oyo's price. Its always the cheapest on the grand Strand... even with the resort tax, which is not their fault You're not gonna find a hotel without a resort tax, in the area Or in any other city that has tourists, that the government can make money off of..So, you can't beat it for the price. It's the cheapest hotel. In the area and it is far from the worst. This used to be the coolest area in Myrtle Beach...but it has seem beter days. If you wanted a Dubai vacation, you should have done your research.. This is no longer a nice or safe area. It's like choosing to vacation in Atlantic City instead of the hamptons....Everybody knows that Myrtle.Beach is seedy compared to the other beaches in the area. So you're getting a really cheap hotel room in a pretty bad area. It used to be a good area. But when burrows and Chapin took out the pavilion, it went downhill from there.. So, with Myrtle Beach actually crumbling all around you. This is a gem right smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle. It's a quick walk to the beach, putt-putt, boardwalk, farris wheel, Ripley's believe it or not, shopping, restaurants and arcades I was expecting a disgusting shit hole But now i've stayed there 3 times pleasantly surprised every single time. The staff is. Amazing. They are helpful, friendly and accommodating. I feel safe on the property , as a single woman.I actually feel safe here. Remember, this is a cheap hotel room and usually cheap hotels pay their staff pennies So, the rooms are generally not very clean. I'm an expert at this topic because I used housekeeping service app the housekeeping service at the Thunderbird motel In north miami beach. Because the rooms have been immaculate every time. I've come here and I come with my own cleaning supplies. I've never had to use 3 times The 3 times that I've stayed here.I've only seen one palmetto bug. That has nothing to do with cleanliness. That's about a water source and every building in the state of southCarolina.. Which is known as the palmetto state. We even have one on our flag. It's almost a requirement to have palmetto bugs, Kind of like pretty much always gonna have a gecko in your hotel room in South florida So if you're staying in a 5 star resort,... you're still gonna get palmetto bugs...Now on to alleged bed bugs..i came with a black light and none of the rooms I stayed In had bed bugs. They're using white bed spreads. Now, which I find to be in very good taste because I like when my feet are bleached. it's very rare to have bed bugs in a hotel room that doesn't have carpeting. These rooms have laminate floors. So the people talking about bed bugs might be using their imagination or maybe They don't understand that there are a couple blocks from the beach and we have no seeums.... Just keep your door closed at sunrise and sunset.. But I saw no evidence of bed bugs.. People shouldn't throw that word around. It can really do harm to people's business period being... If you are not from the South, then you do not understand the bugs bit.Make up our ecosystem from Virginia down to the tip of Florida. We have too many bugs.. We have so many bugs that it's almost like a science fiction novel... And they're not Going anywhere anytime soon So if you don't like bugs.. Maybe you should go to the desert instead of the beach... just sayin... Make sure you bring spray. And I don't mean Raid. I mean, mosquito and no seems spray. There's a good one called no gnats That you can find at ace hardware and beach shops. And, without carpet, and drapery. You're not gonna get bed bugs. It's usually the more expensive hotels that have bed bug problems because of their long hallways with carpeting, the carpet going into the rooms... lots of pillows and Poofy curtains, that's where bed bugs hide. But I haven't seen any evidence, especially .They wouldn't survive on the floors...so if you still scared. Put your suitcase up on the table, .Don't put it on the floor. Lighten up this is a great...
Read moreWhere to begin…||||My friend and I arrived in Myrtle early in the morning after driving for eight hours, so we decided to call the motel to see if an early check-in would be available. The woman who answered told us that we could check in immediately if we slipped her a $20. We didn’t think it was worth it, so we declined her offer. We waited to check in at 3:00, and upon checking in we realized that we had been catfished. The conditions of our room were unsanitary and unlivable, and was nothing like the photos posted by the motel. There was mold in the fridge, on the air conditioner, and in the bathroom. The furniture was all on its last life, the room reeked like cigarettes, and I kid you not the blankets were riddled with disgusting stains.||||After realizing that the conditions of the room were completely different and meeting up with our friends that were also staying in Myrtle, we began to repack our belongings and check out. While we were packing the car a giant man with missing teeth approached us and asked us what we were doing. He seemed to be on drugs or intoxicated, and he immediately told us he worked for the motel and asked us what we were doing. We explained to him that the conditions of the room were not as they were presented online, and that we were packing up early. He immediately became irate and aggressive, and started yelling at us and said that we were getting evicted and that we would not be getting our security deposit back of $100. When we tried to argue with him that this was ridiculous, as we had done nothing at all besides attempt to check out early, he became aggressive, and actually threatened to physically assault us while coming within centimeters of one of my friends, screaming at him for no reason. After this happened, we immediately called 911, as he was threatening to assault us, telling us we could not grab our remaining items in the motel room, and saying we had to leave immediately as we were being evicted. Like I said, he did not appear to be sober.||||After the police arrived they assisted us in retrieving our property from the motel room, but unfortunately could not help us with the $100 security deposit (which we were told must be paid in cash upon check in; and received no receipt for), as it was a civil matter.||||We left immediately after packing up, and found a much nicer hotel to stay at for only $25 more a night. You can’t make this stuff up people. Please don’t make the same mistake as we did looking for a cheap stay in Myrtle, your safety is worth an extra...
