My family&I had an amazing stay&vacation (besides few minor things) @Palms Resort 7/22-7/25. 1st, after my mother-in-law booked our trip, she was told that we could check-in @2pm but after arriving, whoever was @the front desk did not allow it&we had to wait until 4. A lil after 4pm(busy&long line, understandable) Not 1available cart&we had to make a few trips back&forth to cars to get stuff up to 3 bedroom condo-502. Arriving it was cozy, clean, more than enough room for us 6, & an incredible&beautiful oceanfront view off of not 1, but 2 balconies. 1 in the living room& the other outside the master bedroom that you can also go out on from the 2nd sliding door in living room. The 2nd bedroom had lil porch facing the front of hotel & a big window w/ an amazing view of the beach as well. The 3rd bedroom, obviously a closet turned into a kid's room w/ 2 twin beds, besides it being cute, my 5&7 1/2 y/o loved it! Our condo had a working washer&dryer that made it possible to leave w/hardly any dirty clothes. 502 also has a full kitchen w/everything you need to cook, but wouldn't pack&bring w/you. Checking in, we got 2 parking passes which was perfect. We parked 1 car under the parking deck right across the street&handicap was available to my in-laws & was after leaving&returning multiple times. Our 1st day, renovations were taking place on the floor above&annoying. After spending time @the beach&returning, the noises had stopped & did so for the remainder of trip, while in room. The elevator made a few scary noises, but thankfully didn't get stuck. Though staff wasn't @ front desk much going through lobby, the staff was respectful&helpful. Otw out to beach on our 3rd day, housekeeper came & gave us everything we needed; our entire stay, we didn't run out of washcloths, towels, or toilet paper; but we did make our own beds each day. When planning our trip, my mother-in-law put a down payment @Palms & had meant to @a hotel w/similar name. Like I told her, it wasn't a mistake b/c she did an amazing job finding the perfect hotel for our vacation &we all loved our stay @Palms Resort. All the reviews I read about the hotel being in the perfect spot is true! Besides a grocery store(Wal-Mart is 10 min down the rd) every/anything families would want to do/see at Myrtle Beach is in walking distance; what more could you ask for!? This being our 1st time staying here & after reading reviews, the room you stay in can make or break your vacation & renting through the hotel is the way to go. We not only had an amazing time together, we got a beautiful & well taken care of condo also that was perfect for us. Palms Resort may not be 5stars or the best we've stayed at, but it's one of the nicest I've seen that also has well kept amenities, such as a clean indoor&outdoor pool & jacuzzi that's fun for lil ones&parents or even couples&families w/o kids. There's not much more that you can ask for if you stay @Palms. Lastly the morning of our last day, my m-i-l had asked for a later checkout time&was willing to pay a fee. Whomever my sweet mother-in-law spoke to denied that extra time to us w/o reason. Even just a lil extra time would have sufficed. Just knowing how expensive the condo was&us 6 being some of the best guests there is(not asking for anything or complaining at all, cleaning up after ourselves, respecting employees&other guests, following hotel rules, etc.) no one had any right to tell her no, esp after reading reviews where it was allowed for others. Like I said we all enjoyed our stay&even though being told we could&ended up not able to check in early wasn't a big deal, but asking for a later time to checkout, willing to pay extra & knowing it won't effect anyone checking in hours later, there's not 1 reason the answer should of been no. We will be recommending Palms Resort to family&friends & plan on returning in the future. Thank y'all for giving us an amazing place to stay during our 2019 beach trip. Can't wait to see future...
Read moreI booked a 3BR/3BA Penthouse (PH#6) at The Palms though VRBO. I absolutely enjoyed my stay, and I hope to write a review that will help others considering this location make a decision.
About The Palms: The Palms is an older complex in Downtown Myrtle Beach, walking distance from the "main drag" that has endless entertainment, dining, shopping, and the Myrtle Beach Pier. There are two towers, both of which consist primarily of privately owned units. The Palms does retain some of the units as a 'hotel' so theoretically you can walk in and get a room. But again, the majority of these units are privately owned. There are two pools; one indoor and one outdoor. There are three hot tubs; two indoor and one outdoor. There's a gym that contains basic equipment that gets the job done. There's also a beautiful beachfront lawn with lounge chairs that makes for a perfect spot to relax. Aside from that, there's not much else. If you're looking for a true resort-style experience with poolside bars, entertainment, 15 pools etc, then I would say The Palms is probably not your cup of tea. The Palms is a quiet, low-key, no-frills, place to spend time at the beach.
About The Room: I booked PH#6 in the south tower through VRBO (Hosteeva). PH#6 is a two-story, three bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse with 4 balconies. The wow factor hits you immediately. Who wouldn't love two floors worth of ocean-front views? The unit itself was clean and well-kept, with a tasteful interior. This is one of the major factors that might affect your experience at The Palms. I cannot express enough that the rooms being privately owned matters. Some owners don't keep their units as well as others, so do your research. Each bedroom has it's own private balcony. The two guest bedrooms have small balconies that face the street, while the master bedroom has its own private balcony on the top floor of the building. There are 3 bathrooms, one half bath downstairs and two full baths upstairs. One of the upstairs bathrooms is within the master bedroom. I couldn't get over how cool it felt to have a two-story beachfront room.
What I liked: I liked that The Palms had such a 'casual' feeling. Again, The Palms is not a 'resort' in the typical sense. The amenities are just enough to help you have a relaxing vacation. It's not a party-spot. The beach in front of the building did not seem crowded to me, contrary to other reviews. And I stayed during peak-season (second week of July). I loved the lawn, and the outdoor hot-tub which was the perfect temperature. I liked how close The Palms is to pretty much everything. You can walk to so much that you could simply park your car and forget about it. I also liked the friendliness of the staff. Everyone raves about Wendy, and the maintenance staff are equally as pleasant. The fact that this is a private building contributed to a lack of crowds. It was not uncommon to see the pools/ hot-tubs empty or with few people in them. I never waited for an elevator. In fact, I think I only even shared an elevator twice.
What I didn't like: The biggest thing that irked me about The Palms is that the pools close at 9PM. This is absurdly early. Literally everywhere else I've stayed the pools are open til at least 10:30PM. I'm not sure why they're doing this, but I can guarantee they'd get a better rapport if they kept the pools open later. If the pools didn't close at 9:00, I'd have given 5-stars.
Final Thoughts: I would recommend The Palms to friends travelling together (as I was), couples, families with the elderly, and families with young kids. I wouldn't recommend The Palms to those looking for the 'resort' experience, those looking to have a party (nothing wrong with that if you are). I relaxed here, I got a tan on the lawn here, and I recharged. That's what matters. Thank you to The Palms and...

My adventure at the Palms started with a condo I rented. Condo 102 avoid like the plague. I rented this condo through VRBO which had it not been for Wendy and Dee my week long family vacation would have been VERY different. This condo was a construction disaster dangerous disgusting nightmare. Both Wendy and Dee were appalled when they discovered that I was charged almost double for this room and also equally disgusted at the condition of the room. Those two ladies went out of their way to relocate us into a condo that we ACTUALLY paid for 1601. BEAUTIFUL! Difference as Night and day!
My only experience with the Palms was room 102. It was very important to Wendy who has been an employee at the palms for 22 years and Dee to show me other condos that more accurately represent the Palms resort and all 3 were lovely! The resort was fairly booked so having 3 random condos all beautiful and updated was reassuring that 102 has owner issues he won't address. I'm not sure why the palms just doesn't buy him out and get him out of there.
The palms is a beautiful resort with a indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub. It would be perfect if there was a tiki bar! Family friendly and the staff is absolutely wonderful! My only exception is the young man tally or talus that works on Friday. That young man has no sense whatsoever about customer service And could really care less that you do anything except for make his life more convenient and less trouble. He should not be working there he is not a good face for this resort. He was the very first person I came in contact with which was a horrible experience as he was pressuring me to write down a code while I was driving. Lied to me and said he wanted me to avoid the line. Pulled up 4 minutes later, NO ONE at the desk. He and 102 condo were my 1st impressions of The Palms. Both stunk.
Again, Palms management Wendy and Dee need to be honored in some way as I know by reading reviews this is not the 1st time the reputation of the Palms has been saved by these women. Thank you again ladies with all my heart for turning my Myrtle beach vacation from a nightmare into a dream getaway. Rating went from Zero to 4...
