I give hotel 3.5 stars. PROs: - The view is fabulous. The beach is right there, which is great. Please note that you cannot have any kind of tent on the beach. Umbrellas only. That's a Myrtle Beach rule, not a hotel rule btw, but since the beach comes with the hotel, I thought I would mention it. Free breakfast included. Other reviews state that the breakfast was lousy, but I thought it was decent. It wasn't gourmet, but it was hot. Mostly packaged items of what you'd find in your grocery freezer aisle. Free parking. I had no trouble with the garage. We are in a sedan. Mostly nice staff, with the exception of the mean lady with the brown hair (who really should be FIRED) and the random people who literally just sit there and watch you, meanwhile with an hour+ wait check-in time. One of the ladies got snippy when I was checking out. She told me "check out over there," but then got very snarky the second time and told me "you need to just put your bracelet in the BASKET OVER THERE." That is not what you said the first time. CONs: The elevators really needed an air vent or something. The second elevator was also broken one of the days, which caused a huge problem. The housekeeping staff needs to learn what the word "housekeeping" actually means. Do not expect anything other than being given a towels, e.g. getting toiletries (including toilet paper), making your bed, picking up any dirty towels off the floor, or vacuuming. I finally figured out that if I left a note each day, they would leave the items that I needed. (This was of course after waiting over an hour in the front desk line to deal with the woman who should be fired to get some shampoo.) The room was also worn out and many things needed to be fixed: the remote controllers were broken, so we couldn't watch the television unless we got up and manually switched the channel (too 1980s for me!), the knives were dull, the alarm clock was just flat-out broken, you couldn't use the tub to take a bath, the oven gave me a second degree burn by using the handle (it was definitely NOT up to code), my comforter had a big hole in it, my sheets had some kind of ink stain on it, and several outlets were not functioning. The bed was also super uncomfortable. I woke up in the middle of the night two nights with a terrible back ache from the bed. The fitness center is downright bad, but fortunately, there is a Planet Fitness nearby if you have their Black Card membership. They also have daily rates. Lastly, we weren't able to sit outside on our porch because of all the pot and cigarette smoking. They advertise "absolutely no smoking," but this was not the case. I don't care if other people smoke, but c'mon, you don't have to literally do it from the start of the day to the end of the day. It got to the point where we couldn't even open the...
Read moreAfter reading several reviews about this hotel I was a little concerned about what I was getting myself into. All my fears were unfounded the minute I walked into the lobby. We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 a.m. hoping to check in early. Our room wasn't ready yet but Jenn at the front desk found us a room that was the same as ours that was available immediately. Great start. As we entered our room I was a little leary as to what I would find. What I found was a very well appointed room with a fridge, sink, toaster and coffee maker, along with flatware, dishes and glasses for our use. Everything was clean and well appointed. Yes, it is an older hotel and probably could use a little decor updating but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. The free breakfast was a nice perk. It's was your typical hotel (hot) breakfast with a reasonable amount of variety. All items were well stocked and monitored by the staff for replenishing. The pool and surrounding area was clean and well maintained. Steps away was the beautiful beach with umbrellas and lounge chairs for rent. The bar/restaurant area was small but sufficient with a select menu of mostly hand held items. Everything we had there was very good. The crowning glory was our bartender, George. He was very efficient about making sure our food and drinks were replenished when needed and engaged in conversation with us when things weren't hectic. He made us feel very welcome. The free hotel shuttle was a great perk, taking us to any of the restaurants or attractions in the area that we desired as well as to and from the airport. Another perk was the fact that we could use the amenities at their sister hotel (The Breakers) which was a short walk away. We enjoyed the lazy river at the Breakers. There was also a D.J. there but he was a little loud for our liking. We are in our 70's so I'm sure it was fine for the younger crowd. All in all we had a wonderful time and would not...
Read moreThe hotel did not have a bicycle rack so the desk clerk told me keep the bikes on my vehicle , bikes were stolen.|. (E bike and 10 speed)|The Strand shares a parking garage with the Patricia Grand Hotel next-door. Neither hotel will take responsibility for stolen items. |They only have two cameras protecting the entire parking garage. Apparently security does not Patrol the garage much. We parked our car at 10:30 in the evening and went out at 5:30 P.m. the next day to find the bicycle rack, dismantled and scattered across the garage floor.| if security would have drove through they would have surely seen a problem.|With camera equipment being fairly inexpensive to install and use, one would think the two hotels using the garage would do more to prevent theft.|Although the managers of both hotels were apologetic, they didn’t really seem to care enough to do anything to stop the crime that had been happening in their garage .|They have had cars broken into in the past, but neglected to provide better security.||(When we were walking through the garage one day after parking, we noticed six Kids using the garage to skateboard. )||We contacted the police. They visited the Patricia grand but we’re not able to access the video at that time. No one followed up to view and try to catch the hoodlums police never called us back hotel never offered us to view video. We went back to Pittsburgh and nobody cares if the garage is Safe or seems to be going to do anything to help cover our loss they will not offer us a free weekend stay or any compensation| I would recommend they put in a bicycle rack between the two hotels so bikes can be locked in a public area with high traffic And they provide security to drive through the garage every few hours to discourage people from causing harm to their guest. Our bikes were locked but it did not stop the crime.|The hotels can do something about it but don’t care...
