I stayed at the hotel on Jan. 3-6. When we arrived around 3:38 there were a number of people waiting due to a system outage. We didn’t care about the wait bc of that so we waited patiently. When it got to me, the check in process was easy and the young lady gave us our keys and off we went. We arrived to the room to find another guess was already in that room so we returned back to the desk to swap the keys out. Once again not complaining due to the staff trying to work around whatever system wasn’t working. The staff was very apologetic and we received a new room key and proceeded to the second room. This room also had guests already in it. Still not complaining, we went and received our third set of keys. The staff member Whitney offered to walk us to the next room to ensure guest weren’t in there. She took us to a room that had double queen beds. I explained to her we booked for a King suite and that was what was needed. She then took us back and at this point the manager on duty (Alicia) asked the young lady to bring us back and she would take us to another room that matched the one that was booked. Still not complaining, we get to this room and it smelled awful. I asked her did she not smell how bad the room smelled and she stated , “that she was sick and couldn’t smell anything.” Well now I’m upset . Not disrespectful, but asked her about the smell again and the room wasn’t properly cleaned bc it still had food fingerprints all over the refrigerator. I asked her to have someone come clean it and we left and went to dinner. She stated that she would discount for the smell of the room and she would have someone come in and clean the refrigerator and spray something for the smell. At this point when we left it was 5:08PM. We returned and the refrigerator had been wiped down but the room still smelled as bad as before. The next day we left out and returned again and the smell in the room didn’t lighten up at all. I called the front desk and told them that we needed another room or we would just go to another hotel. The young lady Whitney at the front desk was very kind and I asked her to come to the room just so a hotel staff person would see I wasn’t exaggerating. As so. As she walked in she was like, “ I’m so sorry, , give us a chance to fix this.” She called her manager and it was Alicia again and so she stated she apologized and they would move us to another room. I asked, “ how are we being compensated for this due to us having to sleep in a room I told you was awful from the beginning?” She stated we would be fully reimbursed and would also get our deposit back. Well that never happened. We revived a 30% off due to the smell of the room. At checkout, when I seen that it didn’t have any comments to us being reimbursed, I asked the manager then for a corporate number. They handed me a card to the GM. Well, they failed to mention she was out of town for the week. So then I tried to use the contact numbers on the website and guess what, it rung right back to the front desk and I didn’t catch the gentleman’s name but he said you can call whomever, you’re still going to have to contact us, Hilton can’t help you with getting your money back. I was so mad at this point, the manager at the hotel said she couldn’t reimburse me until she heard from Alicia. Well guess what, Alicia was off for two days. Now I’m really pissed and send an email to the GM. She asked if I could give her until the next week and she was apologetic. Well guess how this went. I had to call her on that next week and by that Wednesday or Thursday I had contacted her and told her I would never stay there again. She also stated she couldn’t get my money back she would have to get in touch with the Anderson hotel to see if I could get the money and she would have to get with her team to see what happened. She called me personally and stated she would call me the next morning between 10:30 and 11. Well today it the 26th and never heard from them. Never had a problem until now, but will never go back. By the way, it was my...
Read moreDO NOT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY HERE!!!!!! Treated like riffraff and LEFT FOR DEAD DURING A FIRE IN THE HOTEL. My husband and I spent almost $5,000 and left TRAUMATIZED.
First of all the pictures are misleading at best. The online photos make the rooms appear to be more desirable than what they truly are. The balconies are tiny!!! Balconies are built awkwardly (a tight triangle) and are barley big enough for one small child to sit comfortably. The Parking Garage is a hike from the hotel and you rarely find a parking spot bc the reserved "valet" spots that no one uses. No where in the Hotel did I think to myself, "oh this is why it's a five star". I gave the service 1 star because I didn't know if I put zero stars if it would show up. Service realistically would be negative 100 stars. They couldn't pay us to stay there again- it honestly was TRAUMATIC staying at AOC&S.
However this what made this place awful and unacceptable!!! We were harassed every day by management. (I am an extremely clean and private person. I bring my own bedsheets and cleaning supplies on vacation so I don't have to have maids come in. I don't trust strangers in my living space due to carrying large amounts of cash on me during vacation.) I explained prior that I am OCD about cleaning and will not require anything but fresh towels, and was told this wouldn't be an issue. Halfway through our stay management sent up a decoy cleaning lady. Yes you heard me correctly, they sent up a fake cleaning lady who just tried to get eyes in the room to report back. They took our daily cleaning refusals as we were smoking in the room (at least that's the reason they claimed). After the fake out maid, Management came up immediately THREATENED to kick us out mid stay with no refund!! Mind you the room was spotless aside from us being in the process of getting ready. The only thing that they could of smelled as being "smoke" is I always bring and burn candles bc a lot of the hotels have a mildew smell. Regardless though IMO we spent too much money to be bothered AT ALL. The hotel had a mandatory maintenance that had to be performed during our stay. We had to be completely inconvenienced while a electrician (nice guy) and a female security guard (total B*tch) bombarded us unannounced. We should have been given a warning before booking and paying for the same time slot as hotel room upgrades. There was a fire and an evacuation during the middle of the night and no one attempted to get us to safety 😡😡😡😡 we would of never even of known except for other guests talking about it the next day. The hotel tried to keep it hush hush. Another guest review mentioned the K9 unit going through the hotel. This is what we witnessed as well. We saw people getting kicked out and arrested a few times during our stay. Annoying things like no luggage carts were ever available. We saw someone complaining about that in a review prior to staying here and they were not lying. We were on the 17th floor and no luggage carts is unacceptable. Also there's room service or food of any kind. How can you be 5 stars without anything special except for an overpriced spa????
I could go on but to keep it short staying at the Anderson Ocean Club and Spa was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!! Not worth the money and management completely robs the guests of any kind of peace, relaxation and overall safety. I promise, you will REGRET staying here! You've...
Read moreEach year the Anderson seems to get worse or not any better. We are accustomed to the location, parking garage and amenities. I'm not sure when it happened but they no longer require you to use the bell service so there is a bunch of valets standing around not asking if you need help. They did accommodate my request for a higher floor room which I appreciated. Check in could've been better--4pm which is the start of check in & they had two people working with one of them leaving the desk area to go talk to the concierge about something which didn't seem to be guest related because she had no guest in front of her. I don't know if the Anderson/Hilton operates the coffee shop that is in the lobby, but it has definitely gone downhill. They open at 7 --I was there at 720 and passed the only employee getting onto the elevator to go somewhere leaving the shop unattended. The first time we got a beverage; they didn't have enough change so the employee just walks out of the store with no explanation & left me standing just waiting for her return. The next time I tried to get a coffee; they were out of plain creamer--not sure how that happens as it was earlier in the day other than someone just not paying attention or caring: tip just walk the few blocks to the Starbucks --their employees are fabulous! The first night we noticed the safe did not work so we called the front desk and they sent someone up to look at it; they did and decided the door needed replaced because it was an older model that probably just needed replaced all together. Engineering was called & the gentleman showed up very quickly we explained what needed to be done to his reply " well I'm not sure about that but guess I'll figure it out " and didn't return which was fine because it was getting later in the evening. The next day I stopped at the front desk to ask them when someone would be coming up to replace the door--to my surprise there was no note left from the shift the night before so we you guessed it --started all over with someone coming in, looking at it and calling engineering who replaced the safe. I would have thought as with most jobs the shift leaving would provide details of work that needs followed up on or that was not complete the night before. I would suggest advising guests on check in that smoking does include pot and it is illegal in the state of SC which if caught can result in them being arrested. The smell is obnoxious & makes it impossible to enjoy your balcony on a nice evening or even during the day. You only receive housekeeping one time during your visit but somehow, we were missed on the day we were told to expect someone; they did send someone the next day, but I wonder if they would have had I not requested it. They are quick to send additional towels when requested and I love the text feature--very convenient. I would think however laying dirty/wet towels and bags full of garbage in the hallways is a hazard & bug attractor. |They do offer activities at the pool, but we didn't use the pool, lazy river or hot tub. All in all it's a good hotel & because of the familiarity that's why we...
