I mightve given a 3.5 but still pretty angry about being duped. There's a lot of DIY at this resort (bring us your dirty towels to replace, take your trash to a receptacle, buy your own cleaning supplies (nobody is going to clean the bathroom during your stay but you, but with what?). Nobody is cleaning or sanitizing your room at all but you. They do leave dishwasher soap and supposed to leave laundry soap, and they give you a dish sponge and dishsoap. They do leave 2 rolls of see-thru toilet paper and one roll of paper towels in the kitchen. A broom was left but no dustbin. The rooms needed a good dusting here and there, especially the bedroom valance. The washing machine is very noisy, takes forever to run and one door to its closet is missing. The bathroom door doesn't latch properly. As to the rooms...Some dirty linens left in the washer unwashed and a mess of soap powder on the washer and floor. There was a bag of trash from previous guest left in the cabinet under the sink as well. Housekeeping was sent to retrieve it all quickly. We were told someone would come to check out the fact that our balcony was blocked shut with a wooden bar from the outside. No one came and no one called to explain. The next day we went out to the front desk to inquire and were told that for the entirety of our stay, the balcony would remain inaccessible due to renovations and painting. But only for rooms in 2 columns of balconies. So we got the short straw. Okay, so my neighbors can access their balconies? Yes. That bit of information would've been pivotal in choosing my stay for this trip before booking a nonrefundable room. The pool area/hot tub would also be unavailable due to renovations. Also the kitchen had some minor cosmetic damage due to cheap remodeling, like covering open spaces and cabinets with some sort of contact cabinet laminate plastic sheeting which was at some point torn by previous guests. Several areas were delaminating from regular use.. The tub, sinks toilet and fixtures had some minor cracks, scratches and mineral or sand damage, as did some furniture and some (beach sand?)stains on the sofa throws. The wifi was unavailable. The entire north tower was blocked because of the renovation. Service...the desk attendants were courteous and helpful as they were able to be given housekeeping does nothing for you till you leave except correct their own mistakes but they seemed uninformed about the lack of access until the next day and had put up a sign regarding the fact which they admitted they were unaware of until that day. About Vacasa...No attempt was made to let us know before booking that our tiny suite would have patio furniture in the way and that the balcony (a major factor in suite selection) and pool would be inaccessible. There was no attempt to apologize for the oversight and no recompense. The room was very competively priced but the information was withheld. The DVD selection they offer as a perk was wholly unremarkable. The area discounts to guests were also underwhelming as they were played up as free access to some 3 attractions which was not the case at all. The free breakfast at Magnolias was the only truth told. They were very good and offered to several resort guests staying in the area. The booking confirmation and check-in data was well done, electronic via SMS and email. About the beach...the beach was public access, not overcrowded and looked clean but it was a cool week for swimming. In our walk, we discovered a couple of drainage tunnels that poured runoff water from somewhere, down over 50 feet of the beach sand and into the ocean and a small sign that this beach was not for swimming due to the bacteria levels. This is right in front of several beachfront resorts! I think the signs should be a bit more obvious as people were swimming oblivious to the tiny signage. Overall it was not a bad stay for the money but it was offensive that our balcony was locked from the outside and furniture in the way besides. Knowing would've changed how we felt about it.

If I could give 1/2 stars it would be 2.5 We stayed at the Carolinian Resort on 10/19 and 10/21, checking out on 10/21. The Carolinian was advertised as the "Host Hotel" of the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon. The Carolinian was UNPREPARED for that amount of traffic. The desk was understaffed (2). They complained to each other that someone (Dana?) had left early. The lady that helped us (she didn't have a name tag, nor did she introduce herself) was more concerned about her daughter in China until she received a phone call about having to work the next day and then spent several minutes having that debate with whomever called instead of telling that person that they lobby was swamped and that they could talk later. Then she proceeded to complain about that. She handed us our packet with no instructions as to where our room was so we traipsed with our luggage all over the place until we finally asked 2 guys leaning on a luggage cart where to go. Evidently they were "bell men" but were not about to help with any enthusiasm unless they could roll your stuff to your room. Once we entered, the space was fine - albeit sparsely and cheaply decorated, but that was ok I guess. It was overpriced for what it was. Having read reviews about terrible housekeeping, we looked around immediately. It seemed OK with the exception of dishes in the dishwasher. Being unsure of their cleanliness, we just left them there. The next morning, we went to cook ourselves some breakfast and found a live roach in the clock of the stove (image attached). My husband went to the front desk. The employee there could not have cared less if she tried. She said maintenance would be up to our room. They never showed. It was also not the only roach we saw. As we were sitting on the couch, we noticed dust and hair on the lower level of the coffee table. Neither of us has gray curly hair. (image attached). Also, after having walked around barefoot on hard flooring for a few, I noticed my feet felt a bit gritty. You can see how absolutely nasty the floor made my feet! It clearly hasn't been mopped in a very long time. Had it been thoroughly mopped prior to our arrival, I doubt my feel would look like they did (image attached) On Saturday morning, housekeeping knocked on the door and asked if we needed anything (?). I did mention that there was zero bar soap anywhere in the place and most of the shampoos, etc. were gone. The housekeeper gave me those items and said, "Here, sign this showing you don't want service"....hhmmm, I don't recall saying I didn't want service, but whatever, she didn't seem like she was in the mood to work anyway. What I wanted was the floor mopped! Also, when my husband went to take a shower in the master, he almost fell because the bottom of the tub was SUPER slick!!! There was nothing non-skid about it. I literally had to grab him, get soaked, and help him sit on the edge of the tub so he could bathe. It was like ICE!! SO DANGEROUS! The second bedroom toilet barely flushed. We had to plunge each time just for liquid waste. As the "Host Hotel" for such a large event, I expected more which is why I paid more to stay there. This was the first time I had done this event, so it was very special to me and my family. Overall, the accommodations and lack of service were in no way worth the money we paid.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE - Check-in was smooth, the lobby was empty. We were immediately greeted with the smell of strong chemicals (not cleaning chemicals though). We reached the elevator to find a note on the wall about K-9 bug infestation checks; this was the moment we should have left. We got to our room, quickly unpacked, and got the kids ready for a night on the beach. We put the AC on 68 degrees to cool the room down; 3 hours later we arrived back at the hotel room and it was hot in the room. We made a complaint, did some other things, and 2 hours later, still no ac. It's 91 degrees outside, so naturally, we complain again. The front desk said they sent maintenance up and acted surprised that he had not been there. 3 hours later, it is now almost 10 pm, and "Jay" with maintenance arrives with a tool bag. He told us he was on lunch and that's why he was not available; cool, everyone has to eat so no big deal. Jay begins work on the AC unit, pulls the unit out...stops, pushes it back in, and says he needs to go get something. He comes back with a can of spray and a vacuum. Mind you, we have never stayed in a location with a bug infestation so the first reaction didn't hit till after Jay left the room. Jay brings the vacuum in, makes sure not to pull the AC unit all the way out, vacuums what I now know to be cockroaches, and then sprays the area so the room "smells better". This smell was Raid, and we all breathed in for hours. 2 of my children my husband, and myself. Jay left, he was nice so I tipped him $20 for his time, and ultimately paid him to spray harsh chemicals in our room. I called the front desk multiple times to complain and even asked to be moved. Latoya, a front desk staff who could use a seminar on customer service, stated there were no rooms available. Mind you we counted each empty room for the 2 horrible nights we were there, counted 33 every night...empty rooms. The hallways smelled like pot, which was not even a concern since you could literally lose your breath from the bug spray. The room, DISGUSTING...I will let the images below show just how amazing their housekeeping is. Nasty faucets, hair and filth all over the floors. Just nasty. We checked out and immediately complained to AirBnB. I asked for a refund of $200 from the $340 charge, to date 8/31/23 I have only been refunded $80. I have reported the hotel and images to the local Health Department and have asked for support from Vacasa - the company that owns the AirBnB. They should be shut down for false advertising and filthy properties.

Had it been thoroughly mopped prior to our arrival, I doubt my feel would look like they did (image attached)

On Saturday morning, housekeeping knocked on the door and asked if we needed anything (?).

Overall, the accommodations and lack of service were in no way worth the...

We booked through luxury beach rentals for condo 2133 which is the penthouse condo. We did not use vacasa or the hotel booking. The condo was perfect for our needs! The check in was easy and seamless for us. The condo was clean and comfortable for our group which was our family of four with two toddlers and our parents. The view was perfect and so nice to take in the sunrises and fireworks at night plus the view of the boardwalk and skywheel. Having the full size kitchen and refrigerator was so nice to be able to cook meals for the kids and not have to eat out every meal. The condo was not “deep” cleaned but wasnt dirty and I felt comfortable staying there. The beds were not very comfortable either but not unbearable. The resort itself was fine for our needs. We are up early and on the beach by 0900 so we had no problem walking straight out of the private beach boardwalk to set up our spot on the beach with the kids which is ideal with the little ones. The pools are nice that there is a whole shaded area with a lazy river and small pool that is heated so our little ones enjoyed playing in after the beach while we could sit on the loungers around and relax as much as you can with a 3 and 1 year old. During the day the pools were not over crowded but in the evening and night it deff was way crowded and no where to sit for the parents. The construction is right next door on the beach and was very loud some days but not every day and we could not hear it from our condo on the 21st floor with the patio door shut. There were condo staff out at all times helping and cleaning. Now the parking to me was the most annoying part but once again not a deal breaker. We have a family member that cannot walk far distances so we have a handicap parking pass and the availability of handicap parking is very limited. There is one handicap spot upfront, and then the parking lot behind the desk is a paid parking lot that we were told you were able to park in with a handicap for free. However, in the middle of the day and evening all of those spots were mostly taken and most days we had to drop off our parents and go park in the garage that is over a block away. The parking garage is about a block and a half from the resort and is not a large vehicle friendly. So we had to park on the top floors and then walk down and then back to the resort anytime we didn’t have a handicap spot available. Once again, not a dealbreaker, but definitely can be annoying after a long hot day. Also, if needing to carry a lot from the car, can also be a lot with the kids though they do allow 15 minute parking upfront next to the elevators to unload and load if there is room and all the spots aren’t taken by other guests. The location is also nice as well as you are close to everything though I don’t know if I would feel comfortable walking with small ones after dark. We also were told by a lady that lives in the resort that windows from vehicles have been busted out for valuables if parked on the street overnight so we did not feel comfortable leaving our truck overnight in the street parking if one was open anyways. Overall, though we had a very good week and I would definitely come back and stay in the area oceanfront for its value and all the things to do for the...
