I’ve had many exceptional steaks but this does not fall into that category. I would not even say this was a great steak…merely acceptably good. I expected much more from this establishment considering the high reviews. Tonight I was here celebrating an engagement and anniversary. Though we typically frequent steakhouses (such as Halls in Charleston and Columbia and Ruth’s Chris) for special occasions, when told about these events, our server Jesse L. continued on with his opening spiel and made it clear that he could not have cared less. We had high hopes and kept trying to keep an open mind. When visiting other establishments for our anniversary, we have been made to feel incredibly special and appreciated for choosing to spend such an occasion at whatever establishment we visited. On top of that feeling, we’ve received a glass of champagne/bottle of champagne on the house and dessert on the house. We truly did not care about receiving anything extra, but at the very least we were expecting true fine dining service. Jesse was not friendly but was merely transactional - I’m not sure if this was due to preconceived notions about what type of table we were, even though we were appropriately dressed, or if this is normal service to a young interracial couple that works locally as an accountant and an attorney. He did manage to sprinkle a few red hearts on the table which would have been a very nice touch had his attitude matched his actions. Our espresso martinis were very delicious and honestly were the best part of the entire experience, besides from the complementary valet and kind hostesses. We ordered the beef carpaccio, the porterhouse for two and a side of half onion rings/half fries. The beef carpaccio was great, though the arugula was soaked in Italian dressing and the dish had balsamic vinaigrette but didn’t advertise it. The quality of the meat for the appetizer was high and it melted in your mouth. The porterhouse was a big disappointment. For the 250 we spent with a 20 percent tip, we expected delicious flavor and top quality meat. Instead what we received was a burnt steak, that actually tasted burnt and lacked flavor. Though being rare, which the cook hit spot on, the New York strip side lacked flavor and was dry. The filet side contained a lot of connective tissue which left an unpleasant feeling in our mouth and also lacked flavor. Around the connective tissue however, the filet meat was very tender. With all of this said, the 130 dollar price tag on the porterhouse, which is comparable to the steakhouses around, was not worth it for such a subpar steak. The onion rings were good and the potatoes were crispy but maybe a bit well done. We’ve experienced much better service and food at other establishments, even ones that were a third of the price all together. We were hoping to have this be a regular date night location, as we’re local, but were incredibly disappointed and don’t think we’ll ever return or recommend this establishment. Though we were very unhappy, we’re typically not ones to complain and still tipped Jesse 20 percent - though we truly don’t think the food or service warranted that. Other positives included Jesse checking to see if our cutlery was clean, Jesse clearing plates promptly, a nice ambiance, the food runners being very kind, the valets being professional and cordial, and the plating being...
Read moreOverall experience was ‘ok’. My fiancé and I were celebrating our 4th anniversary as a couple, and were told multiple times that they pride themselves on making you feel special when you dine with New York Prime. They then proceeded to sit us directly next to the kitchen area where the waitstaff worked on drinks and plating. Which normally wouldn’t be any issue but there wasn’t even a small wall or anything to provide a sound buffer so we heard anything and everything. It was very loud and distracting from what was supposed to be a fine dining experience. We both ordered the 8oz filet, Steak was good but definitely have had much better from other joints nearby and was not worth the cost. My fiancé and I ordered separate apps. I got the onion rings which were not great and had the consistency of corn bread. My fiancé ordered cheese potatoes and received creamed spinach. She hates spinach but I tried it and it was pretty good. The manager actually ended up taking that off the bill without my asking so that was nice. We decided to try the dessert and ordered cheesecake with chocolate sauce and strawberries. We only received chocolate sauce. Server was nice and attentive for the most part (I think the majority of the issues were with the kitchen not getting orders straight). She did end the night by wishing us a happy new year though. Also, almost every time she came by the table she tried to get my to buy another drink even though I already firmly declined the first attempt. I only needed one. As soon as we started eating the dessert they asked for our valet ticket (yes there was complimentary valet but honestly not sure this was worth the trouble). Even though she said it wasn’t them trying to rush us out or anything it still felt very much like we were being ushered out asap. Which was also strange cause we were nothing but cordial the entire time. Brought us our check and that was that.
Definitely will not be returning. We are locals so we know of quite a few incredible places in the area for food that blow this place out of the water. This is not one of them in our opinion. If you are just vacationing and want a good steak then sure check this place out. Locals:...
Read moreWe were an 8 person reservation for 9pm(kitchen closes at 10pm) We were greeted warmly and all got some drinks- ordered family style sides and salads and everyone got their own steak. We got: Stone crab. Garlic shrimps, Wedge salad. Caesar salad. Carpaccio, Oyster rockerfeller. Porterhouse. Two hamburger steaks. Filet of ribeye. Strip.
firstly- the service was great, they were accommodating and patient as they served 8 sundrunk golfers after 36 holes. Old school vibes yet approachable, informative, and attentive.
-but unfortunately the food came out. Rapid fire too. I understand wanting to get the food out so the kitchen can go home, but if that’s the case, close at 9 and not 10… there was a serious seasoning issue, everything was either extremely salty or completely under seasoned. -The stone crab was so overcooked, not cracked properly and unfortunately not fresh tasting at all. the garlic shrimps were probably the best tasting thing we had all night but all the shrimps were so overcooked, super tough and rubbery. our salads were fine, we were told they were massive so we ordered two. Everyone maybe got a half a bite of each. -the carpaccio was lackluster and extremely over seasoned. -the rockerfeller was room temp by the time we got it and the tasted like they were made last week. -and most disappointingly the steaks- my steak was so inappropriately overcooked that it felt like a personal vendetta from one of their line cooks. Two of our guests at the table split a porterhouse, again so over seasoned and under rested and not temped properly. The poor guy with the strip was served a black and blue, untested strip steak that was bathed in salt.
I brought up with the waiter discretely that our experiences with the steaks was unfortunate and incorrect. Unfortunately all he did was apologize and discredit us. If you can’t cook or season steak then why be a steakhouse?
We spent over 1k dollars(would have liked to spend more) and I highly suggest going somewhere else. At least Texas Roadhouse will provided you consistency and a bull to sit on for an affordable price(kills me...
