It’s a very old place like majority places at Myrtle Beach. Don’t get your expectations high. Looks like they keep renovating on the go. They replaced floors in some rooms, updated kitchens in others. The access to some tiny stares and walkways is taped and closed due to hazards. Also some of them simply are no longer up to the codes due to being very narrow. Some rooms are more updated, some are less. We got the one on the back, ocean view non-smoking room 404. The floor is replaced with the newer vinyl planks, which is nicer than it was. But the floor itself is dirty and needs to be actually washed, not just sprayed with something. There is black mold in the bathroom, on a bath tub itself, and it’s so deep in it that only replacing the bathtub would work. The tiny roaches are in the bathroom already, under the sink, which will probably grow within couple weeks into a larger problem. Also there is not enough air circulation in a bathroom, and as soon as you turn on the water in the shower, bathroom turns into a sauna. AC is ice-cold and uncomfortable because it’s either too hot, or ice cold blowing straight at you all night. Beds are rather comfortable, but the linens are stained with large discolored circles. The walls are dirty. I don’t even want to think and elaborate on what that dirt looks like. We had a full kitchenette, that looks freshly painted with white paint, but with the older kind of stove with built in oven. The stove is leaning to one side holding to the wall, like a drunk guy. Full size working fridge has a good size freezer. This room has all the utensils for four people. Also there are 6 cups, enough bowls, plates, pots and pens, coffee maker, microwave, full size kitchen sink - all you would expect from the kitchen is there. The door to the room is dirty, moldy, barely holding on. They have two actual locks requiring two real keys that are little complicated to get hang on. You’ll get them on a large blue diamond in exchange of the DL, that they will make a copy of and give it back to you. But you don’t really need those keys because maintenance will leave the door to your room unlocked, once they take garbage away, and your room will remain unlocked all day till you are back. So do not worry about locking it at all, it won’t matter anyway. Don’t be surprised if you’ll find some random homeless guys going through your staff in the room. Do not forget to bring $100 cash for deposit, even for your 100% prepaid booking and with credit card on file. You cannot be checked-in without that and their ATM is not always working. Balcony sliding door does not work properly, but at least it is always stuck which is actually good. It would prevent your hand getting chopped off. And you will sign and initial this specific paragraph on a paper, that they are not responsible if your hand is injured by the balcony door, which is actually heavy. Good thing is that balcony has perfect view of the ocean and we loved it. No tea or coffee, little bit of shampoo and soap, couple towels - all you’ll get. No hairdryer is provided, no safe, but enough hangers that you probably won’t use. There are washers and dryers downstairs for guests to use. Parking is complicated. The whole hotel is like a maze that you have to figure out. Once you did - it’s all good. Corridors are horrible and dirty, elevators too. Watch your steps because all the floors have holes and bumps. Swimming pools are clean. There is even one that is 7-8 feet deep. Overall it’s a solid 2 stars hotel that is priced accordingly, but don’t leave any valuables inside. Location is great. If you planning on spending all your vacation inside the room - do not book this one. If you need a room to sleep and are planning your day fun outdoors, then this is a decent place for that. You can cook there all you want, have a good swim in a clean pool (yes, their pools are clean, much cleaner than at many other hotels. They are spending time on cleaning the areas). Beach was nice. We spent Memorial weekend there, three nights stay,...

My boyfriend and I visited the Polynesian Friday, 3/15 - Sunday, 3/17. If you're an avid visitor to Myrtle Beach you know and understand that Myrtle Beach is an old, tourist town. Most of the (2 - 3 star) beachfront hotels on the strip are old and have been there since the 60's & 70's. Many of which have not been remodeled but over the years have been through room renovations including the Polynesian. That's evident upon arrival. Upon checking in, there were (2) young ladies checking people in. We booked our room through Priceline as I usually do with all my Myrtle Beach hotels. When it was my turn to be assisted the lady immediately ask me for the ID for any adult staying in the room. She stated they could not rent the room (despite having a PAID reservation) without having a copy of every adult in the room. I explained I'd have to go back to the car and get my boyfriend's ID as he waited in the car. Before I walked out she also mentioned because I booked third-party (Priceline) I'll have to provide a $100 CASH deposit. I asked could I use my debit card and she said it HAD to be cash. But the kicker was their ATM in the lobby was out of service. She recommended going next door to the Captain's Quarters to use theirs. At this point BEFORE CHECKING IN I'm now on a short adventure. We get in the car, drive next door only to realize THEIR ATM WAS OUT OF SERVICE TOOOO!! Smh!! At this point I'm outraged as I now have to go to the bathroom after the long 3-Hour drive to get to Myrtle Beach. After driving around for a few more minutes we manage to get to a Food Lion grocery store and get the cash (and bathroom) we need. We get back to the Polynesian, I have the $100 CASH and both our IDs and I proceed to go back and get checked in. The lady at desk checks me in, takes the $100 bill and puts it into a envelope, I sign the paper, she hands me the keys and we finally we're done! We get assigned to room 208 on the 2nd floor. The room clearly has been renovated. It had 2 Queen Beds and a small kitchenette, stove & refrigerator. All your basic necessities and toiletries were provided. Our room was right over the seasonal outdoor pool. Again, if you know, you know! The room is OLD. The hotel is even OLDER. DO NOT come to this hotel expecting the Four Seasons. Before settling in the room we sanitized EVERYTHING and dressed the bed with our own linen from home. As we dressed the bed and inspected the room we did find 1 Bed Bug on the box spring of the mattress. THANKFULLY it was already dead and we didn't see any others. The view from the balcony (on the 2nd floor) is good. When we were in the room, most of our time was spent on the balcony so we saw a lot of things. While the outdoor pool appeared to be closed due to the season (and obviously cold temperatures) it still got a lot of action. Throughout our stay, so many things were thrown off balconies and into the pool. From chicken wings, to constant spit flying, cigarettes, etc. If we weren't in a position to actually SEE these things landing in the pool it would have been easy to blame the dirty pool on the hotel while in all actuality it's the horrible guest(s) who stay there. At around 5am on Sunday 3/17 we were awakened by one of our neighbors banging and yelling on the door down the hall. It was some kind of altercation that sounded as if the police were involved but we chose to mind our own business. The hotel itself wasn't horrible I just think that a big part of the condition(s) of the hotel is based a lot on who's staying at the hotel.

I know this review is long but if I can help it I probably will not stay at the Polynesian again. There were just too many horrible guests around us that made our stay very...

I initially booked my stay through booking and they won’t allow me to give them a review. I’ve not received an invite to review them yet.

But let’s get to it. Starting with the nice things. The location is great. The views were amazing. There were 2 pools( 1 inside and 1 outside) and a splash pad for littles. The outdoor pool was our favorite, it was very clean and I did see them clean it once while we were there 5 days. But the pool stayed crystal clear. The indoor pool smelt too strong and it was overwhelming hot. Probably because of the sauna and the pool was heated. The splash pad was ok. The only downfall for me was that it was in the parking lot so there was constantly people walking by.

We had an ocean front room on the 2nd floor in the back building and overall it was a perfect room for a small family of 3. But we were constantly bumping into each other. The room was very tiny with 2 beds. The room was equipped with the works(stove, fridge, dishes). The bathroom was so tiny that in order to get to the shower you had to stand or straddle the toilet to shut the door to gain access to get in. But the bathroom was nice other than the compact space.

The beach stayed pretty empty until the night. The first night I quickly realized this was a party hotel, so there were a ton of 25ish young adults constantly partying. Of the night they would sit on their balcony’s and scream and harass people on the beach. Technically not the hotels fault but it shouldn’t have happened more than 1 night.

FYI IF YOU BOOK ON A 3RD PARTY SITE THERE IS A $100 CASH ONLY DAMAGE DEPOSIT REQUIRED UPON CHECK IN. Normally wouldn’t be an issue but it’s need to know info upon arrival. There is an atm in the lobby but only allows $60 max withdraw.

They said it’s stated in the fine print. I finally found it but you have to click 3 different see mores to even see it.

You do get the deposit back during check out but you have to sit and wait for housekeeping to check your room. Kinda cringe. But it’s whatever. We ended up having to wait an hour bc the maid claimed there were dirty dishes in the sink. They were clean, just didn’t have anywhere to set them to dry. So heads-up make sure your used dishes are clean, dried and put away.

The staff was very very rude. Every single one of them except the receptionist working when I went down to add on 2 more nights. But Ofcoarse they’re going to be nice then.

Also I don’t know if this is a thing in Myrtle beach with every hotel but a DL is required to be on file for every person over the age of 25 staying in the room. This was a first for me but also my first time in Myrtle beach. So idk.

The Hotel needs major renovations and repairs though. The door keys are actual keys and was annoying and takes a bit to get in the hang of unlocking the right way. But it didn’t even matter if you locked it or not. If housekeeping came while you were gone they’d leave our door unlocked. Also the doors aren’t very sturdy, I was constantly laying awake watching the door bc you can clearly see where the doors have been broken into with crow bars. Sketch AF.

I was constantly triggered while in the room bc there was no broom and there was constant sand in the floor. Bc duh beach. Even after spraying off you’d still bring sand in. And housekeeping never had a broom. I even went and asked for one. They said housekeeping would sweep but no one ever did.

I don’t recommend this hotel for families it’s basically a party hotel. For 5 nights it costed us around $500. Not bad but just book the resort tour looking at. It may be a bit more but it’s worth it. The entire atmosphere of this hotel is...

Our travel agent forgot to book our preferred hotel so without our knowledge she booked us at the Polynesian. I read the reviews and thought, it doesn't sound great but sometimes people exaggerate on negatives so we went there to check it out. We show up and it is definitely outdated for sure but didn't want to judge by the outside and lobby, We did have to pay a $100 deposit, cash only. Plus an $18/night resort fee (also cash only), neither of which did we have to pay at our final hotel. So, we get the room keys, I say that because it is old school 2 keys on the diamond shape tag. Turns out our 2nd floor room is ground level, has a deadbolt and locking knob, hence the need for two actual keys. Open the door and there are two full beds when we booked a king and it smelled of chlorine as the pool is right out the other side. Additionally, the main door didn't shut correctly and it was a very dingy/dirty little room. Nope, the wife isn't having it as this was a surprise trip for my birthday. Ok, back to the lobby and ask for my $226 cash back while she is calling the travel agent. I hear the receptionist telling someone on the phone that all the bad reviews are because of some hateful guests last year that put up repeated bad reviews. I looked down at the check in desk and noticed the list which I posted in the pictures. Turns out that bed bugs are a Code 5, Roaches are a Code 3 and Mold is a Code 1 according to the small list in the photo! Do most hotels need codes for these types of situations? Is it such a common problem that we need Codes for it? I guess I would hope not in most of the hotels I would like to stay at! I hope that the pile of furniture (see pics) in the underground parking was due to remodeling not due to bed bugs or any other type of bug or mold. This is the small pile, the other side was all chairs and couches. And while I don't care if people smoke weed I wouldn't want someone smoking it in the hallway as I almost got a contact high while walking back out to our car. Sorry for the long review but I try to read reviews and then use a few grains of salt but I have to say it seems most of the negatives were correct on this one. I would like to say that in the beginning the front desk staff was a little snippy with my wife, she wasn't excited about the hotel the moment we arrived, but the staff did refund all the cash I had given her 15 minutes before and was pleasant when I said we would seek other accommodations. We went up the street to the Sandy Beach Resort and all was good!

This review is not for the faint of heart—because neither was my stay. I checked into the Polynesian Oceanfront Hotel on April 9 at exactly 4 PM. Stephen at the front desk was polite and professional—shoutout to him for being the last thing that made sense during this entire stay. Right after that, it went downhill fast. We were slapped with an unexpected $100 cash-only deposit because we booked through Booking.com. In 2025. Cash only. Like it’s a speakeasy. Had to use the busted little ATM in the lobby just to check in. We spent $250 for 4 days and 3 nights, and it felt like I paid to audition for an episode of Hotel Hell: Extreme Edition. Let’s run the highlights: • No heat in the room when we arrived. Maintenance showed up hours later after we layered up like it was Antarctica. • Only one TV in a split room. Not family-friendly, just family-feud inducing. • The peep hole was so wide, you could poke your entire finger through it. We taped it shut like we were prepping for a storm. • The floors were uneven and creaky, like a haunted funhouse minus the fun. • The toilet wouldn’t flush unless we manually added water. Yes, like pioneers. • The shower had two options: cold and lukewarm. Hot water didn’t even wave at us. • The AC unit was mounted so high it required Olympic-level reach to adjust it. • The only outlet that worked was in the bathroom. So we had to use the microwave and coffee maker beside the toilet. Health codes? Never heard of ’em. • The kitchen had ZERO outlets. Not one. Just vibes and disappointment. • We were handed two actual metal keys. Not keycards. Not digital. Literal jangly keys from a motel thriller. • There was a steep step walking into the room, which is just begging to trip a toddler or twist an ankle. Be careful if you have kids or knees. • The hot tub was just a bathtub trying its best. Warm at best. Sad always. • And the final straw? One of the beds folded in on itself when we laid down. Not broke down—folded. Like it was giving up right along with me. This wasn’t a vacation—it was a trust exercise I did not sign up for. Would I ever stay again? Absolutely not. I wouldn’t even let my worst enemy book this room. They say you get what you pay for… but in this case, we paid and still got played. And yes—I have photos, videos, and trauma to back it all up.
