My experience here could've been much better because it was within the ability of the staff. We booked this hotel through a booking site last minute, access to the beach was great. I arrived later and my party mentioned doing some cleaning and to register my car. I went to the desk and registered and received a window decal and placed it on my mirror. We decided on something to eat and found a coupon in our door. We ordered and aaked the staff(Manager) about the brochure. He stated do not order from this place because their not legitimate businesses, they are possibly made in someone's garage. And if they came there he wouldn't let them on the property. Surprised, we asked why there were no signs posted. He said they had been ordered. Our pizza arrived but we were afraid to eat it now. The manager caught the delivery person on the site and handled him in a manner I didn't feel appropriate for a business establishment in the presence of guest. We were leaving and noticed other guests inquiring about the same brochures in their door. We advised against it. The next morning I woke up to find my car missing. I quickly reported to the staff, she searched the night log to find out my car had been towed. Needless to say I was furious as I am a registered guest in this hotel and its clearly stated in the log. She could tell me why, but made some calls and told me the manager would reimburse me the fee when he got in later. I paid $160 cash to get my car to find the decal on the floor. I advised the staff of this and asked how this cold happen to registered guests and why there was no policy to atleast notify us since there is a description of the cars. She had no answer but was apologetic. I asked for another decal to place in my rear window and the front view visibly. The manager arrived later and I approached regerding the reimbursement. He denied telling her he would reimburse me. Needless to say I wasn't happy and but knew no other solution at that moment. That nite our young adults went out to enjoy the scenery when they arrived back there was no parking available so they were told to park accross the street and another location clearly marked the "THE REEF". They were told they had to be out by a certain time the next morning but charged a fee. We asked why they were charged and told they shouldn't have been. The next business day we traced to find elevated management but to no avail. The attitude was very nonchalant and we were out of nearly $200 for their screw up. Needless to say I have no intentions on ever visiting this establishment again. I hope this...
Read moreI am not usually one to write reviews, but my experience at The Reef Resort was definitely noteworthy but for all the wrong reasons. First of all when we arrived, we were greeted by a very warm room. After checking the a/c for temperature, it was almost 80 degrees in the room. We attempted to adjust the temp but to no avail. We then began to clean the room to our own personal satisfaction because that's what we do wherever we stay. So bringing out the disinfectant wipes, we saw that there was black mold around the kitchen faucet and coffee stains (not from us) on the counter tops and the kitchen sink was not clean at all. Neither was the refrigerator or the dishes. All of the pots and pans had to be re-washed just to the naked eye. There was caked-on food and stains that made us decide to wash everything in the cupboards. My sister disinfected the bathroom which was less than stellar but manageable. After two hours in the room, we realized that the temp was not getting any cooler, but actually getting warmer. We made a call to the front desk and they advised that maintenance went home at 11pm and that we would have to wait til tomorrow for any relief. I asked for fans and he said no. I asked to be moved and he said that due to booking, if we moved tonite, we would have to move again the following day. With 2 kids and 2 adults and lots of stuff, that was not an option. The front desk clerk did eventually come up and try to rectify the situation himself, but to no avail. We opened the balcony door for immediate relief. This decision would eventually lead to multiple mosquito bites to all in the room but I'll get to that later. Because I suffer from asthma, I went on a seek-and-find quest for fans because the front desk confirmed that they had none to loan. This mission took me 20 miles or more out of the way and added an additional expense of over $60! All this coupled with bloody comforters, shoes from a previous guest, and no housekeeping service on Saturday or Sunday, led to an unsatisfactory stay. I am all for frugality and minimalism, but this was ridiculous! I didn't HATE my stay because the staff that I did encounter was very personable and pleasant, but the housekeeping and general upkeep was less than desired. I had light fixtures in my room that had caked on dust and the hood above the stove had grease caked on it.The oven was dirty and smelled terribly from spillage from previous guests. Would I stay again at The Reef, probably not, but I am always willing to give a second chance if they are willing to show that these were...
Read moreWe have vacationed to south myrtle beach for the last 10years. We booked this hotel as last resort because we waited too late to get reservations this year. We looked at room when we got there and it looked nothing like the pics online (will read reviews next time). Room was horribly outdated/neglected/smelled of urine, couch was wet with moisture, balcony door would not open, and carpet not fit to walk on barefooted. Also stove eyes were so dirty inside we were afraid it would catch fire when cooking. For the price for the week it should have been a lot better. This is the type hotel u rent by the hour!!! We told management we didn't want the room. Per cancelation policy we would forfeit our deposit which was 242$ as we did not cancel 14days in advance. We still would have done it but called 10 other hotels and no one had vacancies as it 4th of July week. We stayed. Air conditioning unit had to be replaced 1st night, balcony door was lubed only to tear up again worse than before by 2nd night. 1 of the 2 elevators they had for the whole hotel tore up 1st day, waited forever. It broke again on day 3. Elevator alarms rang for over an hour. Housekeeping only cleans once midweek! When they did come mid week to put on fresh linens the mattress was scooted and we saw what appeared to be dried VOMIT all over the corner of bed skirt. Worse part is management could care less. Went to front desk to see if anyone had turned in a drivers license that was lost and the manager Phil wouldnt even get off butt from office to ask what we needed. He hollered "yes?" and replies "no" when we asked. Didn't even look up from his computer screen. Then get a letter from management saying the whole hotel would be without water from 11-3 for repairs. Multitude of things went wrong but would have been more acceptable had staff/management been the slightest bit apologetic or even nice for that matter. Only good things I can say about the hotel was : 1 maintenance man chuck was extremely nice and personable. Good pool area with a DJ on weekends and the hotel restaurant Mako's had great food and friendly staff. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the are unrelated to the hotel and are under different management. And they hold a security deposit like u could mess up the...
