I strongly encourage any patient (current or potential) to read this review in its entirety. Thank you in advance for your time.
This was undeniably the worst experience I have ever had at any blood lab whatsoever, and especially at this specific Quest Diagnostics location (314 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10014).
In advance, I scheduled an appointment online through the MyQuest app for Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 8:10am. I arrived at approximately 8:00am for the appointment, and was "greeted" by the security guard at the front desk in the building lobby. As I entered the lobby, the security guard said to me "You are not going upstairs, Quest is not open yet. He (meaning the lab technician) is running late." When I asked the security guard if he had any specific details as to when the technician might be arriving, he responded back "I already told you he's running late. It could be 10 minutes, it could be 20 minutes, I have no idea. You can look for another appointment at a different location if you want, or go walk around outside." Evidently, the lab technician and the security guard were in contact with each other that morning.
Since it was very cold out on the morning of Saturday, December 7th, I decided to wait in the lobby. The lab technician arrived at approximately 8:30am, 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment. The security guard said "Hey brother" to the lab technician as the technician arrived. The security guard accompanied the lab technician in the elevator to the 3rd floor (location of the Quest lab), and then the security guard returned down to the lobby and said to me and two other female patients waiting, "You all can go upstairs now."
I have had my blood drawn in the past by this specific lab technician at this Quest location at 314 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10014 (I do not know his name) several times in the past, as I go for routine bloodwork every 3 months. While I find that this technician is never warm or friendly, and typically exudes little to no bedside manner, I have not had any specific issues with him drawing my blood in the past, other than the fact that he barely interacts with the patients and he does not demonstrate a warm, welcoming, or friendly demeanor.
When me and the 2 other female patients arrived at the Quest lab on the 3rd floor, the lab technician was in the kitchen making what appeared to be coffee or tea for himself. He offered no apology or explanation to me or the two other female patients for being 20 minutes late to the lab. He did not greet us or say "Good Morning." Conversely, as he exited the kitchen area, he blurted out in a loud and rude tone "Absolutely no walk-ins today, it's Saturday!" As previously mentioned, I had a scheduled appointment for 8:10am, but one of the female patients was a walk-in patient, and she politely asked the lab technician if there was any chance she could be seen by him if he had some available time. He cut her off and said in a loud tone "No, absolutely not!"
At that point, he proceeded to walk down the corridor to his lab station, and he yelled down the hallway for me by calling my name and saying "Come to Room #4." The rest of the session proceeded normally, the technician drew my blood in accordance with my doctor's prescription, and I exited the lab and the building.
I find it appalling that this sort of behavior from a health care "professional" would be tolerated, or that a lab technician of this demeanor would be allowed to interact with patients. Most patients are only seeking to have their blood drawn in an efficient and pain-free manner, as having bloodwork drawn is not by nature a pleasant experience. I do hope this review is read and taken seriously, and that this lab technician is held accountable for his attitude and...
Read moreHi all. I realize that human nature is to is to "share" with everyone/anyone possible, when one has experienced less than satisfactory "service". Much more so than a positive or pleasant experience. However, I've read most of the reviews, and stopped. Talk about petty, privileged, and entitled, attitudes. The elevator is slow, I agree. I understand that you have a 0% fat physique, but if that's a problem for you, take the stairs, I have. It's not a 37 floor building. They take 8:00 appts, but don't open till 8:00. I don't like it either, but now we know, PLAN for it. Many of us have work benefits. Thankfully, I do. Including sick/medical time. Of which I am still paid, if I am having Lab Work done. You're not? Some locations have Saturday hours. And the last of my "rant"...STEVE! OMG, you need a reality check! YES, this is health care. You come in, roll up your sleeve, have your blood drawn...AND LEAVE. THAT'S IT! I am as human as you are. I have lost beloved members of my family as well. I am sorry for your loss. Please understand that Quest is not responsible for your inability to find the "No Pets Allowed" sign. The building is a MEDICAL FACILITY. Even diners have rules regarding pets. BTW: I am VERY thankful to live in a country that has care available. The kind that does not require me to walk 3 days, to wait for 3 more days, to be seen by a Doctor W/O borders. Bottom line...count your blessings, and be thankful. An amazing woman, professional, and kind, took my blood today. I'm not sure about this visit, but I've had 13 vials taken before, it was around that (maybe). I regret not knowing how to spell her name. But pronounced "Kee-ma". She is Professional, and kind in every...
Read moreI usually go to the E. 22nd location, but picked the W. 14th location because it offered appointments, and the web info states that 'walk-ins are welcome but appointments take priority'. I also picked the first hour of the day because of info on the site that stated this time was reserved for folks over 60, and those with compromised systems. I got there at approx. 8:20, found that there was a person sitting in the lobby who helped with check-in (so far so good). There were at least 5 other groups there. I checked in and sat down. Another client was complaining to the lab employee (not sure what the appropriate title is) that walk-ins were being taken before him, even though he had an appointment and had arrived on-time. The employee responded that appointments were not given priority, which is contrary to the info on the web. After that I noticed that there was a screen in the waiting area that listed the order of names, all of whom had appointments (according to the screen), My name was first and a 5 minute wait was indicated. 12 minutes later I was called. In that 12 minutes at least 2 people were called in whose names were not on the screen. In addition, a person came into the waiting area, took her mask off and began to talk on the phone. After finishing her call she went up to the lobby assistant and had a brief conversation, without her mask. Good thing I took the time to make an appointment, go out of my way, so that I could be treated this...
