I have heard about this Persian restaurant and I wanted to come here for a long time. COVID delayed me for a while-until tonight. I have very mixed feelings about this place so I’m going to break it down and let you decide for yourself. Let’s start with the reservation. we made a reservation in advance which was very helpful and I would say that was a good experience. Usually when you go to authentic restaurants you do not receive the standard American service and you experience a lot of miscommunication because of the language barrier or general mismanagement which was not the case here, so here is the first kudos. When we got here I was impressed with their beautiful modern Persian design which was very thoughtful and coherent. As we arrived, our table was ready and the hostess was expecting us and called us by name. We have been greeted very quickly by the server and I started looking at the menu. I ordered Baba Jafar which was a bourbon drink and as a whiskey drinker I was very impressed by it. It was a smoky and yet sweet well-balanced bourbon drink! My wife ordered albaloo surprise which was delicious as well. We ordered Barg kebab, Joojeh kebab and lamb shank for entrée. They had the option to have half salad and half rice with a kebab for additional three dollars. My mom was also there with us and ordered a special type of Persian salad called Shirazi. I am usually very critical of Persian rice and they nailed it perfectly. It was a very well cooked fluffy basmati rice and I got excited when I saw the ‘saffron’ on the top. No wait, after I tried it I realized that’s just food coloring and I was instantly turned off because it was not saffron and it was either artificial food coloring or artificial saffron or a combination of both. The barg was cooked to perfection and tasted very good. Koobedeh was tasty but had a lot of pepper in it which is not customary to authentic Koobideh, but you may like it. Joojeh kebab was cooked very well and juicy so no complaints there. The lamb shank was OK but the sauce was not impressive at all (expected more flavor). The shirazi salad was not authentic either, to the point that my American wife spotted the errors. The mint was replaced with parsley and there was not enough of lime juice in it. Overall I cannot decide between three stars and four but I am more towards four stars and wish the owner luck and I believe they have a...

I recently embarked on a culinary adventure to Meydoon, a Persian restaurant nestled in the heart of Sacramento. Let me tell you, the atmosphere was an absolute dream. Think warm, inviting vibes with a touch of exotic flair. The staff was incredibly friendly, and our waitress added a delightful touch with her pleasant interaction.
Now, onto the main event: the food! I dove headfirst into the chicken kabab with rice, and let me tell you, it was to die for, OMG! The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a symphony of spices, expertly balanced and incredibly satisfying. This dish is a must-try for any chicken kabab enthusiast.
However, the kobedeh (ground beef kabab) wasn't quite as heavenly. While it was decent, I've had better versions elsewhere. The seasoning felt a touch muted compared to the vibrant chicken kabab.
Overall, Meydoon gets a big thumbs up and a five star because of the chicken! The amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, and the divine chicken kabab make it a worthwhile experience. Just be a bit more cautious with the kobedeh – it might not live up to the same level of amazingness.
Here's my breakdown:
Atmosphere: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Warm, inviting, and exotic) Staff: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Friendly and attentive) Chicken Kabab: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (To die for!) Kobedeh: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Decent, but not their strongest offering) Final Verdict: A must-visit for Persian food enthusiasts, especially if you love kababs! Just be a bit more selective with your order. The interior is aesthetically beautiful... magazine cover worthy beautiful. Each table has a fresh flower arrangement. Plus the customer service provided by Sergio ( I think that was my waiter's name) was exemplary... attentive, friendly service with a smile. Even with a packed house, my food came out relatively quick for a sit down experience
Maydoon serves up Persian cuisine. I ordered the Koobedeh Taste of Maydoon lunch. $19. It comes with a choice of ground sirloin or ground chicken skewer served with mast khiar (yougurt with cucumbers),salad, pitta, hummus, and basmati rice. I choose the ground sirloin. Even the serving plates were aesthetically beautiful having a casual earthy style blending in well with the decor and design theme.
Oh my goodness... my eyes bugged out of my head when the plates were presented. The skewer serving was larger than what I thought it would be. To be honest, the entire amount of food was larger than I anticipated. The ground sirloin had a great grind giving it a denser texture, but still substantial. I liked the seasonings, not overpowering. Their signature salad dressing was delicious. They even sell jars of it $6. The basmati rice was fresh and fluffy. The pita was served warm. The hummus was creamy, smooth. The mast khiar was outstanding. Cool and refreshing. I am lactose intolerant but was able to enjoy this without any tummy aches.
Maydoon is in the midtown area so the parking garage is all street metered. Tip: metered fees and time zone regulations are not enforced on Sundays. At least currently it is not, you may check the City Parking...
