I highly recommend this hotel. I frequently stay with Marriott because of the consistency of service, and this was no exception. We were in room 122. There was no "suite" to our room--it was a double queen with a fridge/micro. No extra seating or divided areas; maybe king rooms have them? The room, grounds and facilities are clean and really great. Large landscaped area with paths and several seating areas with couches, chairs and umbrellas make places to lounge, read a book, enjoy a drink besides just the pool area. Breakfast was excellent and varied. One of the better expanded breakfasts. Varied choices including veggie sausage, watermelon, fresh strawberries, omelettes, bacon, waffles, oatmeal and all the regular choices for cereal, breads, juices. Coffee was good and multiple options for cream (including almond milk). Lots of seating, including a patio. Not crowded at 6:30 a.m., can't speak to later in the morning. Everything was ready to go at 6 a.m. including the hot foods. This is a rarity in my experience and very nice for people needing to be out early. It should start earlier because many flights leave around 6 or 6:30 a.m. and people need to be at airport before 6 a.m. but for non-fliers it's probably fine. Good free internet. Beds comfortable, rooms very clean, good lighting, good decor, hallway carpets seemed clean and not worn (a biggie for me). Suitcase rack in room nice for heavy bags. Good iron and dryer (we used both). Bath amenities not great quality, but you do have shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Shower/tub very clean with shelving, good pressure and temp. Towels very good, including pool towels. Fridge worked well. In-room coffee service poor as usual (hey, Marriott, no one uses powdered creamer anymore), but there's lobby coffee and the breakfast room opens at 6 a.m. Pretty quiet overall, some noise from walking in the room above and from the hallway through the space under the door, but not a biggie. Light leakage from the hall was an issue for the far bed. Several food options right next to the hotel: Starbucks, Hawaiian food, Subway, Pizza and Dog place. Pizza was good but expensive ($5 for a side salad, $13 for a small, 2 topping 9-inch pizza. Crust and toppings good quality and place was clean too). Starbucks closes early so be aware if you want an evening beverage. Chevron gas station right next door for rental cars. Close to the airport (5 minutes including stop lights) but not...
Read moreI know San Jose well. Hotels are expensive. If you are looking for a clean, simple stay, this will fit the bill. If you're looking for a place you're going to hang out for days, might not be for you. Although they do have a beautiful courtyard and pool! The location is very near the airport. In fact if you can walk & have only a rolling carry-on, it's an easy less than a mile walk. They also have an airport shuttle. That said, I wouldn't walk there after dark. San Jose has issues - here and throughout the city. Many, many homeless - many of whom have issues besides being homeless. Unless far from Downtown, there aren't areas in the city where you are away from the issues. This hotel is located between the two casinos in San Jose. Not only is it near the airport, it is a short (5-10min) light rail ride from Downtown San Jose and near two major freeways if you are driving. However, they have many rooms set way back from the road that are amazingly quiet. If you do have a car, parking is free. There are signs around that indicate you should remove all valuables etc...again, I would recommend you take that advise wherever you are in San Jose. There is a security service that patrols the parking lot at night. There are a variety of places to pick up food just outside the hotel. The complimentary hotel breakfast is typical 'Fairfield Inn' - hot and plentiful.||The building was probably built in the 60s. It has been extensively updated. It is a couple of stories. They do have elevators and the rooms open to an interior hallway. You can request a room that looks out on the courtyard if you don't want to overlook the parking lot.||Knowing San Jose well, we will opt to stay here when we are in town. Although the City has issues, the hotel has mitigated them as best they can. It's a reasonably priced, well-run hotel in a good location if you are doing a lot out and about in the South...
Read moreOverall, very sketchy guests and random transients and druggies wandering through the parking lot, and there was with cigarette butts and other junk everywhere. I also discovered cockroaches. Normally, I would settle complaints with the management, but I feel that potential guests will want to know this information and I’m not sure how sincere the hotel staff is about the problems. I booked two rooms for one night for friends and family. because I have special elite status with Marriott I was able to set up early check-in. On the app, we even were able to specify the exact time we would be arriving which was noon. However, this was not fulfilled and we had to wait about three hours for a room. When I went to check that everything was OK in the room for our younger female friend I open the door to find a so-called maintenance man sitting on the bed watching TV while there was wet, paint, equipment, and caulking laying around. We waited for him to finish. He still left a tag on the door that maintenance might come back. So then I had to go back to the front desk and make sure he wasn’t returning. finally back at the room I found there was fresh caulking all over the edges of the shower and elsewhere in the bathroom. It was still wet and it was obvious that he was covering up mold. There was also mold above the TV on the ceiling. He must have also sprayed some kind of chemical because it smelled really bad. We heard at least two domestic disputes going on in other rooms and it looks like this place might be receiving government money to house vagrants and transients. When I had to go check on my car, there was a sketchy dude looking at all the cars. As I walked around the corner, several cockroaches ran from my flashlight. The police had to come twice while we were there. I suspect that some of the hotel management might be aware or possibly involved in whatever sketchiness...
