Avila Guest House — Hotel in San Juan

Pros: Location is amazing. The beach is close by (5-7 min walk) and so are a number of restaurants and cafes. The room is comfortable and spacious and was clean for most parts (found a used mascara under the bed though) . Check-in/check-out process is seamless. Doors have entry codes.

Cons: They do not pick up the phone, you have to communicate via the app through which you booked and the reply is extremely slow. On the second day of stay, found a baby lizard on the floor next to my bed (the room was on 3rd floor, not on ground floor) and soon after started noticing roaches in the bathroom. It gets a bit too noisy, not just because of noisy neighbors but also because the rooster or rather roosters start crowing at 4am. Parking is limited. They have just 3 parking spaces so it can be difficult finding the parking. Wifi among the apartments is shared so you can control what is being cast on the tv over the wifi in the other room (which i found very odd and didn't seem...

We had a decent experience staying at the Avila Guesthouse. The staff was pretty friendly and responsive. However, we had a few issues - The main door didn't lock from the inside, the bathroom door didn't lock at all, and the AC unit was leaking water when we tried to turn it off. There was no exhaust inside the bathroom that made it more stuffy and difficult to use. The sofa bed is comfortable but only for a smaller person. There was also some construction going on outside the property and we were able to hear everything inside as there was no proper insulation. My boyfriend and I are staying here as I write this review , we are only on day 1 but satisfied with the experience so far. We are staying in the oenthouse apt w. the huge balcony only for us. Onpy complaint I have is a broken window shade and the power went out for maybe 1 min but because of the backup generator it lasted for less than 1 min.
