Lack luster food experience !! We made this weekend trip to Savannah for my Lady's birthday.. August 16-18 We or rather I.. chose this restaurant August 17, on her special day.. for our seafood experience. Being this close to the coast.. I really expected something better than Captain D's. We were sat immediately.. within smelling range of the restrooms.. I don't sit next to or close to anyones restroom when I'm eating !! They did however correct the situation and accommodated us by moving us further away from the restroom to a proper eating area.. thus satisfying me.. But we should have probably left as soon as my lady went into the restroom and let out a "eew", explaining that the restroom smelt like "piss".. and so did the mens restroom. Washing our hands, we sat down to enjoy what we thought.. was going to be an amazing seafood experience.. totally not.. My lady.. ordered the fried fish and shrimp platter and I started with the shrimp and crab bisque and a half a dozen shucked oysters.. The shrimp and crab bisque was delicious.. superb.. a culinary experience.. smooth, creamy, and full of the flavor of shrimp and crab meat.. with that briny flavor of the sea.. exactly what I was looking for.. my lady liked it too.. The oysters.. were lacking.. to say the least. These were not grade A oysters.. probably more of a low quality B.. size was severely lacking.. large shell.. small/tiny oyster flesh.. none of the oysters juices remained in the half shell.. nor was the oysters flesh completey severed from a shell.. for that ease of simply picking up the shell.. and sipping that sweet ocean flavor directly onto my palate. That didn't happen.. Finally, our main dishes came.. her fried fish and shrimp platter.. and my blackened grouper topped with a creamy sauteed spinach mixture/puree over a bed of rice.. I explained to the server at the time of ordering.. to serve the blackened grouper separately.. I didn't want anything covering, disguising, the look, the smell, or the texture and the overall taste of fish.. When the grouper came out.. the sauteed spinach mixture was to the side.. the fish.. was plainly sitting on top of the bed of rice.. a very dry bed of rice .. it twas.. indeed.. Removing the fish from this very dry bed of rice.. to a separate plate.. I proceeded to inspect what I had just purchased with disappointment.. No blackened seasoning was visible to be seen by mine eyes on the fish.. only a graying of the flesh around the edges.. Thus.. proceeding to sample and eat the fish without salting or peppering it.. so as to taste the overall flavoring of the fish.. to describing the overall flavor and taste of this piece of fish... in one word.. I would call it.. "bland" .. looked and tasting like an unseasoned piece of baked fish.. absolutely no sear to the fish.. whatsoever The spinach sauce.. that was to top this piece of lackluster fish.. to cover its blandness.. was "unadventurous" I would not recommend this dish to anyone The dish is mostly.. dryed rice.. topped with a small piece of baked fish.. price.. $35 Also ordered a sausage rice side dish.. Highly forgettable.. one sampling by the each of us.. to taste and pushed away to the side.. Overall experience.. I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my family, friends, nor enemies when visiting...

Food -- this has become an annual tradition for our family trip on the way into Tybee because the food is so good!! We split an order of peel and eat boiled shrimp and a dozen oysters. These were fantastic!! Oysters were big and clean with all the accoutrements available and included. Tasty and yummy. The peel and eat shrimp were also excellent with flavorful butter and cocktail sauce to add to them. Also got a cup of lobster and crab bisque and it was gone, oh in about 4 minutes! Boys food was also eaten up quick with a main entree of a chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese. Some seafood restaurants treat their chicken sandwich as a toss away item, but not here. It was as good as many main chicken places. Kids entrees were fried shrimp and mac and cheese and those were a gobbled up quick! Only complaint (which is reaching)....only available hot sauce is Texas Pete, at a seafood restaurant on the ocean....what? Please grab some Louisiana, Tabasco and Crystal.
Drinks -- sodas and tea for most of us, but one of us got one of their famous Artillery Punch and it was magical!! Many tasty ingredients in this specialty drink that make it super! And as a added bonus you get to take home your very own cool Artillery Punch glass.
Service -- kind, friendly, and prompt. We happened to come at a down time when it wasn't super crowded but our waitress was great. May get crowded at certain times, but worth the wait.
Vibes -- non-pretentious seafood restaurant on River Street. Got a lot of charm and you can tell it's been an establishment in business for awhile . Reminds you of some Boston seafood spots.
Value -- good value, especially for quality of food and great service. Approximately $20-30 per person, but this included appetizers and a cocktail. Oysters were good price, especially for quality unlike some spots that are outrageous.
Summary -- if you're looking for a great seafood spot with excellent food and good service on River Street, then head to The...
Read moreStopped in for lunch after perusing our options along River St and we were not disappointed! Our server Kindra was super sweet. She happily answered our questions as we looked through the menu. And she was very attentive during the course of our meal. Our drinks stayed filled and our food came out promptly. We had the oysters Rockefeller for our appetizer and the cheese was melted to perfection, the spinach was fresh, the bacon was perfectly cooked, and they came to the table hot. For our mains, he had the fried seafood platter and I had the shrimp and crab au gratin. Every aspect of both of our meals was wonderful. The platter comes with flounder, oysters, shrimp, and deviled crab. The breading was crispy, perfectly seasoned, and stuck to the meat well. The seafood itself tasted fantastic as well. The shrimp and oysters were cooked to perfection. The flounder was perfectly flaky. The deviled crab had the perfect taste and consistency with chunks of crab meat. The sides of fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw were great as well. On the shrimp and crab au gratin the flavor was wonderful. The flavors of the seafood matched perfectly in the cheesy moray sauce. It came topped with a crispy crumbly crust. It came with sides of yellow rice and broccoli (I will admit I subbed the broccoli for French fries). Finally the drinks. The draft beer was frosty cold. They also offer the Chatham Artillery Punch. It's one of those everything-including-the-kitchen-sink kind of drinks and is somewhat reminiscent of a long Island iced tea with a wine twist. It was very good and we took one to go to enjoy as we walked along the river. All in all, we would definitely recommend and will...
