How was our stay? There was no stay. There was no stay because of an out of control manager named RANDY. This person went out of his way to be an absolute $&@! beyond what I’ve ever experienced. Please believe that this is not hyperbole.
To make a long story as short as possible, we booked a family trip with 3 rooms over a month in advance - 2 Oceanfront King Deluxe rooms and 1 Oceanfront Queen room. The trip was coordinated by phone between my mother and a lady who assured us that our 11 guest family would be able to fit in their 3 room setup for 2 nights without issue. Printed directly off of their website under Oceanfront King Deluxe Room it says "First or second floor, private bedroom with queen bed, queen bed and double sofa sleeper in living room, gas fireplace, wet bar and patio or balcony." To me and to most people, this would make it seems like sleeping 5 to 6 people in an Oceanfront King Deluxe Room would not be an impossibility. I'm still a bit curious why an Oceanfront KING Deluxe has queen beds but that's not really the big deal.
Obviously, we've never stayed here and don’t know their room layouts. We rely on their assurance when trying to book a family trip at an unfamiliar establishment. When we arrived with our family, Randy came out front to challenge us due to the number of guests he saw pulling in. Because my mother had booked the trip, she tried to rationalize what she had been told over the phone like any normal person would do. Randy immediately jumped on the defensive and told her that she should have looked at the confirmation. He would go on to repeat this rhetoric of it being our fault numerous times. We had our confirmation in hand. I suppose we were supposed to know the lady helping us on the phone AND the website were both incorrect. Randy insisted it wouldn’t work over and over. No apology in his voice just hostility and frustration completely unprovoked. He complained that it was recently the 4th of July (on the 7th of July). How long can you use a recent holiday as an excuse? Oddly enough, I was sleeping in an Air BnB in San Diego, California on the night of July 4th. I think using that as an excuse for overbooking and not having rooms prepared by check in 3 days later is pretty absurd. This reminds me, Randy actually said in the course of his lecturing us that he only had 2 rooms ready to go when we had confirmation for 3 in hand at 4 o'clock pm. Did they really drop the ball? Or was he just being negative and lying to push us away? I guess we'll never know the answer.
Try to understand us a bit here Randy we’re a family of 11 who is just finding out we traveled to the coast to find out we have nowhere to stay now. Randy then demanded we head to the office and we’d be issued a refund. Once again his demeanor was very course, bordering on hostile. My parents, retirement age and very reasonable people, were subsequently ORDERED by Randy to “LEAVE the lobby” (myself included - keep in mind I personally had not spoken a single word yet) while trying to sort out the issue with the seemingly friendly lady behind the counter. Absolutely appalling attitude from Randy toward a couple near 70 years of age. This guy has a chip on his shoulder and is extremely unprofessional. I honestly can’t put into words how unprofessionally we were treated. Keep in mind they already had $1,800 from us. At this point, I wouldn’t sleep in a room here if you paid my way. It’s a shame because the place appeared to be nice and clean but Randy nearly ruined our family vacation and I hope another family can be spared the indignity we were subjected to due to an arrogant attitude of unsuitable management. Fortunately we scrambled together and came up with 3 rooms at another...
Read moreThis was our second time staying here. It is a great hotel in a nice area, room has more beds , especially if you have a large family. We prefer to stay in hotels target than at Airbnb because they are cleaner, or so we thought. This time we booked for 4 nights, but ended up leaving early. When we checked in the room there was no welcome packet this time that I think of it. We mostly spent time outside of motel since the room didn’t have a kitchen so we only used the room for sleeping(they did have plates and a kitchen sink). I am not sure if they have new housekeeping staff or what but our experience with them this time was horrible. At our first night we found fresh (bloody snot stains on the comforter in a queen bedroom - and the sofa sheets(were still in the bed- and were dirty , the extra pillows for the sofa bed in the closet had coffee stains on them-I won’t attach the disgusting pictures but we showed it to housekeepers)We asked the housekeepers in the morning to change the sheets on both beds, and they acted like they couldn’t understand us, or acted like it was us that did it? Not sure, but they only changed the sheets, not the pillowcases and in the midst of it, one of them gave us her phone with front desk lady on the phone telling us that if we wanted a room service we needed to leave the room, we told them that the room was not clean but she kept interrupting and said that “they always clean!!!”After we asked for pillowcases the next day, since the pillows had none on that sofa bed, they called us and told us they will send a housekeeper to our room since we kept asking for things. Another housekeeper came in to look in the room to see what else needed to be changed, she showed up with the attitude like what else do you need? We didn’t even have a privacy sign for the door, no hair dryer in the room so asked for that and figured we won’t even ask for anything else again. But to think of it now, for the 5 people for 4 nights they only gave us one little tiny shampoo bottle! The curtain in the shower is a fabric material and it was also dirty- disgusting! For the half of the day there was always a guy spraying power-washer outside and they had the exit from the stairs taped out with puddles everywhere. At some point we were the only ones there at the property beside one car on the first floor and our room was on the second floor(you need to use stairs and I think, they didn’t even bother that they made us feel uncomfortable to be going outside with that spray going everywhere. The last straw was that we found a pair of someone else’s shoes and a new pack of diapers size 3 in the closet. Obviously they didn’t clean like they should have originally! They had plenty of opportunity to improve but instead made us feel like we are high maintenance. We loved the location but will not be back.Definitely not worth $800 plus taxes that we spent...
Read moreThe positive is I absolutely loved this last minute accommodations I made through AIRBNB. The room was beautiful and right on the Seaside promenade, within walking distance to the main hub of town and ocean view. I really enjoyed the bed, since I was traveling during the ice storm, the deep tub took my stress away from the white knuckle driving of the iced roads, and the fire place gave a true sense of ambiance. Be forewarned that you need to check in at a different location on other side of town. Now the negative:( Upon entering the room the smoke detector was going off. The check in office was closed. I messaged via Airbnb, called and text the host, who didn't reply EVER! I also messaged, via Airbnb, there emergency contact. Airbnb replied after 2 a.m., NUMEROUS hours after I checked in, not to mention odd hours to respond. Neither of these sources resolved the issue, so after 90 minutes of beeping my husband walked me through how to dismantle the smoke detector, which is exceptionally unsafe (my husband is head of maintenance for our local fire department). The way that this was handled in no way was acceptable or professional. The next day after much back and forth they offered to compensate me less than $30. Mind you I'm older, handicapped and traveling alone for numerous days in the recent ice storm trying to get home, which usually takes 12 hours but took numerous days. I took screen shots of my numerous messages and texts and pictures of the dismantled smoke detector in my correspondence with Airbnb too. Also, I reported that the wifi wasn't working, and sent them screens shots of my logins per their instructions. The stress of ALL this was beyond...
