I was pretty disappointed by the way I was treated by the staff at this location. My coworker and I arrived at 7 am and I was the first one in line to place an order for an egg and cheese croissant. Several other patrons came in, ordered their food and they were served before I was. The cashier with the purple hair came out from the kitchen and gave my friend her orders which was the same thing we both ordered. The cashier went back behind the register and 13 minutes had passed and l was not given my croissant. I had to walk out as I was running late to work and my coworker wanted to inquire about my croissant in which I told the guy behind the counter not to worry and just cancel it.
I do not understand how you have a sign outside of your establishment that says you stand with BLM, when every white patron that came through the door was served before I was. I wasn't even given the slightest acknowledgement of when I would receive my order. There was no point addressing the issue with a staff that prefers not to serve an Asian person, because they would not acknowledge how I was racially discriminated against.
Henri,
The intent of my review was not to get a gift card to make it right, but to address how I was treated in your establishment. I'm not sure why informing me that your owner is of East Indian descent and priding yourself on training individuals for a safe and diverse workspace should make me feel better? It actually does not, in fact it makes it worse, knowing the fact that I watched 6 other white patrons received their order before mine and again I was the first one in line. My white friend received her order and I did not. I'm not asking for VIP treatment because I was first in line, but logically it makes sense if you order a croissant and everyone orders a breakfast meal after you, that you are served in the order received. It honestly took more than 12 minutes for a croissant to come out and it wasn't even my order. If you are unable to connect the dots, it is because you were not in my shoes on Thursday morning.
At the end of the day, a business owner or management can provide informative training and have multiple coaching conversations, but the preferential treatment towards customers and actions of the employees are out of your hands once they are in the front of house. Gift cards will never make a situation like this right. It's an unfortunate encounter I do not plan on revisiting with your café. I'm sure not all your employees have this mindset, but it just takes one bad...
Read moreUpdated 2/6/23: Earlier I didn't have a good experience at Mt West but was surprised to have them reach out to me after my initial review. Not only did they refund my order but they gave me a gift card to try their restaurant again. I went early on a Monday morning instead and it was a lot less busy than when I went before.
I got the Mr Breakfest again with a Huckleberry hand pie and an orange Mocha latte. The potatoes were a little dry for my taste, but the rest of the breakfest was a lot better than my experience last time. The latte was very good as well. Though I think my favorites from here are the outstanding patries.
My best tips here are to try it out during the week if you can and definitely order in person. The online order process is just not the same experience and it won't be as good at all. I'm very appreciative of the owner reaching out and providing a new meal to try it again. The part where this place shines the most is their service. I'll certainly try to come back when I'm around the area next!
Previous review: I didn't really enjoy my experience here. We visited on Sunday at 11am which can be a busy time. The line was really long so we tried to skip it and get into the food queue by ordering online. We didn't realize this would mean the food would not be plated. There was no option to choose dine in from what we could find.
It was a little embarrassing eating out of the take out bins in the dining area when others were able to have plated food. They also forgot two parts of my order the first time around after waiting 30 minutes. Some of the staff is nice but others just flat out ignore you when trying to ask a question from the experience we had.
I got the Mr Breakfest and a coffee. The food itself was okay but not worth the price paid. It became clear the price seemed to be mostly for the atmosphere. The coffee...
Read moreMy most recent stop at Mr. West was to order online and take back to my room at the Hyatt Regency next door (Eastside loss of power). I’d been here a few times before eating on site.
The food is all around excellent and pretty reasonably priced for downtown. Great sandwiches; the toasted cheese is addictive, the club is outstanding, and I recall the tuna salad being great from a previous visit as well as Mr. Breakfast being filling and a decent price. There’s a good selection of many different food and drink options. Did I mention the prices are shockingly reasonable? Also, the sandwich portions are no joke. I’m a big guy and a club pretty well fills me up for the day. There’s also a nice portion of chips on the side which seem to be fresh made and are an addiction unto themselves.
The service. If you know downtown Seattle, you know to alter your expectations a bit downward. Especially at an obviously hipster place like this where you immediately notice the staff is clearly pretty classic “Seattle Gen Z”. You shouldn’t expect midwestern smiles or trite pleasantries. They are generally efficient and capable, they are simply put out by having to have a job at all and just want you to get your food and move along. They aren’t rude or anything, they’re just not “fake happy”. Honestly, the service is no better or worse than average for a big city in the US in 2024. Exceptional service simply really isn’t a thing in most of the US anymore.
I give 5 stars because it’s a restaurant and the quality of the food should be at least 75% weight of the rating. Go for very good food at good enough prices and a cute hipster atmosphere, and not fake smiles and pleasantries and...
