I have been spending summers out in Montauk since I was a little girl. Montauk is known to be a family friendly town. My husband, kids and I stayed at The Montauk Beach House last August. We had a nice experience so we booked again for the following summer, the stay we just recently checked out from. It was a very different experience than last summer. We checked in and I noticed immediately our air conditioning unit was not working properly. So I contacted the front desk and they sent the tech to check it out. He did nothing more than show us how to work the remote. By the 3rd night I had to make a complaint, which I am not very fond of doing, but we were sweating overnight, and luckily they were able to accommodate us to another room that had properly working air conditioning.
The week started off with a lot of rain. So every morning we would go out for breakfast, because the hotel only has a small cafe in the lobby that offers coffee and pastries, and then come back to the hotel to sit in the outdoor covered lounge area, where I was told that my daughter could not eat her banana (in her stroller) because they do not allow outside food. Yet they have no fruit or yogurt to offer for breakfast and one item on the lunch menu to accommodate children…pizza. No outside food is allowed pretty much on the property other than eating inside your hotel room. During the day the children are not allowed to snack on anything other than what is offered on their beach restaurant menu. There were just so many days my children would tolerate pizza! And absolutely no pool toys allowed. The pool floats I understand for safety purposes, but no pool toys? There are two pools on site. One is adults only. And one had a sign dragged out front of it labeled “family pool.” The staff overall are pleasant. The maid, Patricia, is lovely. She remembered my family from last summer. Nikita, one of the poolside waitresses, also remembered us and was very accommodating while we were by the pool. Devin, another waiter, was also wonderful. Very friendly. But the manager, Yanni, is another story.
There was live music one evening and I brought my kids down for the tail end of the music and we sat in the grass/sand lounge sofa area. My kids, 6 and 4, were CALMLY playing with the sand on the floor by our sofa. Yanni immediately stomped over and was completely disrespectful. “I can’t have this here.” I asked him “can’t have what?” “This. What they’re doing. I can’t have this here.” I said “I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what the issue is? They are quietly playing in the sand causing no disturbance to anyone.” He walked off. And I feel the need to share this because I will never return back to this hotel again. Which is a shame because we were looking forward to booking our stay again for next summer at the end of this last trip
Overall, it feels like management are trying to change the vibe from ‘family friendly’ to ‘adult pool party’ but you can’t make that happen while hosting families. I would have preferred to be warned in advance that they did not want my kids there so we could spend our...
Read moreThis was our first getaway after having a baby. We were excited to finally enjoy some time together in our favorite town! As always we tend to arrive prior to check in and are able to use the facility. Upon check in we were greeted by what it felt like an annoyed front desk employee who was glued to her cellphone. She never showed or extended the grounds to us. I totally understand it’s a stressful time to work during covid, I myself will be the first to say as a health care employee, but try to at least be somewhat pleasant and attentive.
The parking is horrendous! It’s first come first and there are no identifiers visible to let the hotel know who is exactly parking on the property. We had to wait for a spot which was taken by a costumer shopping next door.
Later on we get a text stating our room is ready and to check in. Once we get to the room it was still dirty, I wiped down the end tables which had what looked like rings from a beverage. The toilet seat was soiled and outside the shower had rotted wood which contained mold. I wiped everything down anyway because we have a infant at home. I highly doubt they use any state of the art cleaning as specified on a letter which was placed on the bed.
That evening we received a text stating they will have breakfast so we don’t have to go into town and beat the crowds. The following morning we went to the lobby and no one knew what I was talking about. Apparently the delivery never came she said.
We decided to head to the pool area and was asked to leave because they had morning yoga. The man who approached us was rude and should of offered us another area to relax in, but that was not the case.
That evening we came downstairs to enjoy the fire pit around 930p and by the time we got someone’s attention he stated they stop serving at 10. We were perplexed because the table next to us ordered cocktails from a different server and that was not the case for us.
Lastly, after checking out early, we received a text around 12 stating if we do not check out we will be charged an extra fee. I had to phone the front desk and make them aware a second time that we checked out.
This was beyond an awful, unwelcoming, and a disappointing stay!
I do not recommend this hotel, they need some education on costumer service and...
Read moreI don’t usually leave reviews but in the interest of being helpful to other potential guests - here’s what I honestly thought. We visited in the third week of September - weather was still good and rooms still fairly expensive, even for the area. Despite this, we were told repeatedly that it was the end of the season, as an excuse for all sorts of inconveniences and issues. This included things like, the coffee bar not being open (sounds petty - but there was nothing to make coffee with in the room, which feels like bare minimum for a hotel like this), ordering and paying for drinks at the bar, to then being told they didn’t have the ingredients. The staff who worked by the pool and in the coffee bar were absolutely lovely, but all the others you could tell were bored and keen to end for the season. I totally get that - but also, it’s kind of their job?! Anyway it all just felt a bit sloppy and lacklustre, like there was no point making an effort to keep service standards up - despite being still open and charging customers the usual rate to stay lol? Rooms were very average and despite being told the hotel was practically empty, we were put in a room facing away from the pool. Just feel like, in those circumstances you would try and give guests the best experience? Again just made us feel like we were a nuisance and they didn’t care. Anyway I hope this doesn’t make me sound like a Karen - but I wanted to be honest, as it was expensive and I wish I had known this before - I would have stayed...
