The quality of this restaurant is not good enough for montauk standards. Ive been to bird on the roof a few times during the summer and Ive never been wowed but continue to go back for the convenience. However my most recent experience was beyond disappointing and somewhat gross.
Our server was incredibly nice and understanding. I ordered the Shakshuka which comes with one egg but I asked for an additional egg (+$2) as this didnt seem like enough for a $23 dish. Not only did it not come with an extra egg but the egg that was with the dish was almost hard boiled; no where NEAR poached as it was supposed to be. This probably was a result of the skillet bring so incredibly piping hot I had to wait several minutes before eating to not burn my mouth. The bread the dish came with had extreme black charr from being toasted that concerned me.
Not only was the Shakshuka a distasteful experience, but my fork was dirty with left over food crust on it. The summer salad for $18 wirh no protein (+$8 for chicken) was extremely small and did not come with enough chicken worthy of an $8 extra charge.
As for the pancakes, with sausage, the sausage was flavorless but the pancakes were sweet and fluffy; one of the only enjoyable things about this experience. The coffee drinks were solid and worth the price.
Overall, I was shocked that these inconveniences could even occur at an esteemed restaurant with prices that high for small simple dishes I could probably make better myself.
As much as the nostalgic factor brings me back to eat at bird on the roof, I can confidently say I would rather seek alternative options for...
Read moreNew ownership has created a wonderful, friendly, light and airy atmosphere. From the moment you approach the restaurant there is a welcoming feeling. Inside that feeling is multiplied upon being greeted by warm and genuine smiles. Everyone gives off a cheerful and happy vibe.
Love the little gift shop area, with lovely offerings. The coffee and espresso drinks are delicious. I love that they are environmentally friendly with non plastic straws and spoons!
The entire place is scattered with healthy beautiful plants. The dining area is cozy and comfy, with indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor, the walls are painted with plants and adorned with beautiful pastel paintings by local artist Mary Daunt.
The food is absolutely amazingly delicious. I dined there several times, and it was outstanding each time.
The first day, I had the Roasted Beet sandwich... OMG it was incredibly delicious, I l love beets, and this was a symphony of wonderful flavors that complimented each other. I am going to try to replicate this at home, but not sure I can do the BOR version justice. The staff is so nice and friendly!
The 2nd time, I got the 2 eggs with avacado and homefries-which were not the standard homefries, but chunks of lovely browned and seasoned potatoes. It was all delicious!
The pastries here are out of this world, I just couldn't stay away from this place during my visit to Montauk.
Thank you Leo, Zoe, Brie and others (sorry my memory stinks, I can't remember all names of the wonderful people there).
Highly recommend the newly renovated and new ownership of the Bird...
Read moreWe had high hopes for this restaurant which was quiet at 6.45. And the temporature was pleasant so we ate outside. We both ordered a Smashed Burger. It only came well done. Had pickles, a pretend piece of of lettuce, some kind of orange colored sauce and a slice of orange cheese. Only the pickles added any significant flavor. The rest of the vegetables were non-existent. It was served on a brioche bun that was nicely toasted. The burger at $24 was pretty bad. If you like McDonalds you would like this burger...I take that back, you would prefer McDonalds because it didn't cost $24. The fries that came with the burger were tasty...even for something out of the freezer. Gosh, I just hate having fake french fries. We also both had margaritas, The flavor and the little bit of OJ I asked for were nice. What would have been better was the size of the glass. It was small and crammed with ice . It would have been yummy if the $14 drink had some alcohol in it. There was a service charge! What's with that? Not where I come from. Sorry to say it came out of the tip. So in summary, the bun was the highlight of the meal. Go to...
