This is a FANTASTIC hotel stay.
The location is phenomenal with great views of Mirror Lake from the lobby (and possibly your room) and an easy and quick walk to all the main shops and restaurants along Main Street. The hotel also has a large parking lot making it easy for guests to park.
The hotel provides free breakfast which includes hot items like eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles and a toaster for bagels and other bread. (Note: I did not eat the breakfast because my wife has allergies to nuts & peanuts and the breakfast area did have nuts so we were unsure with the potential for cross-contact that it would be safe for her to eat. But it looked quite good for those who aren't traveling with a guest with food allergies)
Then for 24 hours, they provide FREE access to hot tea, coffee (regular & decaf), hot chocolate, lemonade, and flavored water (usually some sort of citrus or cucumber water). The lobby also has a water fountain with a bottle filler. I'll add that the fountain and bottle filler both work and are well maintained and the water is cold. This was a HUGE plus. I normally spend so much money on water bottles because I'm always so thirsty at night. Being able to fill up my water bottle was amazing. They also have fruit you can take and sometimes popcorn. All for free.
Just outside the lobby is a patio area with additional tables and chairs, a fire pit you can use (by request) and then additional Adirondack Chairs on the lawn which you can sit in and just enjoy the view of the lake.
Service to the rooms is provided every other day which I found adequate and they did a great job. They're just a bit inconsistent about what time they service the rooms. One day, our room was done by noon. Another day, we went back to our room at 4:00pm only to see staff was in our room cleaning it so we had to wait. Not a big deal though.
Normally when you think of a Hampton Inn, you think of an affordable hotel, that's relatively clean and will be a nice place for you to sleep. And that's all I was expecting. Basically just a place with beds. And I'm not a bougie person. That's really all I need.
But the 24-hour drinks & snacks that were available, plus the water bottle filler made this stay above & beyond what we could have expected.
My wife and I make yearly trips to Lake Placid and keep staying in different hotels which all have their pros and cons. And normally we just go for a long weekend. But for this trip, we stayed for 9 nights. I'm glad this was the hotel we chose to stay in for more than a week. We decided after this trip that moving forward, The Hampton Inn will be our go-to. This hotel has everything. Location. Amenities. And the price is in line with any other hotel within walking distance to Main Street. There's no reason to stay anywhere else. We will DEFINITELY be back.
I echo the other reviews that this Hampton Inn is likely the best Hampton Inn in the...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Hampton In Lake Placid July 13-14, 2022, on a HHonors Program Reward.
We experienced the worst check-in we have ever had at a Hilton property.
There was apparently a problem with the online check in system. Unfortunately, the General Manager (Richard) and Assistant General Manager (Morgan) demonstrated no interest doing what they could to provide even a decent Guest Experience at check-in.
When I asked to be checked in early at 3pm, an hour earlier than the official check in time, I was told by the Front Desk agent that my room was not ready. That was later acknowledged to be not true - see below - but it apparently was the “official” response given by the Front Desk to us, and to all the Guests who tried to check in following us. I asked to speak with the hotel GM, and was told that he (Richard) wasn’t in but that the hotel Assistant GM (Morgan) was. Morgan at first told me that my room was not ready - again, not true. Morgan then informed me about the Hilton system issues, but said that the hotel’s check in time was 4pm, and that the hotel “does not offer early check in”. Later, when the General Manager (Richard) came out from the back, he told me that the hotel offers early check in “all the time”. My wife sat in the checking area from 3pm until 3:54pm, when we were manually checked in. No one offered to hold our luggage during that time. However, we were told that we could “sit at the bar” while we waited. And, not one of the Guests who tried to check in in the time period between 3pm and 3:54pm were offered luggage hold.
Instead of “owning” the online check in problem, and doing what he could to optimize the Guest Experience given the situation, Richard told me that it was a “Hilton problem”.
Richard decided to wait until 4pm for a “Hilton technology support fix”, instead of immediately executing the manual check in to accommodate the many waiting Guests. Richard told me that executing the manual check in process (which he ended up doing anyway was “labor intensive” and “might cause Guest dissatisfaction”.
Following our stay, I responded to a Hilton Guest survey and expressed my dissatisfaction, and the reasons for my dissatisfaction. I hadn’t planned to pursue the matter further..
However, the following day, I received a nasty personal email from Richard, in which he called me a liar.
I called the Hilton Diamond Desk - I’ve been a Hilton Diamond VIP Guest for many years and have never complained before - and a case was opened.
Richard and Morgan aside, the Hampton Inn Lake Placid staff was excellent, and so a big “Thank You” to them.
Our experience with the Hotel staff moved my review from “1”...
Read moreI shared my bad experience in the survey sent by Hilton, but no one from the hotel contacted me after my stay in Hampton Inn, Lake Placid, NY. When I spent close to 200,000 points plus $568 for 3 nights stay. I was promised a premium view of lake placid which wasn't. In fact, there was an adjoining balcony of the next room with a view to my bed thereby compromising privacy of my room. I told about it to front desk who promised "guaranteed resolution", but they did not do anything, rather offered me room with no balcony. The room was far from being premium. The drapery was torn with holes, the bed wasn't comfortable and worst, the climate control unit was faulty which disrupted my sleep multiple times during the night. I prefer a cooler temperature while sleeping but it got very hot when the unit stopped and then it started back up again. The temperature control unit doesn't go below 66F and even if it set at 66F, once the room is at 66F, the shuts off. When it starts to get hot, it starts again. Really, it was an old system of climate control or the hotel has shut off the cooling system, and only air cooling was available. It was a horrible holiday without a continuous sleep and I told the management about it. They sent a mechanic and he said nothing can be done. Another point to point out its lack of attentipon and safety. In the breakfast area, the coffee station had small cups with no lids. The cups were small and filmsy, and I was fearing that it can't hold hot water. The absence of lids made it even worse for a spill incident. When I broght it up, they said better cups and lids are avalilable in another location, which was in the hotel's usual cofee station. So the people who came to eat breakfast, should get cups and lids from another place to fill in coffee from the breakfast area. How funny! This should not be the quality of an international hotel chain such as Hilton. I basically spend a lot of money and points to get a premium room to enjoy a good time with my family, but had to face a very ordinary room. Had the charges per night would have been less, around $200/night, it would have been OK. I paid close to 200,000 points (almost $1000.00) plus $568 for 3 nights. I didn't expect this kind of a shabby quality from a premium room. Will never visit that property again. Please return my points for ruining my...
