After making a purchase and leaving i noticed the price on the receipt was about 25% higher than the price printed on the box next to the barcode. I have pictures of both, and the receipt and box to verify my claim. I'll post the picture momentarily. I understand when the barcode is scanned its just the way it comes up, and I don't blame the cashier. Someone made a mistake though and I, or any customer, shouldnt be the one who pays the price (or in this case pay the overprice). this is completely unacceptable for any retail establishment, and im fairly certain its a form of false advertisement. When i worked retail, if it was marked the wrong price that's what the customer paid, regardless of the actual price, or loss in revenue the business would have to eat for that misspriced item.
The receipt does say a member would have saved $X.xx, but even if you subtract the potential savings from the price I was charged that only covers about half the discrepancy in price. Now if it were a membership only price that's printed on the box then the actual price should be shown along with it. Without doing so in my opinion is not only misleading, but a dishonest business practice.
I don't think I will be buying any books here in the future, especially with a half price books not far away. Better prices and no mysterious price hikes. AND they don't watch me and try and discreetly follow me around like I'm going to steal things. Just because im dirty (try and do new construction plumbing and stay clean!), with colored hair, and piercings doesn't mean I'm going to start shoving product down my pants and make a break for the door. Coulda' fooled me! I thought this was the non discriminatory Pacific Northwest, not a close minded, judgemental region with a high school popularity...
Read moreAs a customer: this is a wonderful store. It has a lot to choose from, there's a Starbucks, there's a Gamestop attached, a wine and liquor store outside - you can easily take a "day vacation" for yourself and never leave the area, really. Spend all day reading and perusing the books, get some coffee, buy some games for yourself, go to get some fun drinks at the liquor store, and head home to play games and get tipsy. The employees are for the most part very friendly and helpful.
If you're thinking of working there, however, I'd suggest deciding against it unless you're a cutthroat salesman. I'm not, and had a very hard time "selling" memberships to people, and I ended up having to quit because I was so close to getting fired for "not meeting quota". I wasn't allowed to actually work with the books until I could prove as a cashier that I could "sell" a specific amount of membership cards in a specific amount of time on a regular basis.
It was always a dream job of mine and it was a shame I had it dashed all because I don't like harassing customers to pay for something they already told me they don't want. Maybe I'll look into working with books at a library or something.
But hey, if you're good at finagling, making sales, or charming/sweet talking people into paying extra for things, the job...
Read moreOne of the latest vestiges of the physical bookstore, this place is well-organized and offers a lot of variety. You can browse books all day if you want. However, there aren't any chairs to sit on and read the books. It's mostly an experience of standing/leading in an aisle to try to read the first few pages of a book to see if it's what you want. What happened to the soft sofa chairs that once dotted these stores? Maybe that was many years in the past and invited permanent store residents.
While I love the browseability of physical book stores, I have to say that my reading interests are more niche and many of the books I want to read are only available from online store locations, sadly. A physical bookstore has to cater more to general interest. That said, this bookstore has a wide selection and will probably have many good books to recommend. It is, ultimately, a chain store, though, and lacks the appeal of a more independent bookstore (which frequently offer hand-written reviews from owners...
