Extremely Disappointing Stay at Aqua Vista Hotel, Virginia Beach
Our experience at Aqua Vista Hotel was nothing short of frustrating and unacceptable that we need to change our hotel and cancel the booking before our check-out date.
Staff & Service: The front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. During our stay, a transformer blew out around noon, plunging the entire building into darkness. With no functioning elevator, we were stranded on the 7th floor. The manager and other staff were nowhere to be found. When we requested a room change for the night, the receptionist claimed he had no key access, and the master key was with the manager—who wouldn’t return until the next morning. To make matters worse, he said he had no way to contact the manager, not even a cell phone.
Room Conditions: The room was in terrible condition. The furniture was old and damaged, the bathroom was dirty with a persistent foul odor, and the fridge barely worked. Hair was scattered around the room and even on the blanket—we had to clean it ourselves before using anything. The bed was uncomfortable and creaked loudly with the slightest movement. Although we had booked a non-smoking room, the smell of marijuana constantly seeped into our room from the hallway. The only positive thing is the view from our room.
Parking Issues: While parking is available, it's located about 200 meters away from the hotel. Unfortunately, our car was hit and dented while parked there. When we asked the hotel for CCTV footage to identify the culprit, we were told there were no cameras monitoring the parking area—leaving us with no support or recourse.
Bottom Line: This hotel is poorly managed, unhygienic, and unsafe. I would strongly advise against...
Read moreI recently stayed here with family, and while the location truly is amazing — central, convenient, and close to everything — unfortunately, that’s the only highlight of our stay.
Upon arrival in 100° heat, the front desk was overwhelmed and unfortunately quite dismissive. Even though we were a large group, we remained patient, only to have to figure out key details like parking (located across the street in an extremely tight and cramped lot) entirely on our own. We were lucky that our car wasn’t damaged, as the setup leaves little room for error.
Once inside the hotel, things went downhill fast. The overall atmosphere was uncomfortable — the smell, the temperature, the outdated design, and especially the lack of cleanliness all contributed to a poor experience. Only one elevator services all six floors, and the wait times were excessive.
The room itself felt neglected: the bathroom appeared dirty, with what looked like black mold around the tub tiles, and there were no basic amenities such as a coffee maker or even a clock. The fridge made loud, disruptive noises throughout the night, and the tile flooring throughout the room gave it a cold, unsanitary feel — not ideal for anyone looking to relax.
The pool area was also problematic. Wet floors near the entrance created slippery, messy conditions throughout common areas. The stairwell was especially concerning — dirty, outdated, and made me feel genuinely unsafe as a female traveler. It had an eerie, unwelcoming vibe, even with family nearby.
Overall, this hotel feels more like a quick overnight stop rather than a relaxing getaway. If cleanliness, comfort, and safety matter to you, I’d strongly recommend considering...
Read moreLike everyone else has said, this place is pretty much only good because it’s conveniently right next to the beach. there was a mile long wait for the elevator because there’s only 1 in the entire hotel and we ended up walking up to the 6th floor to our room. When we were walking up the stairs there were huge dead cockroaches on the stairwell which was disgusting and the stairs looked like they were gonna crumble apart. Our room was dirty. The bedsheets had stains, the towels had stains, the curtains in our room had stains, our walls had boogers on it, our tv didn’t work (yes the remote had batteries), our room smelt like cigs, our fridge didn’t work, the room was very old and had spider webs and dust in the corners of it, when you walk on the floor with socks your entire sock turns black from how dirty it is. We ended up putting our own towels down on our bed bc of how gross we felt and I used another towel as a blanket. My friend asked one of the workers for other sheets since ours were dirty and she completely ignored her. Walls are paper thin. No complimentary breakfast. We paid $640 for 2 nights. Y’all should take these 1 star reviews and try to make this a better place. And to make sure you’re mopping and cleaning up rooms properly. I felt so dirty staying here and paying so much money for this place is so disappointing. At this point don’t even copy and paste me the same BS you’re saying to everyone else with the “I’m sorry about your experience”. You guys need to do better! You’re making tons of money and need to upgrade these rooms and make a...
