Let me start by saying the food is sssoooo good!! My friend & I split the Baja salad with the dressing on the side (the salad was so good alone that it really didn't need the dressing, even though the dressing was fantastic) & the Chicken Ciabatta sandwich with tots on the side, which could have maybe used some spring mix greens for a bit more dimension (just something I thought of while eating it, but it was still absolutely delicious without). & the ciabatta breaaddddd--ugh, so good! We also had a blueberry crush & a jalapeño marg. They were okay. With that being said, my friend & I had been wanting to try this place & based on the website & photos of it, we expected it to be similar to Tulu--a bit upscale. When we sat down & saw the menu, we actually almost walked out. The menus do absolutely NO justice to how good the food is! I will literally revamp your menu on canva to match your intended vibe for free if you send me the info! Outside of the quality of food & the menu being massively disconnected, we found the vibe was all over the place. Parts of the restaurant were like "come in straight from the beach with just your bathing suit on & order a hot dog at the counter" while other parts were like "wear a cute sun dress & order a fancy drink" & other parts were like "wear denim shorts & a t-shirt because we're super casual." While all of those vibes are well & good, can we pick one? It was giving McDonald's/fast food at the counter (& with the ketchup packets & clear your own table), Bay Local with the blue shabby chic barstools downstairs, the Shack/Lunasea upstairs, & like Esoteric with the black/wooden tables & chairs & greenery-lined staircase. Lol there's so much potential here! Maybe change the seats all to white, change the Easter-colored hanging flowers downstairs to just greenery, revamp the menu, get a "classier" drink dispenser, move the artwork/personal things to the kitchen, turn the live music down juuuuust a bit, put some music downstairs, & maybe at least have one staff member bussing tables & offering water, & have ketchup bottles instead of packets. I know I'm just one in a sea of a LOT of reviews, & overall this place has a great review, but we just think this place could be even better. Super excited to see this place continue...
Read moreHonestly if I could give them no stars I would. Spent the day in Virginia Beach today pretty much to check out venues and such for an upcoming event I'm planning. My group of 3 got hungry and saw this place it looked cute the menu looked to satisfy our different food preferences so we of course decided to stop by. Upon entering this establishment there are signs stating to use the online menu (which in a Covid environment is understandable), there was a sign stating that it was self seating so we of course followed instructions and found a seat. No one spoke to us no one asked how were we we weren't even greeted upon entering and the staff pretty much acted as though they were super busy which again covid short staffed understandable. However not 10 minutes after we arrived and were viewing the menu another group of young ladies entered and we greeted all the way across the room. The staff then made it a point to walk to the door explain everything to them and even hand them a menu. Now I hate that in today's time I must point out the obvious but we (my group) were the only African Americans in this establishment. This automatically put a bad taste in my mouth because obviously no matter the person of an establishment is mad to stay open they should in fact provide the same level of customer service to each patron. This however did not seem like the standard was the same for our group so we inevitably left to find food away from the strip. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone regardless of what their claims are they offer what they do not offer is customer service that is satisfactory to...
Read moreAbove average beach food. They have beer on draft and garage doors open to the outside with a nice view of the scene on Atlantic Avenue. You pay at the counter in back, and they text you when your food is ready. They generally seem to bring the food to you if they know where you're sitting.
The muffaletta is very good. I would avoid sandwich selections that spoil the savory with sweet stuff.
They ran out of muffaletta bread, but the ciabatta bread was excellent: Crunchy on the outside; fresh, warm and chewy on the inside.
Breakfast is great too, although you have to order a la carte if you just want a standard eggs & bacon breakfast. I would not recommend doing that. Pick one of the breakfast sandwiches or bowls from the menu.
The kitchen is not equipped to handle even small crowds. Expect long waits for a hot breakfast during busy times.
June 2022 update: I believe the menu has been trimmed a bit? Perhaps there are fewer healthy items like salads. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, which was great. Between the two pieces and a nice draft beer it was plenty. I did not order a side dish.
Also, they added a rooftop bar. It's modest, but nicely kept. There was live music when I visited on a Friday night. Order food downstairs and your drink upstairs. It's a little inconvenient if you plan to sit downstairs, but it's a nice opportunity to check out the...
