I ordered dinner yesterday after I saw their ad in the hotel magazine. No one picked up the phone when we called so we drove over. The current menu prices are different from the online prices as they said they updated their menu. I opted for the shrimp mini feast with a lb of peel yourself shrimp, sausage, potatoes. Fried fish, fried shrimp and fried chicken along with hush puppies.
They charge around $1.50 extra (three other restaurants that I ordered from later did not do that) if you pay with CC vs cash. The cashier also said that they charged automatic gratuity because "they do a lot of work" for take out orders too. When I got the final bill for one entree, it was over $53 with a 20% gratuity. I told her that I don't mind paying a tip but a 20% tip on takeout is excessive. She was very polite and took it off and I added a $5 tip anyway because I understand their situation and felt bad.
The fried food itself was fresh, not overly seasoned or breaded or oily. The steamed shrimp was also good. One or two seemed a little mushy when peeling but overall we enjoyed it with the really good sauces we were given.
The reason for the 2 stars is because after claiming they put in a lot if work and trying to charge full tip, she forgot the hush puppies and corn. They did not include any utensils or napkins as well. I was already back at the hotel after getting mac n cheese elsewhere for my son. Of course no one picked up after I called (not that I was expecting them to deliver my sides but I wanted them to be aware for future) Lack of transparency in pricing and lack of attention to detail and trying to charge a 20% tip on takeout orders contributed to knocking...
Read moreShould have known better walking in the door. Smell of weed was so strong entering off of Atlantic Ave. that it was like a punch in the face. Almost made me nauseous. 8 year old daughter ordered kids fried shrimp and fries. The shrimp were literally so hard, almost chewy she wouldnt eat them. The fries were actually moist and mushy. My wife ordered fried cauliflower. It was so undercooked that it was barely brown in color and the cauliflower inside was still hard as a rock. I pointed this out to waitress and all she did was shrug her shoulders and take a full basket away to clear table without even offering to take it off the bill. I ordered the Chesapeake boil. Worst seafood I have ever eaten in an area where seafood should be second nature. Zero seasoning. It was a plate of boiled shrimp still in shell with NO seasoning. 3 small redskin potatoes with NO seasoning. A dozen mussels that had simply been boiled in water to death and had no flavor left and were also dry and chewy from being so overcooked. And corn on the cob, but unstead of traditional shucked corn cut into sections they serve a whole cob unshucked that has simply been boiled with NO seasoning. Who wants to shuck thier own cob and spend 20 minutes pulling silk out of thier teeth for boiled corn with no flavor. I also ordered a bottle of beer and at no point was I ever offered another.
The bill for 2 adults and one child with an appetizer and 1 beer was $120. Without question the most overpriced underwhelming food I have ever eaten while on vacation.
DO NOT make the mistake we made. There are 20 other restaurants within 5 minute walk of this place that serve excellent food...
Read moreMy mama and I dined at Oceanhouse Waterfront Restaurant yesterday and our server profiled us.
Upon seating she didn’t say her name, barely visited our table, didn’t refill my mama’s drink and wasn’t pleasant. That’s not the major issue; as you see our bill has two different totals: one if you use a credit card, second if you pay on cash. I asked our server if gratuity is added for just two ppl. She immediately responded and said bc of the Memorial Day weekend all bills automatically are added gratuity. (If that were true she didn’t say that once we sat down)
Now something in my spirit didn’t believe that was the case. NOW…there was a white couple;party of 2 sitting across from us. They received their bill at the same time. I asked them if they had gratuity added on their bill. THEY DID NOT!!!😠 😡
I searched for the manager, who was in the kitchen, I explained what just occurred. He quickly lied and said “oh I just got off the phone with the owner and he said that’s not a thing we’re doing I’m not sure where that rule came from, we’ll remove it immediately. Just allow her a few moments”
As we waited 6 minutes for my mamas AMEX card the server NEVER RETURNED TO THE TABLE WITH THE CARD. As my mama is on the phone with AMEX, I again have to hunt the server down. Only to find out she left my mama’s card mixed in under four black bill books. And then asked me if I was sure it’s not at the table!!!
I say all this to say: she assumed because we ARE BLACK THAT WE WEREN’T GOING TO TIP HER.
If you’re in the VA BEACH AREA I WOULD NOT SPEND YOUR HARD WORKING MONEY AT THIS...
