I struggled with this one. I was convinced that I wasn’t going write a review on this place when I walked in and had to order from the counter. And just to set the stage, they sell alcohol, but that's at a separate counter (a bar, actually), and it's completely a separate purchase and ticket.
Okay, let's start with the food service. Mediocre at best and rivaled by Wendy's. We ordered two meals and a side of hummus for an appetizer. It took about 20 minutes and everything came out at once, rather than the hummus coming out first.
After I commented on the olive oil being on the table, my tablemate told me that normally they bring bread out and you use the oil for dipping the bread.
We were served no bread.
Back to the alcohol. Chris, the bartender, more than made up for the poor food service by being pleasant, accommodating, and attentive. He made excellent beer recommendations and mixed a fabulous cocktail, then returned to the table several times to check on us. Okay, things are starting to look up.
What really changed my mind, though, about writing the review was the food. The food is high quality, real restaurant (not fast food counter service) food, served on ceramic plates.
I'll start with the hummus. I'm a bit of a hummus snob. I make my own and have perfected the texture and flavor to just the way I like it, and this was that. If I'm being totally honest, maybe even a shade better. I like my hummus smooth and creamy, not grainy like commercially bought hummus, and a tad on the salty side. Bang, nailed it.
I had the Spanish Eggplant and a local craft beer. I'm not really sophisticated enough to think too deeply about pairings, but let me say this. When I first took a bite of the Eggplant dish, it was okay. Now remember, everything came at once. But then I took a bite of the hummus with it's rich, perfectly salty, nutty flavor (topped with paprika), and then another bite of the the eggplant, and wow, what a difference. The light saltiness of the hummus brought out the sweetness of the Spanish Eggplant and wow, what an elevation of flavors.
The Spanish Eggplant is braised eggplant, with sautéed bell peppers, onions, garbanzo beans and crushed tomatoes. I got the meal that also comes with sprinkled feta and it all served on a bed of rice.
My tablemate had the Chicken Shawarma with creamy garlic potatoes and I can tell you that there was nothing left when we were finished, so I know it was good.
I took about half of mine, and about half of the hummus side and reheated it for lunch the next day. Yep, it was just as good the next day.
I don't know why they don't have table service, I'm sure it was some corporate decision that weighs cost versus demand, but in my humble opinion, this is regular restaurant quality food and I think they're missing a larger audience who might prefer a more formal dining experience. Don't know, maybe the quicker table turn works for them, but it's certainly a unique setup.
Bottom line. Great food, great alcohol service, dynamic bartender. The front of the house could use some adult supervision, but overall worth the trip if you like great...
Read moreI visited this restaurant due to its good reviews and, primarily, its close proximity to the airport and airport hotels. I understand that there are a half dozen or so locations in Kansas and Oklahoma.
In general, the food was tasty, but the ambiance was odd. I had the distinct impression that the owners couldn’t decide between a fast-casual and traditional sit-down dining and tried to meld the two. The effort was not successful; the place felt disjoined. You order at the counter and get food delivered to your table (all at once, rather than in courses), as in a conventional fast-casual restaurant. Many of the tables and chairs would be at home in a mall food court. But there’s also a full bar and various efforts in styling to make the place into a nicer, sit-down restaurant. It is not at all cohesive, and I found myself wishing that they had opted for a cozier, sit-down restaurant rather than a place that, despite the very good service and polite staff, never quite felt relaxing. I’m not sure who their target demographic is, and I’m sure they know either. The place seems to do a booming business in take-out, and having experienced both the food and the environment, that makes sense to me.
The entrée and side were quite good and portions were generous. There are good vegetarian options. The cheap olive oil did a great disservice to the nice, complementary pita. The dessert menu seemed to be slightly shorter in person than it was online. They supposedly have a variety of “fusion” baklava, but I opted for the crème brûlée, which was an undercooked disappointment.
Somehow, this restaurant was good enough that I was disappointed it...
Read moreWe were attending a conference and were told by a friend this was “Mediterranean fast food” it’s FAST but far from fast food. This is spectacular feast of food! First off the portions are huge! We ordered the Garlic Chicken and Meddys Main Medly with the Lamb and Tabouleh and split it theee ways between three hungry adults and still had leftovers. We enjoyed the food AND service, not to mention the live music 🎶 that we returned the next evening without pause. We also had drinks TGL (mule with ginger beer) and Stone IPA. On night #2 we had the absolute pleasure of getting served by Kami (we hadn’t gotten her name night #1 when she made us aware of the fabulous sauce bar and made recommendations) Kami has all the right attitude, presentation and wonderful personality. Today she had us try the soups and hummus after we ordered babaganoush but we were debating what to try so she made it easy. The hummus was rich creamy and garlicky while the babaganoush had a mild smoky undertone and was mellow by comparison to all the vibrant fresh flavors of all the other choices. The staff is well oiled and even the bartender when not mixing drinks is budding tables and answering questions. There is a definite service minded attitude and positivity that is very apparent and warm here. 10/10...
