I booked a room for new years eve over 2 months ago, knowing that it would be difficult to book hotels last minute. When we showed up to check in, we got a nasty surprise. The receptionist Chloe worded it like “could you help us, the previous guest got ill and overstayed, so you can’t check in. But we’ll move you to a different hotel!” This different hotel was out of the old quarter, had bad reviews saying it was noisy and some people mentioned bedbugs. Of course we said no. Over the course of an hour we argued with them to let us have the room they had already taken payment for. They claimed that no other rooms were available, and kept suggesting other hotels owned by friends of theirs that were both cheaper and worse quality. Chloe was rude and unhelpful and became more and more upset that we would not agree to be relocated to another random hotel for something that was entirely their fault. Finally, they “upgraded” us to a room in the original hotel. Where did this new room magically come from? As we walked through the floors, most of the rooms were empty and doors were ajar. Why were we the people they targeted to relocate hotels? I suspect because we had booked it early they would rather sell the room at an inflated New Year’s Eve rate to someone else. We got there at 2:47pm, probably one of the first groups to check in for that day. The room itself was disappointing. I had read reviews from others saying that the room was very clean and the receptionist Chloe was friendly. Neither were true. The room was in poor condition, peeling walls, holes and dents everywhere, mold on the sink grout, a broken shower faucet. There was a large hole that was poorly covered by an ugly painting. Stains and dust everywhere. Walls were thin and I was woken up multiple times by hallway noise. The hot water runs out after 5 minutes. The rest of the hotel corridors was not much better. Don’t waste your money here, you can get better for the same price anywhere else in Hanoi. We stayed in a different hotel of similar price a few nights ago and the difference was huge.

The biggest advantages of the hotel are the staff and location. All the staff were exceptionally nice and friendly and were always ready to help. The location is perfect, right in the centre of everything. Special thanks to Chloe and Quang at the front desk who were always ready to help and give advice. Breakfast was good, not many western options, but a good choice of yummy local dishes. Apart from the buffet options, you can get freshly made pho with chicken and eggs (scrambled/fried etc.) Room was ok, comfortable bed, nice balcony. Bathroom could be cleaner, but was acceptable. Breakfast served only till 9:30, but that wasn’t an issue for me. Buffet breakfast doesn’t have many western food options, but the local dishes were yummy and enough. Additionally, your can get freshly made pho with chicken and eggs (scrambled/fried, etc.) At the check-out I got a snack for the road (some water and a banana) - a very nice gesture.

Lovely staff, Dissapointing hotel and services. The staff at Hanoi Garden Hotel are so helpful and friendly and provide a great level of service. The location couldn’t get much better, staying right on the doorstep of the old quarter is ideal. The reception and breakfast and dining areas are beautiful. Very quiet and peaceful. However, the services and cleanliness of rooms lets the hotel down. We booked a massage, probably the worst massage of our 4 months in Asia. Afterwards we were pressured to leave a tip. Our laundry came back smelling damp. Our room was quite dirty, had pubes on the floor, dead bugs squashed on the wall and we saw 2 cockroaches. The hotel doesn’t offer good value for money. And at the end staff asked that myself and my girlfriend do not leave a review which is unusual.

Hotel location is perfect which is in heart of old quarters. All tours provides pick up and drop at doorstep of hotel. The area is very congested hence the hotel room don’t have view. Room was pretty small if you opt for 3 beds like queen size and one single bed. No place to keep luggage/open the bags. Breakfast is same all days. We spent 5 days and same food and really got bored. No live counter. They start the breakfast at 7 and if you came around 8 then u’ll get all cold food and they don’t even bother. You don’t expect them to refill it. They simply say it’s finished for the day or we are short of it. If your stay is less than 3 days then it’s good choice else you have many other options in old quarters. Hotel owner was very welcoming with her sweetest smile. All staffs were very good and helpful. We met Ben who is very supportive and kind hearted. Always help with suggesting good eateries and places around Ha Noi. There was a moment that we got currency note with tape and hotel receptionist was not accepting it but Ben came forward and offered us a good note from him pocket. I mean wow.. Ben you stole our heart. You are truly a gentleman. And lastly, we would like to mentioned a receptionist C**[don’t want to disclose her name] who was there in morning shift. We don’t have any hard feelings but the way she treated last three day was really sad. I am not sure what’s her problem. We booked our Bana hill trip from hotel but other trips are reasonably high as compare to the rates offer by Klook so we opted for Klook. After that she keep on sort of ignoring us or always get irritated when attending. 1st two day we requested her to make fresh omelet for my son. But later she denied to provide it. Also this hotel charge fees if we do a card payment but this was not the case with other hotels in Hoi An and Ho Chi Manh. Last day, we called at reception to provide laundry bag as we wanted to pack something and she simply denied it. Hence, we have not used the laundry bag which was provide by default. It just a simple reusable bag. If we stay for 5 days the hotel would have provided 5 to us logically but we don’t expect that and obviously don’t want. We just need one bag. Also for checkout, the night before that day, staff told us that we can checkout at 1pm. And keep our luggage at reception once we checkout. In this also in the morning, she was telling to checkout at 12:30. And when we told about 1pm she was making faces and all and said sharp at 1pm. It seems like she is doing big favour for us. But we told her that we will check out before 1pm. And we actually checkout at 12:40. Her attitude is seriously not acceptable. Again big mistake she made in calculating the bill amount. We paid most of the amount in cash but we were short of cash. So we told her that we will do card payment. And for small amount she said she will not charge the fees to use card. So we paid by card. When we reached airport then she sent a message that there was mistake in calculation by her and we have to pay more. We paid them remaining amount once we reached our home but this is not acceptable what if she would have charged us more and we didn’t realise so request all to recheck and do calculation by yourself. Don’t rely on her or anyone else. Our whole stay in other cities was really good and welcoming but with this one person it was little ruined and will stay in sad part of...
