I've stayed at so many hostels in Vietnam and can honestly say that this is simply the best. The staff ran out to meet me and carried my luggage inside. By the time I walked the few steps to reach the reception desk, I'm handed a cold lemonade that tasted like heaven. The room is sound-proof and once inside, the silence was such a relief from Hanoi's noises. The room, bed and toilet were pristinely cleaned. The complimentary breakfast was generous on portion and options, including eggs with bacons, or sausages, fruits, vegetables, traditional VN breakfast and vegetarian options. Tea, coffee and drinking water are all available for free all day. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive, accommodating and so very lovely. Within minutes, I went from guest to big sister, and I naturally extended my stay. The roof top is the best place to enjoy the craziness of backpackers district, especially the live music below on Friday nights. The location cannot be beat as everything is literally a stone throw away from the hostel.
The best part of this hostel were the other guests, many of whom are long-term guests. For an introvert and a loner, I made so many friends from all over the world. Whenever I come to Hanoi, this will be the only place I'll stay.
UPDATE: DECEMBER, 2023
This is now my 3rd time at Ha Noi Travellers House and again, I am wowed - triple time.
When I left here after my second stay, the staff packed my breakfast and Tammy gave me a delicious VN dessert (sticky rice with moong beans and coconut stuffing steamed in banana leaves) for my morning bus ride to Ha Giang.
This time, I'm leaving on a late afternoon bus. When I went to check out before noon, Tammy offered to waive the late check out fee so I could rest until my pick up time. I declined and offered what I could afford (I'm running low on funds). Tammy counter-offered my counter-offer with the sweetest, " I'm happy to waive the late check out fee for you. You do not have to but if you must, please put whatever amount you'd like in the tip box for the staff."
AMAZING! UH-MAY-ZINGGGG!!!
This shows me 2 things: 1) the cleverness of a good manager and heart of a great hostess: pleasing the guest with the best solution for EVERYONE, and 2) care and heart for people: in this simple act of generosity, Tammy shows the love she has for her guests AND the staff who work for her.
I'm always happy when I come. I'm happier each time I stay. But truth is truth, I am a little sadder each time I leave....
How can I not recommend this place? And if you've read this far, why not book here and see...
Read moreI had a mixed experience while staying here.
On one hand, the staff is very pleasant, attentive and seemingly always ready to help whenever you’re in need of something. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was also very flexible with dates as I had rescheduled our stay about 3 times.
But there was also a couple issues. It had been raining in Hanoi quite a bit, and at night the bathroom would begin to smell very strongly of sewage. The staff tried what they could to ease the smell, but ultimately the problem wasn’t fixable. The solution was to close the bathroom door during the night and get blasted with the smell in the morning.
We asked the hotel to book us bus tickets to Mai Chau. They gave us a price and told us it was a 3 hour trip, but the reality was it took 5 hours because the bus was actually a day trip tour and not a direct bus. I was pretty upset about this and complained, they apologized and said they would check with the bus company. I never heard back. Best to book your own tickets via 12Go.
Otherwise, if you’re booking here, you must know that the hotel is next to a bar that plays music at the most obnoxious volume until 23:30-1:30 at night. The bass from the music was vibrating in our room and ear plugs are useless here. It’s true that you’re in the Old Quarter and it is generally loud, but this was another level. The hotel can’t control this, so it’s not fair to judge them for this, but it’s crucial to know if you’re...
Read moreWe had a fantastic stay at Hanoi Traveller House! Ms. Tamy and her team are incredibly caring and conscientious. More than just a place to stay, this is a great base for your first trip to Hanoi, as the team there are happy to arrange many things for you, and provide insights to help you plan your time! They also really make you feel taken care of and take an interest in your experience. They arranged transport to and from the airport, set us up with a travel sim card, helped us choose and book tours based on the season, and suggested some popular local eats. The hotel is a combination hotel and hostel, so there are private rooms as well as the hostel option. We had a private room, and Tamy understands her market so well, she put us in the right room to meet our needs. The bed was super comfy and the breakfast is great and made to order, with both Vietnamese and western-style dishes accompanied by delicious coffee, tea and juices. The rooftop garden area is a great spot to relax with a coffee or beer any time of day. The location is very central in the Old Quarter, close to a lot of attractions which is perfect for a first-timer. The area itself is very lively on the weekends, so staying here during the week is pretty calm and quiet, but from Thursday night the streets can be noisy into the night. That's the old quarter in Hanoi, it's a busy place! 100 percent...
