Great concept and atmosphere, gin was lovely as was our little charcuterie platter and the night started with a good vibe. The experience however felt rushed and almost like the guests were an inconvenience (who knows maybe understaffed, maybe tired or a bad day, maybe “students” dribbling in late, maybe people talking when it was pertinent to listen so we could all understand the instructions). The classes were either too big (we weren’t even at capacity and the first room felt crowded) or more time needed to be allocated. I really loved the idea of this and had been spruiking it to most people I came across in conversation. My brother who is a chemist, bought gin school tickets for my wife and I for Christmas and we finally used it to celebrate one of our little anniversaries. The lighting is lovely, really plush seating and cool decor. I really enjoyed the experience of making my own flavor of gin and picking botanicals. It was a sensory delight. I thought I didn't like gin, turns out I'd just never had a good one! They bought out 4 different cocktails which were all delicious and described the chemistry behind the flavor profiles. The group was too large and consequently instruction were rushed through, particularly during distillation, and did not ensure all participants were up to the relevant stage and had the instructions or able to attend to all questions as needed. This led to errors or incomplete outcomes. A written set of instructions to supplement verbal and allow people to check they were doing the right thing might be useful.
