This café has quickly become my go-to weekend spot, and for good reason. You can tell the team genuinely puts thought and care into what they do.
The current menu strikes the right balance between creativity and simplicity, offering just enough variety without being overwhelming. Their signature bagel is a standout even for someone like me who doesn't usually go for sweet treats.
The vibe here is relaxed yet vibrant, making it the perfect place to unwind or catch up with big group of friends. The staff are friendly, attentive, and quick on their feet, even during the busy morning rush.
Their pour-over coffee can be hard to order when it gets. crowdy but it's worth the wait. Bean options are also interesting and wide. Ask the barista for more stories. Worth the chat.
That said, the interior setup does have its downsides. If you choose to sit inside, be prepared for the kitchen’s oil smells to cling to your clothes and hair. It’s a bit of a trade-off for the otherwise cosy atmosphere.
Another big plus is their social media presence. It’s not flashy, but it’s clear and consistent, something surprisingly rare in Brisbane’s café scene. They always update trading hours during public holidays or when there are changes. It’s such a small detail, but it shows they respect their customers’ time.
Hopefully with a few tweaks to the ventilation and ordering flow, the cafe would be...
Read moreI have only ever heard one complaint about The Hideout Specialty Coffee. I introduced a friend to their coffee (African Mailman blend) and now she can't enjoy coffee from her old, more conveniently located cafe and has to go out of her way every morning. So I guess, if you want to keep your taste buds in blissful ignorance, don't get a coffee here. But beware the double bind -- you'll also remain ignorant of bliss!
It's not just the coffee. It's the people. All of the staff are passionate about their craft and genuinely friendly. I have been making coffee at home for 15 years and I learned and improved more by chatting with the baristas here (and attending a few of the cupping events they host) than when I took a paid course! Because this is such a superb cafe (I say the best in Brisbane!), it also attracts a clientele of coffee enthusiasts. Maybe a strange thing to mention in a review, but a good cafe is a community. Sitting at the filter bar, I have made new friends and had fulfilling conversations, only about half of them about the coffee. How many cafes in a CBD create the space for that? Hideout is unique in the best way. If you're reading this trying to decide where to go for coffee, breakfast, or lunch in the city, I promise you've found...
Read moreThis is the second time I've brought my family to Brisbane this year, and we've visited this
establishment several times over these two weeks. The food is rather ordinary, nothing particularly impressive, though the portions are quite generous—a point in their favor. However, the bacon was rather thin, and charging extra for additional bacon seemed rather steep. My son and I ended up sharing a breakfast.
The coffee was quite good. I suspect they use a different milk compared to other places. The server went on about various coffee beans, but I'm afraid I didn't quite catch it all. My coffee wasn't quite hot enough, though it had a lovely sweet aroma. My son's babycino was a tad too hot, and the poor lad burned himself.
I noticed they've changed their croissant style since my last visit. Surprisingly, the taste is remarkably better now—even superior to some of the bakeries we've tried in Melbourne. The almond croissant, in particular, had this exquisite almond paste inside, quite distinct from what one finds elsewhere. We purchased an egg tart last week, with a custard filling so silky smooth it reminded me of those I once savored in Denmark, sadly didn’t...
