Gin School — Local services in Brisbane City

This was a really interesting and fun and unique experience to share with some girlfriends on a Sunday afternoon. We were really looking forward to it. The experience was good and had the potential to be excellent but was severely tarnished by the unprofessional and condescending teacher of the class, Adam.

He was rude and treated the whole class like children. He would yell at people for talking, threaten to kick them out of class, and ask them if they wanted to get up and teach the class whenever someone spoke to their friend or partner. We were all adults choosing to be there on our free time and we were paying a lot of money to be there - I didn’t pay to be made fun of and condescended to. I felt like a child being scolded on the classroom.

It was very unpleasant and unprofessional and was the only thing that really ruined an otherwise great experience.

I did this class with my partner and a mate. My partner has done it before also, when the classes were much smaller. I personally found the class size was too big for any kind of attention from the instructors - it was a rush trying to choose botanicals as there were too many people trying to shuffle around a room that is too small and many botanicals missing. I also missed instructions or it wasn't told that we didn't always have to use everything in the botanical sachet - so my gin, which has nutmeg in it, is basically a nutmeg gin I don't feel the price of the course was good value for the experience that I had, especially knowing what the school was like...

Overall a great experience. All of the staff are very knowledgeable. Class size was a bit too big. The problem with this was, not enough time for everyone to smell/taste the botanicals to formulate their gin flavour. Then in the actual gin making part of the class, I couldn't hear everything that was being instructed as the one instructor was at the other end of a table of about 18-20 people. The cocktails included were all quite sweet. Most gin drinkers are not sweet tooth's an I would suggest offering a sweet or not sweet option?
