This was our very first overnight stay in Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. Location wise, access is fantastic, coffee, food and other great amenities are within easy walking distance, both inside and outside the hospital grounds. The hospital is beautifully designed, with gorgeous Southbank Parklands just across the road. Our room even came with this amazing view. But it's so much more than the gorgeous architecture, and magical views. I am absolutely appreciative of the high level of care, and support LCCH provided, not only for my child, but myself as well. The health, comfort and safety of my son was placed at the forefront of their care. All staff members we encountered during our stay, were highly skilled, positive, professional people who clearly love their work, and who place great value, in their unique ability to work together - as a close knit team. From the tireless Specialists, through to the dedicated medical teams, the busy pharmacists, the super caring and helpful volunteers, and the hardworking hospital workers who serve the meals, clean, handle the paperwork or maintain the wards and buildings - they care deeply for every child under their care. All staff were highly respectful of my child, they fully engaged with him, they took the time to listen carefully to his concerns, repeatedly reassuring him if he had any questions to simply ask. He felt safe, comforted and supported at all times. LCCH is at the forefront of innovative medical care and technology, as a parent you want your child's health and welfare to be in the best possible hands. Your child will be safe, respected and well cared for - and your stress levels will be significantly lowered. My thanks to all LCCH staff members - you're all outstanding people!

After having a great experience at the NICU for numerous weeks, my wife and I were looking forward to spending time in 9B as we were allowed to stay the night until our baby boy was discharged. However, that, the care from our surgical team and the allied health team was the only great experience we had at QCH. We did experience a couple of great nurses throughout our time there though, but unfortunately we both felt the nurse care and support was not there. The change overs each day were completely different and wrong, it took a long time to get help when we buzzed (luckily they weren't any emergencies), things were often forgotten or we were told wrong times for when things will be done, we were told cares would be very 4 hours (but this was rarely completed), there was also less optimal/hygienic technique with certain procedures and to top things off, we were given someone elses milk when we were discharged (See the image). Obviously, for confidentiality reasons I blacked out the name. Thankfully, my wife and I both work in the health care system, and we both knew what to do and looked after ourselves. We both hope that no one ever experiences what we went through and that the staff improve their values, procedures and care.

I recently visited this hospital and was disappointed to learn that my son's medical records and documents were lost during the transfer from physical to digital storage. This is a frustrating and unacceptable situation, as it means that years of important medical information has been misplaced. In addition to this issue, I must also address the exorbitant cost of parking at this facility. At $18 per hour, it is truly astonishing that a hospital would charge such a steep fee to patients and their families. This is especially concerning for those who are struggling financially and may already be under a great deal of stress due to their medical concerns. Despite these issues, I must give credit where it is due. The care provided by the doctors and medical staff at this hospital was excellent. After a lengthy wait in the waiting room, we were finally able to see a doctor and receive the necessary treatment. For this reason, I am willing to overlook the aforementioned issues and give the hospital a rating of 3 stars.

I was appalled with the way I was treated here by the Nurse Practitioner Elaine McKibbin and Attending Clinician Fiona Thomson, I went into the ED on the 25-10-2025 due to my 2 year old son breaking his leg coming down a tube slide at the park, Initially Elaine asked what happened which I explained to the best of my knowledge what happened and that he will need an x-ray, she touched his leg and due to him not reacting looked at me as if I was wasting there time, I than explained that he is physically unable to bare weight onto it and his leg was buckling backwards at the knee joint, she than asked me to get him up to show her which I did, she than proceeds to say he will need an x-ray, I ask how long it will take as I also had my 7 week old breastfed baby with me and my 7 year old with me whilst dad was at home with our other 3 children, she claimed that they should get us up there quick for the x-ray and I was than told it would take about 10 minutes to get the images back, we went for the x-ray and as I left the lady who did his x-ray said the exact words "they will have the scans straight away" Almost 2 hours go by my son had enough of being strapped in the pram as he's a very active boy so he was screaming, I was trying to feed and comfort my newborn who was unsettled I had other nurses holding my newborn so I could comfort my son which was very helpful but was only for short intervals as they also had work to get done, Elaine and Fiona come back finally and explain he had 2 breaks, 1 at the top under his knee and 1 above his ankle, to me that made sense because his foot got stuck on the side of the tube slide and he kept going down whilst his leg went the other direction, they both proceeded to say they will need to call child protective services as my story doesn't add up with the breaks and normally they would see a spiral fracture, I was in absolute shock!! Of course I said that's fine because I knew the truth, they than put a cast on my son's leg and I than called my partner to bring our other 3 children up so he could explain his side as he went down the slide with him, and have him bring my iPad with the footage leading up to the incident as I had taken videos and photos of the kids at the park time stamped just before we went up there, he got a phone call from child protective services to get his side as he was on his way up just for them to say they had no concerns, when I went back into the room Elaine came in and said that they received the call that they had no concerns and that I could finally leave, I started to cry not out of relief but out of hurt that they assumed I was lying about how my poor son had got hurt Elaine proceeded to say I know it's scary, I was in no way scared of child services as I had not done anything wrong I was hurt that I was made out to be a liar when there was nothing else showing signs that my children are in need of protection. I was than told I HAVE to bring my son back to that hospital if anything happens to his cast and frankly I don't want to go anywhere near there again! I chose to go here instead of Ipswich as I was hoping for the best quickest help I could get for my son and now I'm regretting my decision and I wish I...

My Daughter whom is a Foster child was admitted for surgery back in Sept this year. On admission the hospital staff were CLEARLY informed multiple times by the child safety supervising officer that legally the mother (myself) is LEGAL GUARDIAN and the carer (her grandmother) is a CARER whom is instructed by the department and should adhere to their role. So, I sat with my daughter in ED for over 15 hours until she was admitted to the children's ward. I spent 3 days there with my daughter until on the third day her grandmother spawned her way upto the ward where I awoke and overheard conversation from behind the bedside curtain between the staff and the carer, my mother. Iam estranged from my mother whom is abusive and very manipulative (I experienced neglect, child abuse and SA in her care). I dont trust her with my children. Lady Cilento Hospital security guards were instructed to remove me from the ward assissted by the social worker in tow. I packed up my belongings in the baby's pram in tears and was physically escorted all the way out to the back entrance of the hospital, the social worker and security stood at the entrance until I had well and truly left. This experience was so traumatic for not only myself but also my toddler. The department had instructed her grandmother to not present to the hospital until further notice to confirm the babys discharge from hospital staff (as it was a weekend also). Upon her discharge I was NOT provided ANY after care instructions or any updates on her health or any information regarding her admission. They refused to release any information to myself. After many attempts of trying to contact the hospital, I was told they had made a mistake in the babys file, naming her grandmother as primary carer. They apologised and recognised their fault via email. The only resolution they offered was to make a complaint and wait for a response which is taking month's now. Iam sharing my story as to avoid this happening ever again to any parent or their children. The whole experience has truly impacted my opinion of Lady Cilento Children's Hospital and my confidence as a mother. I hope this story helps anything similar happening on the future to...

Absolutely amazing staff, facilities and care. Cannot thank them enough for their support during a scary time

01/04/24 Edited due to a terrible experience recently. The Oncology ward 5C needs a huge wake up call. No one there has a clue what they are doing and don’t communicate well with other departments. It’s scary enough when your child is being referred for a possible cancer diagnosis but when the people MEANT to be helping you not only don’t, but don’t particularly care either, it’s terrifying. Every single test or appointment has only occurred because I have had to chase everything up myself over the last month. This was meant to have been done by a nurse liaison, but no one can tell me who this person is or why we still don’t have one. The only reason I found out when our first appointment with a doctor was, was because the lovely staff in Imaging followed it up on my behalf. A week ago we were told our next appointment is for tomorrow and ‘someone’ would be in touch as to time etc, I still have not heard and no one is answering the phone in 5C. The reception staff were so clueless when I last tried to get their help that they thought we were from out of town and staying at RMCH (with one of the women pointing to my outfit and saying ‘you look like you’re from across the road’ whatever that’s meant to mean, I’m guessing she meant that I looked too casual, despite them knowing I’d just been in an MRI with my son where you can’t have any metal on your body or clothes because of the magnetic field) and cheerfully told me that couldn’t tell me anything as ‘there’s nothing on his file but his name, DOB, address and your contact details. Didn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Not to mention the run around we’ve been given regarding test results being ‘fine’ then ‘concerning’ then ‘fine’ again, repeat ad infinitum. It’s like they don’t understand that children and parents are frightened and need support. Am considering a...
