I arrived at your Southbank store with a very keen appetite. The menu looked great, the place looked pumping and the choices all sounded delicious. My friend and I were greeted by a waitress who barely spoke good English... all good friendly enough. She explained she was going to get us a table made up ASAP. After making the table up we were shown to a table to be offered some water while we waited for our food and drinks we ordered. The water came it and it was as hot as a Sahara desert on a warm summers day. The glasses did not have ice so we drank literally hot tap water until our drinks order came through... We got our “starter” the rubbish fries. And they certainly lived up to there name. ABSOLUTLEY RUBBISH. They were stone cold, rock hard and 100% not edible. We looked across to retrieve our made up table with cutlery... no cutlery at all so the waitress didn’t make the table up at all. The waitress came out with my burger so I asked if the fries were meant to be cold. She said no and apologised and said she would get me a fresh basket made. Great I thought, no worries at all I’ll wait the 5-10 minutes for some nice hot fries with cheese and bacon bits. Little less than 2 minutes later a “fresh” basket of rubbish fries came out.... bit quick I chuckled as I proceeded to taste the first of the new hot fries. Much to my disappointment they were just as cold if not even colder than the first batch, rock hard and also found a few that were completely translucent/white in colour hence UNCOOKED. My burger was also cold. We got up, leaving our cold and non edible food on the table and proceeded to the counter where we expected a manger or someone to offer to only pay half the bill or a portion of it as we literally ate nothing and had the fries remade and were still even worse then the first batch. We were asked how our meals were. I explained the issues we had and all we got was “im sorry you had that experience your total for today is $42” I paid $42 for essentially 2 glasses of coke. We ate all up maybe 5 individual fries from 2 full baskets just to try them and see if they were edible and 2 bites of a burger. The waitresses and waiters were all well aware of my issues and not once were we offered any sort of compensation or discount. I will not be recommending you to anyone I know if that is the experience...
Read moreI give it a healthy average rating. When the brand changed from southside diner to brooklyn depot, the menu slowly changed over. Unfortunately it meant some favourites were either listed but were always told were not available, or were phased out conpletely. It's too small for southbank and is either packed or they close off half the seating and put me at the bar which is awkward for eating, so I favour takeaway or delivery. More often than not I get a call if there's an issue with my order. It's great to get a call about it but they alternatives suggested normally sneak by the fact that the original items were worth more. You have to be switched on about it because I was told they'd credit me through the payment service one time (they didn't) then just put the difference in the bag another time. The staff chop and change. When dining in they're friendly and lively but more with eachother than with patrons. On the flipside there's a manager or supervisor there that almost negs you for not drinking or for wanting takeaway With a group it's still tricky getting service. We made a joke about leaning out of the booth and calling TAXI! And hey, it worked. You'd think that by reserving a spot it would ensure attentive service. I love the food, but they have changed a lot and the menu seems to be shrinking. No Nashville burger (RIP sniff), no truffle mac n cheese, only fried macaroni balls and a seafood version I can't eat. No shakes, no cherry pie.
I'm still a regular customer, but for this review I have to say it's dressed up but nothing flashy. It might be a staffing issue, a management issue, or ongoing challenges since they replaced Southside Diner. Don't be too expectant or disappointed. Still good for a start to...
Read moreFollow up edit in response to owner: I appreciate the response. However saying the promo was still on offer at other stores is deceptive.
It is not written anywhere, I wouldn't be surprised if I went to another location and got hit with the same too bad so sad response... Because it's not written anywhere.
So let's be real, an edit to a website does not take much. A few clicks and typing a generic disclaimer, save and all done.
While yes we had the choice to go somewhere else. My point was when you are lazy and don't update the website to make a quick buck, you are shafting your customers. That laziness does make it intentional.
Attitude from the owners stinks tbh.
Original review: So the website advertises kids eat free on Mondays. No where does it say not during school holidays.
So we decide as a family to come here after a swim and we are then informed that they don't run this promotion.
Again I will say, the website does not have this condition in the promotion. We explain this to the staff, and he agrees that it is "confusing" and that it incorrectly states this on the website. So after acknowledging that the website states that. They still refuse to honour the deal. Blaming head office lol.
So while we understand restaurants do this during school holidays. We made a choice to come here, hype the kids up and we this is what we're met with.
Food is good as usual but kind of a sour taste after this.
I hate the be one of those people who say false advertising. But it kinda was.
Advertised as a family friendly eatery but shaft the familes at point of sale after you have decided on what to eat.
Funny thing is we would have spent more than what we did with the deal than we did...
