For a bit of context, I am an avid believer of a "pair of shoes for life" ethos. I love the idea of having a pair of shoes that will last 10,20,30 years. However, a decent cobbler is critical to being able to maintain a pair of shoes for this long.
Enter Mister Minit - located at the end of town hall station (near the florist). Chong served me as I brought to him my favourite pair of brown brogues (my only pair admittedly) - I had worn away the top portion of the sole (near the toes), and I was worried they'd be beyond repair.
Chong mentioned he could fashion a replacement toe piece (which I'm very happy with), and to make matters worse I had snapped the laces too that morning. Without prompting, Chong said "leave it with me". I paid a VERY reasonable price and left the shoes in his hands.
I just got the shoes back today and I'm incredibly impressed with the workmanship - I have two other black brogues (that I hope to keep forever or until they literally fall apart) that I will bring in if they ever need work.
My only gripe (and hence 4 stars and not 5) is that I brought shoes in on a Wednesday and was promised them by the end of the week (Friday). I had to call the shop the following Tuesday to chase them up, otherwise who knows how long I would have been waiting for a status update. Maybe a lesson in...
Read moreI have used the same shoe repair service for 30 years until one day we were walking the Sydney CBD Town Hall Train Station and walked past the Mister Minit Pavilion Shoe Repair Service at the southern end of the station. As we approached I watched the attendant on the grinding machine, I had to stop and admire the attention, focus and ability he had. Being a demanding and fastidious engineer myself, I always find it a wonderful thing to visualise a tradesman of any profession using his tools correctly, safely and with proficiency and dexterity, particularly when working on high end luxury products. As Iâm sure most engineers would attest, itâs not only the expertise required to finalise a job professionally, it is your choice of materials and quality of finish. We have now been using this service for several years since meeting Chong, the proprietor of this particular Mister Minit Pavilion Shoe Repair Service, he is always accommodating and professional in his manner, such an absolute pleasure in these difficult times. We have entrusted Chong with our most valued and cherished Rick Owens shoes and boots costing well into the thousands of dollars each. Chongâs finish and attention to detail is well above average, an...
Read moreHighly recommended for their excellent service!
Over the years I have gone to various repair shops across the Sydney CBD depend on where I worked in the city at the time, but have found myself sticking to Chong's service because of his quality work and service. I first used his service back when he worked in Mister Minuit in Centrepoint Westfield about 6-7 years ago, and continue to go to him for repair works when he moved to the Pavilion store.
Even though I no longer work in the city these days, I still rather travel for an hour just to go to his store and team whenever I need a job done. He and his team always give the best recommendation for each job and will go above and beyond with their service delivery. Once I went over to repair the zipper of my favourite pair of boots cause I ripped it, Chong recommended a much cheaper option to repair the existing zipper. Guess what, it's still going strong over...
