We came to Vienna for 4 days and wanted to see a classical music concert while here. Our tour guide showed us Mozart House and recommended this as a venue. It looked nice and intimate, so we decided to give it a try.
I was a bit anxious beforehand, as we have 10 and 13 year old kids and I wasn't sure how they'd do sitting still and listening to 90 minutes of orchestral music. But, it was perfect. The musicians, a trio of piano, violin and cello, were all quite skilled and expressive in their playing. They choose an excellent selection of music with different pieces from the baroque, classical and romantic periods. The music was a selection from famous composers, including Bach, Mozart and Hayden, as well as some I did not know before, and none were overplayed or cliched. The pieces were all short, 4-8 minutes long, so it was easy to stay engaged, and there was a 10 minute intermission halfway through that allowed us all to get up and stretch our legs. This ended up being the highlight of our time in Vienna.
Strongly recommend as a...
Read moreBad experience. It is a tourist trap, wrapped in golden leafs. On first of March, the moment we entered into contact with the staff we understood what it was all about. The boy who showed us the room donwstairs, who looked like taken rashly from the street, together with his North Face puffer, reminded us why we don't want to go to the Istanbul Grand Bazaar anymore.
The shady description of the history of this room on their website is pure shameless marketing. In reality it looks like a transformed cellar, with floor tiles like from my grandmom's bathroom, and the real story never truly revealed.
As for the music, almost all performers looked like underpayed students from all over, trying their best but not quite reaching anywhere with their music. Clothes open, trying to sync and hit the right notes, but shredding the musical pieces nonetheless.
We were foooled here. How can this have so many stars and be so highly regarded in comments? Avoid it. Really. Go to other reputed places, this is a staged robbery....
Read moreActually one of the true highlights of our trip to Vienna!! Maybe 30 people in this beautiful Sala Terrena makes it so special. The program was excellent (clap only after the last movement of each piece… some have 4) There was a small intermission with drinks for purchase and a coat room to hang your things.
The Sala is warm, you won’t need it. We did get a little lost getting there due to construction on the other side of the street. We end up going down an alley and to the second door on your right (if you’ve missed the main entrance). We paid the extra EU for front row seats, if you’re gonna go, I’d do it this way again.
Please please be respectful of the rules and the musicians and don’t record during the concert. It is so rude and the woman next to me decided it was her entitlement to try and secretly record most of the concert. Hugely distracting, sound on her on/off button, screen shining and just...
