With the opening of Johny’s Pork Shack this month, Blowers Street gets another amazing late night food option.
Customers are greeted by a small yet charming interior featuring BBQ signage. The interior has wood as a focus. The place is primarily take-out oriented, with only enough space inside for 2 or 3 people to sit horizontally next to each other to eat.
The staff is friendly and are happy to answer questions and recommend options. This put me at ease very quickly since I have some anxiety getting acquainted to a new space and menu.
My wait time after ordering was under 5 minutes. The food came in a paper takeout box, which I was able to take to a bench on the nearby pedestrian-only Argyle street. Make sure to grab some utensils and napkins from your left before heading out.
I’ve tried one item on the menu so far: The Pork Ribs with Smoky BBQ sauce. Considering both the taste and portion size, it’s impressive they priced this under $15. A photo of the meal is provided with the photo below. The pork ribs hit all of the right marks for me… tender and paired excellently with the smoky BBQ sauce. The coleslaw is quite different tasting compared to standard fare… it blends well with the bbq sauce and enhances the meal. The corn on the cob didn’t have anything special, but was cooked perfectly and was juicy.
You can also freely add additional sides in case you’re super hungry, and you may be able to swap out the sides too.
Blowers Street now benefits from having a southern cuisine food vendor, helping it stand out from the competition nearby. The fan favourite Willy’s takeout right across the street has some serious competition here… I think Johny’s has now converted me over. I highly recommend Johny’s Pork Shop and wish the owners great success with this...
Read moreJohnny’s Pork Shack in Halifax is my absolute favorite go-to spot, especially during those late-night cravings. This place never disappoints with its delicious offerings. Food: The bao and dumplings are simply outstanding. The bao buns are soft and fluffy, filled with perfectly seasoned pork that melts in your mouth. The dumplings are equally impressive, with a delicate wrapper and a flavorful filling that keeps you coming back for more. The menu offers a variety of other pork-centric dishes, but the bao and dumplings are my top picks. Service: The service at Johnny’s Pork Shack is always friendly and efficient. The staff are attentive and make sure your order is prepared just the way you like it. Even during busy hours, they manage to keep things running smoothly. Ambiance: The ambiance is casual and laid-back, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy your meal. The decor is simple yet inviting, and the atmosphere is always lively, especially at night. Overall: Johnny’s Pork Shack is a must-visit for anyone in Halifax looking for delicious, comforting food. The bao and dumplings are a standout, and the overall experience is fantastic. I highly recommend this place to anyone craving some...
Read moreSeriously delicious food ribs and more! Perfect for take aways and a late night snack. I highly recommend the Baobun Sandwiches and Quesadillas (I ate them too quickly and didn’t take a pic 🤣). This spot is just quaintly located across the Sicilian Pizza on Blowers street and is the best joint in that corner in my opinion! Their menu items have such an awesome concept especially for a late night out such as: Walking Doritos - Nachos in a bag, Meat Mash Sundae - mashed potatoes with gravy and meat, and their Bao Sandwiches. All are a must try! The chilli garlic sauce...
