Booked a firm massage with Shaina. Arrived early as advised and found the place in the maze of halls from the main hotel entrance. While the wayfinding signs are mostly great, the one at the exit to the pools is confusing. It is above the door, but next to a stairwell and just points down. If you are not a hotel guest, you can't use a room card to get out to the pools (the obvious exit control) so need to press the button on the nondescript intercom next the door, wait for them to respond, and get buzzed in. A sign on the intercom would be more helpful. Once inside, it was lovely. The front desk staffer was very helpful in letting me know where everything was. The (off season) pool fee was $75, so I declined (have a free pass to the public pool from my hotel anyway). Flavored water was available in the lobby and the waiting room had a selection of teas and hot chocolate with comfortable chairs and peaceful music. My masseuse Shaina was very professional and had clearly read my booking notes about my focus areas and allergies. We determined that the Indian spice products would be fine, though she was fully prepared to use scent free oils which I appreciated. The room was peaceful and Shaina made sure to check that I liked the table heat and the pressure levels. While I usually take more pressure from my RMT, I didn't want to walk away (good) sore on vacation like I often do at home, but it was plenty firm to work out kinks I didn't even know were there. I especially loved the scalp and foot work. And the hot towels were heaven. I was very impressed with Shaina's draping skills too. Everything she wasn't actively working on remained tightly wrapped so I was never cold. Once done, I loved that I wasn't rushed out of the treatment room and was advised to get up slowly to readjust as it allowed me to maintain my new calm as I wrapped up. Shaina met me outside, offered me more flavored water, and invited me to rest a bit more in the waiting room if I wanted. She also recommended taking the next hour to relax and said the walk to the hot Spring source was pleasant and the hot Spring pools there were a local favorite. I appreciated the advice and care to enrich my...
Read moreI have to admit I'm pretty disappointed in my experience. I booked their Indulgence package, which is worth a pretty penny. I saved up my tips and looked forward to treating myself to a nice spa day and it did not live up to expectations. Upon arrival I didn't get to put anything into lockers and no robes or anything were offered, when booking a spa day that is 4.5 hours long why would you not offer lockers for your guests items? I understand it is located at a hotel and many guests have rooms but not everyone does, this is a pretty basic spa amenity that is seriously lacking. My massage and facial were very nice, no complaints at all. I was given 1 hour for lunch and I wanted to make use of their Sauna / Steam room on site, the desk girls finally gave me a robe to wear and sent me off to the public area of the pools where the sauna is located. I get changed walk into the room and its not working. I went back to the desk and they now tell me that its been not working for 3 DAYS. Why did your staff send me there fully knowing that I planned on going in there when its been broken for days?! No signage on the door or anything either. The package also includes a lunch, but all they did was give me a gift card for their restaurant on site, so I had to get changed back into my regular clothing just to get my included lunch. I was sent to the "Lakeside Cafe" upon arriving, there was no one in there - a ghost town. I had to walk into the back kitchen just to talk to someone. They told me the restaurant was closed for a conference so I had to go to their bar and order food from there. The bar menu is definitely smaller so my selections were pretty small. The service at the bar was good but the whole communication issue is definitely an issue. After lunch I head back to the spa to get my manicure / pedicure. The services themselves were nice but the polish job was sloppy, 2nd coat didn't even cover my whole nail so its separating and layered funny. It's only been 4 days since my appointment and its already chipping.
Overall just a disappointing experience. Not worth the money paid. I won't be back and I will be sure to warn...
Read moreOf all the massages I've had, this place has got to be the worst! Super unprofessional for the prices they're charging. And they're not even RMTs!
First off, the husband had booked a birthday getaway to Harrison, complete with a couples massage. He NEVER gets a massage with me, so this was a nice suprise.
We arrived 10 mins early and filled out the forms, and were told to have a seat. 10 minutes into waiting, one of the masseuses came in to tell us that the other masseuse was stuck in traffic and we could not have a couples massage. We HAD to each get an individual massage or else our couples massage wouldn't be the full hour because their staff was late. So off my husband went, as I continued to wait for my late masseuse.
When she finally arrived, she rushed me into the room (no apology for being late). She mentioned that she didnt have time to turn on the heated bed, so it would be cold. She then proceeded to massage me with her FREEZING cold hands, and a super cold lotion. She also put a salt scrub on my back(without asking) and wiped it off like she was wiping the floor. Nothing relaxing about it at all. The massage felt rushed and robotic. Everytime she lifted the blanket, it was quite aggressive like she was in a hurry. The absolute last part was after she massaged my feet with lotion, she proceeded to massage my FACE without washing her hands first! I had also forgotten to take off my necklace, and she proceeded to massage my neck with the necklace on, lotion and all. Everytime she massaged up my neck she was choking me with my necklace. It was the longest hour, and I could not wait for my massage to be over.
I got changed and walked myself out to the lobby. The reception staff were very nice and offered us a $12 discount on the massage for the "trouble". This is probably the only point where they earn the 1 star.
2 days after the massage, both my husband and I feel like we've been beaten up. I have more kinks than I went there with, and will probably need to find a proper RMT to fix it.
My advice: enjoy the springs and the pools, but save your money on...
