Harrison is full of small restaurants that have been there for some time. Some of them take it for granted that there aren't more choices and don't try anymore. That's definitely NOT the case with this restaurant. I've tried several of the restaurants in this area, and this is by far one of the best ones, and it's easy to see why. I went for breakfast today and the atmosphere is great, clean and comfortable seating with the option of inside or patio tables. All their condiment bottles were clean and NOT sticky which happens quite often in many of the restaurantshere. The table was clean and they're friendly to having dogs in the patio. I ordered the big breakfast that came with three eggs, all the meats, potatos, toast and a salad. I like my eggs and these were great. The meats did not taste old as some other restaurants in the area do, and their potatos are awesome. The value for my meal was really good. But that's not even the best part. The service is amazing! I've been to a few restaurants in Harrison and it always seems that there aren't enough people serving the tables. That's NOT the case here. There were two waitresses that seemed to tag team around the place. I then saw another girl who happened to catch my eye when I needed something and she came to help me. My water glass was always full and they checked on us often. The waitress was very helpful in giving choices that would give me what I wanted cheaper. For example, she recommended two side orders of pancakes for my kids, which was more than enough.
Great quality food and their service is enough for me to recommend this place, but the added great service makes this restaurant one of the TOP choices here at Harrison. I would recommend you visit this restaurant at least once. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you to all the staff. Keep it up!
2025 Update: The restaurant has expanded their outside seating. All their staff still super friendly and the food is amazing. Food is cooked perfectly and it's plated to look well. Definitely go check it out. It's such a...
Read moreMy friend recommended that we have breakfast here (his last recommendation didn’t hold up IMO, but I decided not to hold that against him). I ended up solo as the family decided to sleep in and my stomach did not.
A cosy and welcoming patio greet you, and if it’s full plunk yourself down next door at the Picnic cafe.
The service staff are attentive and pleasant. I was quickly seated after a table cleaning. I ended up having to take a call and had to ask the staff to wait for 5 min before taking my order. They quickly returned. And I ordered the Benny and coffee. They asked if medium was okay and after clarifying what that meant to them I was AOK with that.
Coffee arrived in less than a minute, and the wonderful smells from the kitchen primed my appetite.
For me it would have been hard to pick a better morning for a patio breakfast. A breeze reminded me its graceful presence and I could gauge the speed of the wind by the windsock on the beach that was in view. A great little spot to people watch and enjoy the surroundings.
The food arrived promptly. My server followed up to ask if it was prepared as expected. It was. Slightly set yolk that is still runny. The hollandaise was beautiful thin with tiny bubbles. It had a nice tanginess that balanced the dish wonderfully.
The potatoes are what my mother in law has been doing lately. I think she calls the smashed. I like the crispy out side and the soft middle. They are good.
If only to split hairs, the salad was fresh and very good. I would up the acidity a little for brightness and add a touch of sweetness. A couple berries would have sang to me.
The quality of what they are doing here, the energy of the staff tells me these people really care about what they are doing, maybe even love. I’m have been to some resort places and it’s like they stopped caring. The business will come. The tourist trap. This is its antithesis. It is heart and soul to do this thing to the best of their...
Read moreFood was horribly bland, overpriced, greasy and just generally not appetizing. Had a burger personally but our whole table had quite a few things from the menu and it was consistent feedback from the table.
Service/atmosphere: THIS WAS SHOCKING. I have never been to a food service establishment where I witnessed the owner treat their staff the way I saw this weekend. We were eating on the patio and had a lovely young lady serving us. She was very busy and seemingly doing a lot of the work herself. The owner kept popping by to tell her the jobs she wasn’t doing, how the place looked like a mess because of her, how she wasn’t keeping up or working fast enough, etc etc the list goes on. He kept on her constantly, even while she was literally taking our orders! He would barge past her while belittling her, right in front of customers. It was absolutely insane to see this level of disrespect to staff. My friend saw the young lady bawling her eyes out and going to the bathroom after all of this. While I don’t know the whole story, the lack of professionalism from the gentleman (I use this term loosely - who we found out later was the owner) was just too much. The lady serving us said it right when she apologized to our table for how rude it was.
While the food wasn’t great, some of us may have considered returning based on a good experience otherwise.
We did not have this, and in turn all agreed we would NEVER return to a place where the staff are belittled in this way.
I don’t say this often but I hope this owner has some sort of reality check and learns how to treat people.
What an absolute mess.
Note: I have heard and also saw in a previous review that the owner also collects tips from their tip pool because he’s ‘serving’ (ie: walking around pretending to be useful, but actually just belittling the staff).
Do not support a place that treats their staff this way! Do...
