The Den Quality Goods & Refillery — Local services in Ucluelet

The Den in the stunning ocean village of Ucluelet (known affectionately to locals as Ukee) on the west coast of Vancouver Island is an absolute delight to engage with & buy from. Indeed it is one of the most welcoming places I have stepped into. It is named perfectly — a den is the kind of place we love & it is not for nothing that the most comforting room in a home where we like to tuck ourselves into is called the den. Staff are charming & gracious in their interactions on the phone & in store. Staffers Nikki & Lexie are impressive, as the business with its focus of sustainability is inspiring. At its core it is a Refillery at which one can get refills for most of the wide range of products it stocks. The Den offers food stuff to cleaning to skin care & more. All are of quality & in line with its mission of sustainability. It opened five years ago & this past March co-owners, Diane & Kristen, opened another location in Tofino, just 26 miles north of Ukee. I was looking for the products created by the wonderful foragers, Forest for Dinner, which they carry. It also is an important stockist of cleaning products, which it supplies to the many B&Bs, which operate in these stunning ocean villages, & draw many visitors to it shores. I discovered The Den products while staying at an Airbnb in Ucluelet. I also operate three short term rentals and wanted to carry a high quality, local bath product (we are in WA state). I ordered shampoo, conditioner and body wash - all in one-gallon sizes.

The products lasted me almost 9 months of nearly 100% occupancy. I was a little overwhelmed at my initial $ investment in product, but now that I see how long it lasts, I know that I would have "broken even" if I had purchased individual bottles of an inferior product. PLUS - not for nothing... refills are better for the environment.

The product is great - we use the Cedar and Sage scent and our guests (and we) love it! I look forward to taking a little road trip to get my gallon bottles refilled in the store, but until then, shipping is easy,...

I really love my local refillery (Nanaimo) so naturally I popped in to the den while on vacation. I had such a lovely visit to the tofino shop that I had to check out the larger store in Ucluelet the next day. The shops and staff are so welcoming and your products are beautiful. I love how conscious you are about actual sustainability. I do hope to see your brand down island someday but I’m certain I’ll be back to fill up on facial products when I’m back to the West...
