Ucluelet Co-op General Store — Local services in Ucluelet

Most rude staff I have ever encountered. Went there at 9:30am with my son. Walk to the front door and there is a big sign that says 60+ and First Responders 9-10am. The staff at the door asks me if I'm a first responder. I answer honestly and say I am a military veteran. He is confused and goes inside to ask. A lady comes back and says "are you the veteran?". I say yes. I can show ID. She throws her hands in the air and says "Fine. I don't care. Come in". Now I'm not sure if I've done something wrong but I go in with my son. The cashiers are shaking their heads at me. When we go to check out my son is in front of me and has shampoo. The cashier yells out to the other cashiers "I guess we had a hair emergency", and they all laugh at us. I say he is with me. When I pay I said to her "everywhere I have ever been, military veterans are considered first responders. If I had been asked to leave I would have. I didn't push my way in or fight, I was just asked if I was a first responder and I said I was a military veteran. I don't know why I am being treated like this". She says it's not you. Ucluelet Coop is most often a great place to shop. However I have noticed a downturn in the Deli Dept. Quality and selection has gone downhill lately. Prices crossed out with a marker and increased price written in??? Think they could at least generate a new tag to reflect unrealistic price increases. Quality is questionable, using near dated products? Stay clear of the Deli until things get fixed. No complaint with the staff, still friendly, but strained. Horrible experience at self checkout tonight. The young boy employee working on self checkout to assist customers yelled profanity at us simply due to asking for assistance. I highly recommend not using self checkout if you do not want to be verbally abused by the young staff member. I really hope this store will reevaluate what kind of a staff member they should put on self check out to help assist customers in the future so others can have a peaceful shopping experience and not experience verbal abuse from an...
