Complaint Regarding the Tiffin Cheese-Themed Buffet
Discrepancy Between Expectations and Reality According to the 4-page menu provided by Grand Hyatt, 11 cheese-based desserts were clearly listed. Therefore, we specifically gathered a group of 8 people to dine on March 29, 2025. Actual Situation: From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the dessert section never featured the cheese cakes, tiramisu, or other items stated in the menu (evidence supported by video and photos). We were only informed that "tiramisu ice cream" was available. My friends and I went specifically for the cheese desserts, yet throughout the 3-hour dining period, none of us encountered any of the 11 cheese desserts listed. Even if they were supposedly on rotation, the frequency was unreasonably lowādoesnāt that make sense?
Contradictory Responses from the Hotel Statement by Mr. Chan, Assistant Director of F&B: Claimed desserts were served on a "rotation" basis and might have been missed due to replenishment delays. Insisted that "some of the 130 guests must have had them," yet failed to provide any rotation records or actual quantities served that night. Response from waiter/waitress: Directly stated that "those items were not served that night," contradicting managementās explanation.
Service and Compensation Issues Multiple inquiries to waiters went unresolved due to understaffing, leaving the issue unaddressed. Mr. Chan offered to "2-person afternoon tea to a 4-person afternoon tea" as compensation but failed to address the core issues: Question 1: If desserts were indeed on rotation, why did waiters confirm twice that "they were available the previous two nights but not tonightāonly tiramisu ice cream was served" Question 2: The conflicting statements between staff and management indicate that the latter was making excuses with false claims! Inappropriate Remarks: Mr. Chan retorted, "Have you ever eaten at a buffet before?" dismissing our legitimate concerns and speaking rudely to guests.
Discrediting Staff to Evade Responsibility Mr. Chan repeatedly claimed that the waitersā responses were due to them being "not well trained", attempting to shift blame onto employees rather than acknowledging the hotelās failure to deliver promised menu items.
We demand Grand Hyatt Hong Kong: ā A sincere apology for the unfulfilled menu promises, contradictory explanations, and Mr. Chanās unprofessional remarks. ā Transparent clarification on whether the desserts were truly rotated or simply unavailable, with documented evidence (e.g., kitchen logs). ā Appropriate compensation that reflects the disappointment and inconvenience caused to our group.
This is not just about missing dessertsāitās about false advertising, poor management, and unacceptable...

While reserving the table at Grand Hyatt, I was in a dilemma - to book the buffet at Tiffin (mezzanine floor) OR The Grill buffet (poolside at 11th floor)..... coz both seemed so enticing! š.....finally, I reserved BOTH and decided to pick one at the LAST minute. After reaching the Grand Hyatt, I took a chance.....just tossed a coin and went to Tiffin. In hindsight, a great decision !!šš»šš»
The FOUR highlights of Tiffin were:
FRENCH MARTINI was excellent and well presented. Just with the first sip, I knew that this buffet place does all of its cocktails really well! š Iāve found that many high quality buffet places are sometimes a bit lacking when it comes to their Cocktails (perhaps because the focus is entirely on food!) No such problems at Tiffin though!
EXCELLENT SORBETš- - the Madagascar Vanilla Sorbet is āto die forā. š¤©I could go back just for this one. The Coconut Sorbet is also good.
a huge variety of FOOD CHOICES (I couldnāt even try all the choices... which is QUITE UNLIKE ME!)š¬
A SUPER TALENTED PIANO PLAYER- he just kept playinā ....like he was a machine or something!! š¶ š
Side note- my HSBC Platinum Credit card helped me get a 10% discount. While asking for bill, I asked if any credit card offers are available....words of wisdom:āļø
FOOD- There were a lot of food choices and Iām still reserving judgement on some of them coz I couldnāt try all of them. The food I loved - STEAK & KIDNEY PIE; CRAB QUICHE; Salads, a decent THAI stationš (loved those Thai curries); and a decent INDIAN station (Lamb curry was a clear STANDOUT)š STEAK & KIDNEY PIE can have a slightly pungent flavor (which I liked), so maybe itās not for everybody. Full marks from me though!š On the INDIAN STATION- the Lamb curry was excellent as the meat would literally melt in the mouth.... not extremely spicy either. So it was perfect š¤©The THAI fish curry was also excellent. One thing MISSING was the variety in seafood- lobster, oysters were not there, which are fast becoming a standard part of all high-end buffets these days. But I guess, ya canāt have it all in life!š¤
DIGESTIF - located at the last page of the drinks menu, these liqueurs have amazing quality of digesting your food in minutes š±no matter how much you ate!! I took the CALVADOS 1991 and .... it gave me a lot of relief because I was literally full with food up to...

First of all, I love the fact that thereās no Chinese dishes or other non-western dishes at the dinner buffet. Those Asian dishes are the ones that I always avoid at any buffet. So I donāt I donāt feel like I missed out anything. Love the fresh oyster. Although they are really small, they are fair fresh. Love that their staff open the oysters on the spot and refills are pretty fast. The place is also not overly crowded, so thereās no need to fight for the food. Thereās no limit on how many fish oysters you can take each time. The homemade smoked salmon are amazing. Not overly oily and definitely not dry. Their salads are fresh and the cheese are good. Their beef Wellington is a little bit salty for my taste. Love the foie gras. Not overly seared. Just cooked right. Very juicy and thick. I love how the Apple or pair that they paired with complement the foie gras. The toast it is on itās very light and fluffy. Making it a sin to just eat the foie gras and not the bread. They also served the fight onion rings and fish. Both deep fried just right. The batter is not too thick. Didnāt like that desserts though. All the cakes in the fridge tasted the same. The texture was not good. They have a different exterior, but the taste is similar which is mixed berries and chocolate. They have quite a wide selection of ice cream, which is good.
For the breakfast buffet, they serve the same items as a grande cafƩ. The food was good, service is great. A great way to start today.
For the afternoon tea set, it comes in a really cute three layer box. The savory layer is the best. Just like the desserts at the buffet, not a fan of...
