The Macau Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society is the oldest charity in Macau, beginning in 1892 and serving from this building just off Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro since 1924. From this premise, the charity served the public, mostly as a health and medicine clinic for many decades.
In 2012, the building was reopened to the public as the Tung Sin Tong Historical Archive Exhibition Hall (free entry). Now you visit and learn about this charity's long history of service in Macau via a video program in Cantonese (English caption) as well as 5 touch-screen multimedia monitors providing visitors an interactive means towards learning about the charity and building's past.
You can also see a few interesting items like the Porcelain Photo Display, the Confucius Shrine and the longest couplet in Macau (circa 1895) in the small courtyard. The building itself remains mostly in its original state, making it very interesting to look at. Here you can see 1920s Shanghai plaster columns, Chinese style hexagonal tiles and lovely Art Deco style window panes within the building as well as traditional European exterior and facade and classic Portuguese style pastel colour, which is commonly seen in Macau.
