This is a hard one to review because I actually quite enjoyed my stay here. However. There seemed to be no real system for check-in and check-out which led to each guest being given slightly differing information about the hostel and not necessarily more than one key - a necessity to get through the 'front door', as well as into your room. Some people also left without paying, although I'm sure this wasn't always on purpose. ||For some reason the kitchen - which doubled as the owner's wardrobe - was locked at night. This meant no access to drinking water. It also meant that your timings for breakfast (not provided) were hinged around the owner's waking hours which was a little frustrating and weird. ||There were two main bathrooms for use although one was so small you needed to pretty much climb over the toilet to get to the shower. The other was more like wet room so the floor always seemed dirty. ||This may well have been the smallest room I slept in during my time in Colombia - a six-bed dorm with such low bunks that it was impossible to sit up in bed. There was the standard plastic mattress cover and clean sheets, with blankets for the colder nights. ||On the plus side, the owner, Roberto, is a real character. He's obviously a well-meaning chap and tries really hard to make it a pleasant stay for each and every person. He seems to really enjoy the company of people and will sit and chat away (mainly in Spanish). He grows coffee and various fruits on site and is happy to share these with guests. There is always a hot pot of the black stuff available to drink. ||In regards to local activities there is plenty of verbal information available. The hostel is far enough from the plaza to not be too noisy with people and bars, but it is on a main thoroughfare so there is quite a steady stream of traffic. It's very well-located to walk to and from the coffee plantations. Wifi works well enough for a small village. ||To support local people and local business I'd say to stay here. It's family-run rather than commercial and you really feel the difference in attitude. Just be warned that it's not a 4-star...
Read moreI didn't expect that this place will be some 5* place but the room that we got was more like 1*. It was a 6 bed shared room, where thankfully it was only 4 of us staying in. This room doesn't have any window and the air in the room was horrible. Room was dirty and it seemed like it was not cleaned for a few weeks already. Our toilet was blocked and when you've opened the cover of the toilet all the human liquids and other stuff were inside. We told the guy, that toilet doesn't flush, we sent them a msg but no luck. Bathroom was so small that it was a challenge to take a shower there. Linens on the bed didn't look fresh, it was more like someone already spend a night on it. Reception staff was not very helpful. Despite all that, they do have a good WiFi and location is good as well. I would say do not consider booking a shared room, private rooms looked much nicer. They are advertising fresh breakfast, which we...
