Pierre Hermé — Local services in Paris

This afternoon around 5:30 p.m., at your Montmartre store on 27 Rue des Abbesses, a male staff member greeted us with “Bonjour.” I responded by telling him what I wanted to order, but he gave me a visibly unpleasant look and said, “I was just saying hello.”

We had been out all day, tired, and simply wanted to enjoy some dessert. His attitude was unnecessarily rude and made us feel very unwelcome. Just because a customer doesn’t return a greeting doesn’t justify such an unfriendly reaction. This is not how someone working in customer service should behave.

His cold expression and poor attitude completely ruined our experience. If someone cannot treat customers with basic respect, they should not be in this line of work. We came for dessert, not to be judged or scolded.

I clearly asked for the Eiffel Tower tin with my macarons, pointed at it, and repeated myself. The staff packed the wrong tin without confirming, and I only discovered after leaving the shop. When I went back (sealed box, receipt in hand), they refused to exchange it, saying it was too late once I had stepped outside.

The worst part? The tin was not a free gift — I paid for it. I wasn’t asking to change the macarons, only the box. How difficult could that be? I'm a big fan of Monsieur Hermé, and I try to stop at every store on my way while in Paris. This one is a little different from the rest of them, no pastries, just macaroons, chocolate, and ice cream. Very cool entrance to the store, if only for that it's worth a visit.
