Read moreThe yukatas were very beautiful, but ultimately it's a tourist trap. When we arrived she showed us the shop's collection of yukatas, some were 6000¥ and others 5000¥. When I asked if the hair styling was included she said yes, and we paid the total beforehand. We would have had to pay 11000¥ but she said she would do 10000¥ for us which sounded like a nice gesture to us. The clothing process started: the shop is very small and the owner does everything alone, so if there are more customers it gets hectic and she might ask you to help her, which is totally fine, but you end up waiting quite a lot. Once we were dressed she handed us a menu to choose our hairstyles from and that's when she informed us that it would cost us 1000-2000¥ more to get our hair done, despite what we had discussed before. I guess there had been a miscommunication. We chose this rental because we needed to return our yukatas in the late evening, and it says on the website and on google that this place stays open until 10pm. However, when we let her know that we would return it at that time, she told us that we would have to pay more since it was a festival night and also 1000¥ for each hour we would stay out after 8pm. None of this was disclosed before. Then she informed us that what we had paid at the start was a deposit, not the actual price of the chosen yukatas. Some more money was added to the total, then taxes. Essentially, she was never clear with the prices and in that moment she put us in a difficult position as we felt like she was scamming us. By the end of it all we agreed that we would bring back our yukatas before 10pm and she told us that she might not be there, but we could still enter, leave them at the shop and take our stuff back. What really happened is that when we got back the shop was closed, our stuff was left outside the door along with other people's, completely unguarded. There was a "returning area" clothing rack and we had to change on the stairs with other people who had the same return time as us. It was quite awkward and everyone was disappointed. We tried to not let this affect our night out but we really felt like we were being scammed for a service that does not even compare to others we have tried in Japan. We're really sorry and surprised this happened, considering how good the...
Read moreI GOT SCAMMED! I came in asking two times if the price for the kimono was 5000yen including taxes the seller said yes. Then after trying it on she charged us 6000 yen AND taxes. After telling the seller that it's not okay and we feel betrayed, she became HYSTERICAL and threw a tantrum. That is because she realized we are not easy to scam. And being hysterical was her next scam strategy. We were so confused. Also a lot of hidden costs and a surcharge for credit card. You also have to write a good review on google infront of the seller.
Follow up to the owners response:
Honestly, just from the immature message written by the owner, I would already advise everyone not to go there. First of all, what does my nationality have to do with any of this?
We did not bargain the price. We agreed to pay exactly what the lady initially told us — a price she latter confirmed twice and still overcharged us after.
It was very weird that after we pointed out that the owner told us one price (5000 yen) and then charged a different one (6000 yen), she immediately pulled out camera footage. I have never been in a store where a worker does that — it honestly made me think this kind of situation must happen a lot if pulling out camera footage is her first reaction.
The footage didn’t even show what she claimed; the angle made it impossible to see anything clearly. When we calmly pointed this out, she started to get frustrated and eventually became hysterical once she realized we were not easy to scam. The entire interaction was extremely unprofessional. This made me realized that we are really getting scammed bc who gets frustrated like this if they know they are in the right.
Looking at other one-star reviews, it seems that similar experiences with overcharging or inconsistent pricing have happened to others.
And yes maybe you should let people pay first before providing services, at least it would be more difficult to scam tourists.
I believe people deserve a true picture of this business. Unfortunately, the owner can’t take criticism without resorting to insults. Please think twice before going there — the way she reacted was manipulative, hysterical, and frankly...
