Ramen Watanabe is legit. Initially, we were a bit wary that we didn't want to grab a ramen bowl near Senso-ji, the ultimate tourist spot, in fear that we overpay for mediocre ramen. Again, it is easier to fool tourists than locals. So after passing by a few shops that came across as such, we ran into Watanabe where it really is just down-to-earth, very functional, ramen-ya.
They serve you from the bar, you pre-pay at the single kiosk, and you sit on this small stool and slurp on your goodness. We had the WHITE (some type of meat stock) and the RED (miso). Both were phenomenal. From the moment you take in one spoonful of the soup, your heart rests in ease. You know you're at a legit place. You know they take pride in serving you a great bowl of ramen.
Ramen Watanabe, despite being near such a tourist magnet, is solid. It is frequented by locals. Even at off hours, we barely got a seat. But that's what it is all about. If you're a Seno-ji tourist, and you're seeking for a no frills ramen place, Watanabe is it. Just be aware not to go there in large parties cause again, it is a single ramen bar island with perhaps 16...

You will have to order your Ramen in atraditional method of ordering* through a vending machine, adding a touch of authenticity to your meal. While the machine is in Japanese, the staff is always more than happy to assist, whether it’s helping with your order or exchanging large bills for payment.
The flavorful, rich, and perfectly ramen can be complemented by a cold beer. If you’re sensitive to spice, simply order for the lower spice level. The service is quick and efficient; our ramen arrived in just 10-12 minutes, served piping hot.
Overall, Ram Watanabe is a perfect place to eat ramen in Tokyo for anyone craving authentic ramen in a friendly and comfortable setting. A perfect spot for both newcomers and seasoned...
Read moreThe dining experience wasn’t enjoyable. This was the first time I got knocked on the toilet door by a restaurant staff (when I was in the toilet helping my boy whom took a little longer than usual to pass motion). My wife also had a bad encounter. She was told by the staff to ask me to come out of the toilet, to keep the packet drinks which we had brought into the restaurant. The staff said we couldn’t bring in our packet drinks to dispose there. Also my wife just placed the packet of mochi we bought nearby out of convenience on the dining counter seating table and the staff told her rudely to keep and not consume in the premises, without even asking if we were gonna consume it. One commendable effort though was a male staff whom came out frm the kitchen and asked if my boy’s ramen wanted spicy or not. Other than that the ramen we...
