Cocomo kimono was the highlight of our trip. There's a wide variety of kimono styles to choose from and we went with the princess package and Victorian style. We stood out and had a lot of compliments from strangers which was really nice. The staff was very kind, energetic and made the experience much better. We paid around $500 for the whole thing which included hair, accessories, a professional photographer and both sets. There are more economic options to pick but I highly recommend the photographer, all prices are on their website and I have recommended cocomo to friends and family. This experience was the highlight of the trip and it created amazing photos for our 10 year anniversary. When we come back to Japan, we will definitely come see cocomo again.
Also: there's two change rooms so there's plenty of private space to change.
Also: I recommend bringing your own boots or going with the sandals, there's a lot of boots to pick from but some of them have wear and tear.
The whole experience: you will change and will be given a bag to put your stuff in or you can use their lockers. They give you a purse/satchel so you have a place for your wallet. After choosing a kimono, accessories, shoes, and a hairstyle, they will also do your makeup if you choose. After you're ready to go, you can choose to have the photographer for an hour or 30 minutes, I really recommend the photographer as they will take you around the city and bring you to some beautiful spots for photos. Once you're done they set you loose and you have until late evening to walk around in your kimonos although you can always come early. I recommend making an early appointment so you can take photos in the day time. There are tourists and locals wearing kimonos in the area so you won't feel out of place....
Read moreI went there a bit ago and have been pondering whether to review it, as I wish I could rate this place higher. For the kimono and outfit itself, it’s 5 stars. I got the Victorian package and achieved the sort of gothic kimono look I really wanted that other rental places wouldn’t be able to give me. If you are after the unique sort of the look they can provide with a few of their top-price packages, I would go for it. However, this recommendation comes with some caveats. The places feels extremely cramped and understaffed. Once it gets busy this is hard to ignore. Unlike other rental places they also have you assemble your outfit piece by piece, dressing you as you go along. This can lead to waiting what can feel like 10 minutes in between each choice they have you make while you try to hopelessly get a staff member’s attention so you can get to the next part of the process. The kimonos themselves seem well-cared for, but I can’t say the same of the other accessories. The hand bags and shoes in particular seemed beaten to hell, many boots in particular seem to have chunks of their outer shells peeling off or missing. If you can bring your own shoes you really should. Considering the price I was paying for my rental, I think complaining about damaged accessories is extremely reasonable even if the kimono itself was fine. As a final nitpick, the undergarment layer they use is pink (not white like most other rental shops). They told me it would be fine when I expressed concern it would clash with my gothic style outfit. However, my friend who was with me the whole day did confirm it was quite noticeable whenever you could see the backs of my sleeves. A very minor annoyance, but again, for the price they’re asking I think they could do better at ensuring a seamless...
Read moreReally friendly, the ladies hype you up which is cute. My dress (princess style) caught so much attention at the temples, it’s a nice variation of the traditional kimono. My hairstyling was quick and so good - really completed the outfit.
Some dresses and accessories could do with a refresh, as some are getting worn down, not too noticeable but my bag handles had lace unravelling.
One thing to point out is that you’ll be standing a lot during the changing process - if there’s multiple people that need dressing, you’ll be standing around waiting a lot as the place is small and there aren’t any chairs. There is one changing closet you can use but also be prepared to change in front of everyone (there is no gender separation). They’ll try to put a robe on you to help you change though.
Overall I loved it, one of the best experiences I’ve had in Tokyo and 100% worth it. I would love to try another style next time as they have a big range of styles compared to other...
