My Japanese friend made a reservation and confirmed that I would receive the coupon price. However, upon arrival, I encountered a language barrier, as no one could speak English. After using Google Translate, the stylist only trimmed my hair instead of providing the design I requested, while an assistant handled the color and treatment.

To my shock, I was charged a higher “foreigner price” that was never disclosed to me. My friend tried to discuss this with the staff, but they were uncooperative and dismissive. This experience felt like a scam, and I am appalled that such discriminatory practices exist in Japan. They seems pretend that they Don’t understand what I’m saying. After researching for salons in Tokyo that are solid and have someone who is skilled and can communicate in English, I booked with Mioko and I am impressed with her service! I came almost an hour earlier than my appointment time and she accommodated me within 5 minutes of arrival. Mioko recommended a digital perm because she noted my hair wasn't in the best condition for a cold perm. Additionally, I asked what length to cut my bangs and she gave me tips of the style that would suit my face shape. I realize that my perm would only last about 3-5 months since it's a looser curl, but I should've shown a curlier hairstyle if I wanted it to last longer. Next time I get to visit Japan, I hope to get my hair done here...
