The Helicopter Line, Queenstown — Local services in South Island

Booked a short, last minute 'pilot special' flight, explained we only had 1 day. Despite seeing several of their helicopters going over, we were kept waiting and delayed in an obvious and clumsy attempt to maximise profit by hoping to get more passengers under the convenient excuse of 'weather'. (See photos taken at same spot, early afternoon shortly after giving up). Not even asked if any 'lesser' (without landing perhaps) service would be acceptable (it would have).

No payment was taken and I agree that a pilot must have final say, I have no argument with this policy.

However, it became increasingly clear that the young lady in customer service was seemingly coached to use whatever means to not let one up without a full compliment as a matter of policy, but not sufficiently trained not to let the client think this was the case, let alone actually listen to the client's circumstances and act accordingly, even if that means the sale is lost. For now.

Wasted a large portion of our very valuable time stringing us along as weather improved and we ran out of time to rebook elsewhere.

Not impressed at all (as one thinks would be obvious, given the time taken to write this review).

Really disappointing how many companies are moving this way in an attempt to glean more out of customers after Covid.

It may have saved them a few bucks, but at what cost? Have my kids arriving for a holiday at Xmas and will definitely avoid any helicopter line services in any future adventures.

Am seeing more and more of this type of commercial behaviour and it is very short sighted and very counter-productive.

Will await the inevitable defensive response. Don't like making these complaints as otherwise had a great time and felt very welcome...

I loved how each group had a turn to nominate someone to sit up front going to and back, further enhancing the excitement and immersive nature of the flight.

I cannot stress enough how amazing this experience was. The professionalism and expertise of the pilot made the entire journey seamless and safe. It's clear that the team at NZ Helicopters prioritizes customer satisfaction and creating moments that will be forever etched in our memories.

Last week my husband and i flew with this company to Milford Sound and back! We hadn't really planned to heli in.. totally spare of the moment decision and later we were freaking out at the cost but honestly it was worth EVERY CENT!!!! (They gave us a good discount too!!) We had the the most incredible time! Ben was our pilot and a real laugh - plenty of banter, plus we shared the trip with 2 locals (kinda- from Italy and USA) and the experience exceeded our expectations!! The scenery was stunning and Ben was excellent sharing his knowledge of the area! We took the cruise at Milford and afterwards we were sooo hungry Ben took us to the cafe to refuel!! Nothing was a problem for him and it was nice not to feel rushed or on a tight schedule! On the return trip we touched down at Lake Erskine … truly spectacular!! We felt like we had dropped into another world!! We stayed there for what seemed like ages… taking pics and then Ben told us to hold on tight as he flew off the cliff!! Totally fun and we felt soo grateful to be sharing the trip with these guys! If you get the chance, we thoroughly recommend this trip!! Just do it…. as there is nothing like it!!
